Why Are You Pre-ordering Movie Tickets?

Not trying to sound condescending with that question. Just for curiosity's sake, I'm just noticing a lot of mentions of pre-ordering tickets like there's a fear in it being sold out. Do the theaters around you sell out on movies that quickly. I was just planning on going at 9:30 Friday night and buying the ticket there. Besides I don't think I've ever seen an animated film sell out in my area. Harry Potter or Star Wars, yes, but animated, never, I'm talking going to see Inside Out or Zootopia opening weekend with plenty of seats and getting the tickets that day. Maybe my town is small enough (although the price is still $13.50 a ticket). Or is this just to skip the ticket window encounter?

The theater I am going to (Emagine) has specific seats given out, you can't just choose where to sit unless you order tickets online. It also makes it easier for me to just walk in, show my 4 tickets on one sheet of paper, and go into the movie.

I don't fear sell outs. I get rewards for early purchases (biggest reason) and it's more convenient than waiting at a ticket line. Also, it shows up in early tracking data which can have an influence in a few peripheral things.

I would pre-order my tickets but as I'm going with a group of friends and fellow Bronies, it'll be difficult for all of us to pre-order online and ensure we're all in the same seats. Thank god the one cinema in my area that hosts the film has ticket machines with (as far as I'm aware) no seat reservations... should make the process easy to manage.

My area is doing a special give away. Patrons get a poster and a toy.

I don't need to preorder. The theaters in my area never sell out and we've seen stuff on opening day. Besides, I don't think there's as much public interest in my area.

My tickets will be waiting at the box office window for pick up when I arrive on Friday night with my niece, so technically yeah. I already have. Mostly just to get it out of the way. Also because we want to arrive early in case certain friends decide to show up (but I'm not counting on it because they're fairly indecisive).
