Upsetting or interesting developments with Changelings

There could be some...Interesting, or unfortunate (depending how you view it) developments in the future with Changelings. Specifically giving Spike, of all characters a Changeling friend, but also with HOW the Changelings were "reformed", by GIVING love.

 

The complication that could present itself is Spike's crush on Rarity, with Thorax around to take notice. What if Thorax notices that Spike's love is unrequited, and takes it upon himself to make his first friend happy the only way he knows how, by changing into Rarity and giving Spike his love by kissing him (unbeknownst to Spike)?

 

There could be many lessons learned from this- from it being unacceptable to make unwanted advances on your friends, to (and I hope this doesn't come to pass) acceptance of LGBT relationships (would just feel shoehorned in a show about FRIENDship. And neither Spike nor Thorax swing that way, anyway)

 

Anywho, could having a Changeling friend make or break Spike's relationship with Rarity? What other complications could come from Thorax being friends with Spike?

Not sure if I am understanding the concern here. I don't exactly see how Thorax could at all make any sort of complication with Spike and rarity, since Spike and Rarity are just friends. I mean, yeah, Spike might still have a crush on Rarity, but we know it doesn't go THAT far.

what I'm saying is Thorax being witness to Spike's puppy dog infatuation and getting rejected by Rarity, then Thorax taking it upon himself to change into Rarity and try to please Spike, himself. Thorax doesn't know that Rarity wants to just be friends. He may see it differently.

I don't know about you, but if I was in Spike's position, It would feel pretty creepy to have one of my best friends shapeshift into my crush and take advantage of my feelings for said crush to consume love.

The only thing about love that I would like to see out of this would be Thorax having a talk with Spike, maybe finally convincing him to confess his feelings for Rarity, the two to have a talk like Dipper and Wendy did in Gravity Falls, and for Spike to finally get over his crush on Rarity.

yeah, it would be creepy,but maybe it could teach Thorax where to draw the line between giving love and giving (though well intentioned) unwanted advances and putting Spike's relationship as friends with Rarity in danger.

I don't think the writers will be able to go that far given that Hasbro probably wouldn't give them the go ahead. Remember that the age dynamic for the show means that certain ideals can't be on display as they would be deemed inappropriate for the intended audience. If anything, Thorax just sees Spike as his first ever friend and will be satisfied with that distinction.

A few comments about this, though I think it is very unlikely to ever happen in the show (except maybe as a one-shot joke) because it causes a lot of problems:

 

1. Yeah it would be creepy but fascinating (so fascinating in fact I started writing a fanfic about this subject right after the initial teasers for it last season and will finish it someday, hopefully before the season 7 premiere. XD ).

 

2. Spike would likely be very uncomfortable with his friend mimicking the pony he loves because he probably feels like they are soulmates and his love for her isn't just a physical attraction that only involves physical acts. He would basically feel like he was cheating on Rarity for becoming romantic (or intimate) with someone who simply looks like her.

 

3. Having said that, I do have to concede that even though he might claim he loves her heart and soul, there's actually not much evidence of that considering he fell in love with Twilight briefly just because her hairstyle changed to Rarity's. Same goes for how he seems to have some kind of thing for Starlight who now sports a similar hairstyle.

 

4. His interest in her has gone from an innocent crush to an unhealthy obsession, evidenced by how he's now including her as some character in his RP games that he can fantasize having a relationship with. Rarity really needs to let him know how she feels about him to help him break out of this obsession and I think having Thorax RP her would just make matters worse.
