I love doom.

Remember buying the XBLA version and loving it even so many years after the fact.

I plan on grabbing the HD resurrection pack soon to play through them all.

Also I gotta say I actually like the Doom Movie.

I mean it's nothing amazing, but I honestly have to say that it was enjoyable for me.

It was just so chessey it worked imo. Though I would still love to see a real Doom movie done.

Doom. The name itself is fantastic. Funny I came across this, just thought about getting Doom 3 RoE, I hope its worth it, cause the others definitely wouldn't let me down. My favorite would have to be the 3rd, I deeply love the classic art style of the 1 and 2, but in this generation, everything is based on the graphics or the multiplayer, sad really.

So your favorite is Doom 3 because of the emphasis this generation on graphics or because you like it the most? I'm hoping the latter here, unless graphics are truly that important to you, in which case that's absolutely fine too.

Doom 3 multiplayer is honestly nothing to speak of, though. A couple of standard modes and an initially 4 player limit was it all it had to offer. Killing the lights and sending everyone into a panic on that one level was pretty neat but still a far cry from the outright mayhem of D1/D2 deathmatch.

I suppose I hadn't worded myself right. Graphics don't bother me whatsoever, I tend to still find pixelated games such as Doom, or relating popularity, Duke Nukem 3D thrilling, and a change of pace, which adds to my fact that this generation is infatuated on   graphics and multiplayer, such as Battlefield and Call of duty, on the other hand, Doom 3 has its differentials with the ones before. When have you seen a pixelated game raise charts like those in 2013-2014? I'm not in anyway saying I hated 1 and 2, I'm just put in this era where thats all that matters, kids today look at a game like this in disgust. I may not be the greatest with words, but i'm positive this is what I was referring.

Right on, I hear what you're saying.

In an era where graphics are all that matters, I'm afraid Call of Duty still falls a bit short. We've replaced pixelated walls with blurry ones. Progress, I tell you.

The map where you fight 2 hell knights before jumping off the star shaped room poses the most painful for me as you walk up the steps and you get transportedbinto a very dark room where countless enemies ambush you and you cant get away or kill em all without being killed first the game is THE ultimate fps legendand I have the bfg edition as well as the ps1 game. This game created a monster of follow ups like quake and then the countless that followed.

Well, progress is very gradual then :) . I'm glad that you understood what I meant, I still wish more pixel games were made, not like those pixel indie games, like shooters and such.

ya cant tell me the fight between karl and the rock after the giant dog thing wasnt awsome even the music escalated it to a high standard listening to the music dull down when they empted the guns just to go into the ball busting rock battle music made it all worth while as the rock and karl grew more aggresive. But yeah the rest was cheesy but nice.

I find myself repeating this a lot to others, but I feel like people who are a fan of old school FPS shouldn't miss out. There's a huge community over at http://www.doomworld.com/ with a ton of great stuff like maps and source ports. They're always coming out with something new and if you have a copy of Doom, the current source ports add a ton of features that give Doom a decidedly more modern feel like engine advancements (jumping, floor-over-floor, high-resolution modes, etc).

They also have an annual "Cacowards" http://www.doomworld.com/cacowards/ which showcases some of the best the community has to offer. You'd be surprised at what can be done with the Doom engine today.

I knew there was a fanbase still, but I never knew what the website was, thanks! Guess this gives me a reason to play some doom then.
