What do you guys think happened to the CMC's friend?

There's a toyline collection set entitled "Cutie Mark Crusaders and Friends"- in this collection, it features Silver Spoon, Diamond Tiara, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo, Cheerilee, Twist(-a-loo), and a pony named Star Dreams who is a blank flank. Unlike the other characters who have appeared in the animated series multiple times, Star Dreams, apparently, has not. (even the less recognized ones, Twist and Cheerilee have had a fair amount of screen time) 

Why do you guys think that Star Dreams is the only one who doesn't appear at all in Friendship is Magic's tv show, if she appears in a "and friends" collection with the CMC? 

My own thoughts to this are, since Star is (headcanon) sister to Sunset Shimmer and Sunburst, Cheerilee saw that Star Dreams had much more potential than most foals in her class, she sent her to study in Sunbutt's school for gifted unicorns, like Sunset Shimmer and Starburst once had. Perhaps this is the reason Star isn't seen in Ponyville at all, or in Cheerilee's schoolhouse, because she was pulled away from her classmates and bound for Canterlot? 

 

​But what do you you guys think? Why hasn't Star Dreams appeared in the show, if she's listed as the CMC's Best friend, in the toyline?

I seem to recall the old 101 Dalmatians animated TV series lauding the adventures of Penny and Patch in their advertisements, though I don't think either of them ever appeared in the show in speaking roles

 

My guess is it was something they'd planned in marketing that they changed their minds about before the show was made.

 

I'd have to read into it a little more before concluding on a headcanon reason, but from a realistic perspective that's likely it.

Because they have lots of characters that aren't in the show but are made up to sell toys. I guess they needed one more figure and thought some random one would be good enough.

There are other characters who have yet to appear in the show so Star Dreams isn't the only one in this boat. Still, it is odd how she hasn't made an appearance, unless she has and we haven't noticed her due to being an incredible background character.

she showed up in a set (Sweet Slumbers) with AppleJack in 2011, the CMC & Friends set in 2013, and again with Rarity and Rainbow Dash in (Spa Pony) set in 2014. Even if she shows up in the show, she doesn't necessarily have to have a speaking role. But to package her with half of the mane 6 and the cmc. seems like they had planned for her to be a fairly important character, in my opinion. (which is why I reason that her exclusion from the series, as far as we know, was the aformentioned headcanon) Perhaps we will see her, eventually, perhaps not. But I'm holding out hope that she'll be seen in Canterlot, even if in the background for all of 1 second, to confirm my theory that she was taken from her friends in Ponyville to pursue higher education.

I know, Gans, but Dreamydreams is the one I'm more interested in, as far as toyline pony exclusives are concerned. (come on, she's friggin adorable. And what other filly has tri-hued hair?) Odd indeed, assuming that (as far as packaging goes, because I can only make judgements off of them) that she's friends with the cmc and some of the mane 6, she's pretty important in some way. I always try to keep an eye out on the background ponies in every episode, to see if I can spot her, but to no avail (though their designs are quite interesting, as opposed to earlier seasons).
