"Hearth's Warming Eve" indicates that the legend of Equestria's founding is still intact, and that was supposed to have happened prior to Celestia and Luna taking responsibility for the cycles of the sun and moon, respectively. According to "The Return of Harmony", there was a period during which Discord was loose, only to be sealed away by Celestia and Luna. Then Luna became Night Mare Moon shortly thereafter (probably during the peace which followed Discord's defeat) and was subsequently banished by Celestia. So yes, ~2000 years sounds about right. NavelColt 22,882 May 17, 2012 Share May 17, 2012 neither of them had their ethereal manes a thousand years back according to the visuals in the story-book intro (lol pink hair Celestia), and looking at how young Luna was when she emerged from being MMN at the end of episode 2, she was a fillie/the Mane 6 age looking, I'm guessing Celestia was that young/small a thousand years ago along with her. Because Luna was basically time-capsuled inside the moon, not aging, so when she finally emerged, she was still the age she was when banished. Age now is adult-ish. 1000 years ago was the same age as Twilight and friends. Inkfeather 597 May 17, 2012 Share May 17, 2012 There's no limit to the range of guesses to their actual age, all we know from the show is that Luna was on the moon for a thouand years, meaning that Celestia would at least have to have been mature enough to make the decision of banishing her, we also know that they handled Discord before Luna was banished, which could easily add another 500 years to the ones we know of. If you would have to set an age, it would be at the minimum of 2000 years for Celestia and maybe 1750 for Luna or thereabout acording to the fact that she IS her littlesister. But what do we know? They could be as old as the world itself and they could just as well not be. Maybe they were mortal and born during that time period, but when they found that they embodied the elements of harmony and used them to defeat discord, they were granted immortality and the burden of raising the sun and the moon. So it would depend on how long ago discord was first sealed away, and how old they were at the time. Or they're immortal godesses and always have been, but then where were they before Discord ruled? But I think that the two were both born at the same time, but while Luna was on the moon, she didn't age, which is why she is much younger than Celestia in Episode 2. That's....odd. Well they're Alicorns, a royal race among the ponies.
