bigbertha 417 November 4, 2018 Share November 4, 2018 The argument that "Non-Compete Clause" is bad because Rainbow and Applejack act like they did in season 1 is dumb for 2 reasons: 1. No they don't. In season 1, they had a friendly rivalry. Yes they were competitive, but it was obvious that they still liked each other. In "Non-Compete Clause", they act like they hate each other. It seriously seems like they would kill each other for the award. 2. This argument implies that them still having a rivalry would be some kind of character devolution. People don't grow out of these kinds of things, and there's no reason for them to. Friendly rivalries don't hurt anyone and can actually strengthen friendships.
RDDash 19,243 November 4, 2018 Share November 4, 2018 Well, there is competing, I completely get that when it's healthy, but that episode was just completely not logical where Rainbow and AJ had been acting foolish.
JH24 385 November 4, 2018 Share November 4, 2018 The point is more that they went way too far with it. It made a caricature out of their characters. The issue isn't as much (at least for me) RD and Applejack having a rivalry, but doing so not only at the expense of the students but also by endangering them. There was no apology from them and then they kept on going with their competitiveness in a different way
Jeric 46,880 November 4, 2018 Share November 4, 2018 Interesting. Normally I don't see many threads that take the angle that you have. I can infer that You dislike the episode but think that the means and logic of others is flawed. 28 minutes ago, bigbertha said: The argument that "Non-Compete Clause" is bad because Rainbow and Applejack act like they did in season 1 is dumb for 2 reasons: This depends on the specific language used. I can assert that their mutual immaturity felt like a regression to the tone of earlier seasons, and that assertion would be a completely consistent statement.
Thrond 3,271 November 4, 2018 Share November 4, 2018 I've seen people complain about episodes feeling like season 1 or season 2 episodes in the past, but I never really feel that's accurate. There's a certain way that character interactions were handled in those seasons which hasn't been very prevalent past season 4. I don't think people would be complaining if an episode actually felt like season 1 or season 2.
DonMaguz 1,023 November 4, 2018 Share November 4, 2018 My issue with the episode is not regression, but exaggeration. The jealousy AJ showed when Fluttershy got her Teacher of the Month award and the desperation she seemed to have while the trophy was floating by her and Dash have nothing to do with AJ. Dash is all about winning and getting trophies, for her it seems a bit over the top, but for AJ it is completely ridiculous. Then the rest of the episode they had their flaws exaggerated to a cringey level and their common sense nuked to the ground. There is no episode in seasons 1, 2 or 3, where they acted in such an irresponsible manner.
