About the Pony Merchandise Thread

Hullo everypony!

 

As some of you may know, we had a Pony Merchandise thread dedicated to showing off your current and most recent findings/purchases of My Little Pony toys, clothes, books, DVDs, food, etc. This thread was originally created because there was no other thread or sub-forum dedicated to Pony Merchandise. However, with the creation of the new sub-forum, it was decided by the staff that the original thread was no longer needed, so they locked it.

 

I was happy when the sub-forum began because it offered a place where we could start multiple topics about pony toys and shirts, and perhaps start our own threads about our personal collections. But at the same time, I enjoyed the old Pony Merchandise thread because it was a good general place to see new products that people purchased or had seen at the store that they just wanted to share for that moment that don't necessarily provide enough meat for a separate thread.

 

The moderators came to a decision to close the thread because, with the new sub-forum, it was seen as unnecessary to keep. Also, having such a large thread discourages people from reading through the whole thing and to just skip to the end, thus leaving a lot of clutter in the thread that will most likely never be read by other users by the time the content gets old and pushed back.

 

I am used to forums where they allow large threads like that to exist, so large threads have never bothered me. In fact, if I'm ever bored enough, I have gone through large threads, either to find something that I remembered was posted there, or for nostalgic reasons. I know these kinds of threads take up space, but I feel like they provide a kind of backbone that many forum communities need in order to keep it going for the long haul.

 

With that being said, I do respect the staff's decisions even when I don't entirely agree with them, so I'm actually making this feedback thread by their suggestion.

 

The question is, would you like to see the general pony merchandise thread make a return in some form, or do you find a general pony merchandise thread to be an unnecessary use of space? Your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

I agree, I liked reading through the large main thread to see what others collected. It saves time instead of people just going through one thread at a time. Plus there was good discussion that involved many people about each others merch.

I know not of the original pony merchandise thread as I didn't get a chance to look at it but I still have something to say about long topics in general.

I think it's a mixed bag, there are both good and bad things about long topics and I think it really depends on two things. the first is what the topic content is but the second and more prominent one is the individual reader and how their feeling at the time. Some people like long topics, some don't, some only go through them when their bored or when it's a topic there really interested in.

 

I see having a subforum makes things more organised, it is easier to find a specific persons work when looking for it as they are all individual topics and also feedback won't get confused and is also more fluent because it is all the one topic talking about the one thing.

I honestly thought the pony merchandise thing was kinda unneeded. I personally wouldn't care if there was a pony merchandise thread or not because I really don't care about looking at what others bought lol. That being said, just because I'm not for it doesn't mean other ponies won't be. But it'd be good to take into consideration, no?

My vote hardly counts as I both don't go into said subforum or topic and never had, and probably never will. But I do believe there is something to be said for your argument about long topics having something special, in general.

Even though I never posted in the pony merchandise thread, I will agree with the mods decision on this, as the thread probably took up a lot of space on the forums, and after a while, it would be deleted anyway.

If the thread were to be revived, it would need to be given a new purpose. Since it was mainly used for posting collections and recent purchases, I'd like to see it return as an official collection and purchase thread. Otherwise, it is unnecessary, and it should stay locked.
