Quinch 1,120 July 5, 2018 Share July 5, 2018 I'd say it would depend on where the battles took place? 1 Current project: The Olden World audiobook What's to stop you?
Here No Longer 5,276 July 6, 2018 Share July 6, 2018 Probably the Romans. Mongols would have a HUGE advantage in terms of mobility and speed, but otherwise it's definitely Romans who would have the advantage. They had ballistae and flaming arrows, both of which could EASILY take down a man on horseback with minimal armor. Not to mention, a Javelin could probably do more damage than the spears used by the Mongols, and the Roman's shields and metal armor would block out most of their sabre and bow attacks, while they'd absolutely wreck through their lightweight armor with their swords and daggers. But, it must also be said that Mongol Mangonels and Trebuchets could break down the walls of their fortifications. But also it must be said that fire arrows would likely burn them up before they'd become a serious threat.
Frostgage 7,975 July 6, 2018 Share July 6, 2018 I don't know enough about the Romans to give a decisive answer but I will say the Mongols were quite impressive (if you want to call it that xD). Despite their naval failures, they were darn near unbeatable on the ground and very clever tacticians 2 Signature by Lacerna | You should fill out my Johari Window. All the cool kids are doing it. I believe That the Mongol archers would outclass the Roman ones Edited July 6, 2018 by woodchunks66 beep beep (formally known as woodchunks66)
Jeric 46,852 July 6, 2018 Share July 6, 2018 I refer you all to John Green for my answer. They're the exception.
Here No Longer 5,276 July 6, 2018 Share July 6, 2018 Just now, woodchunks66 said: I believe That the Mongol archers would outclass the Roman ones True, but the thing there is that Romans were equipped with armor (more particularly the shields and the chest pieces) better at dealing with arrow hits and not to mention that Romans were far more focused on their infantry and their throwing weapons, and therefore were probably better with them than the Mongols were.
Nsxile 27,110 May 20, 2019 Share May 20, 2019 The Romans would be better equipped against the Mongol's archers, so I'd probably say the Romans.
Dreambiscuit 9,901 May 21, 2019 Share May 21, 2019 I'd put my money on the Romans because they have the resources, organization and advanced tactics.
