“Rewrite” an Early Episode for S9

It’s not a secret that the show has gone through some serious changes over the years, like an expanded world, expanded cast of characters, major character developement, improved animation, and a shift in overall tone.

Are there any early episodes or premises (season 1-4) that you think would be improved if it was told in season nine instead, with all of the changes, new characters, and better animation available now?

For me, designing old episodes with new characters would be like wiping my arse with sandpaper, so I'll pass ... Unless I'm compelled. Say, how's your loot in Path of Exile? Any good uniques for a witch? How about some exalts? Wait, is this extortion? Better post something constructive anyway to scrape this sin off my already marred image. The High Templar is watching.

 

You can basically rewrite CMC episodes like Showstoppers for the creature students. They're blank flanks in a way so you can write an episode about how they are trying to figure out what's their "cutie mark" through whatever mundane event the school is organizing. Or you could go off the reservation and convert Family Appreciation Day for Gallus and his griffin "family".  I mean, I get that griffins live in a seinen fantasy, but we should still address the lack of core family. Bonus points if there's a cameo of a grim griffin with a giant sword accompanied by a breezie.

Hard to say since Season 9 hasn't even aired yet and we have no official idea what it's about.

If we're talking about taking an existing episode out of cannon and revamping it for S9, I'd do Canterlot Wedding. Both parts. 

The relationship between Twi and her brother should've been elaborated on more, as was her relationship with Cadence. The anonymous threat to Canterlot should've been elaborated. We still don't know who sent it. Twi's friends and mentor abandoning her after numerous lessons about listening to your friends problems should be completely redone, or at least show it more from their perspective and have them think on it, and the big reveal of Chrysalis and her invasion should be saved for a later episode. Let chrysalis escape before she shows herself, and then we have another episode or two to show the invasion. 

I mean Canterlot wedding isn't bad, but it could be better. 

What should be better is Twilight's Kingdom. A weak sauce season opener with poor pacing. We need to show Twi being tested with the burdens of leadership, reinforcing her friends point on Twi being the sole leader of a nation and not going off on risky adventures. And y'know, an actual antagonist.

Honestly, the only one I can think of is if Tirek in this series was able to turn ponies and other creatures into freakishly powerful monsters that obey only him, like in the first series.  Then have him take over most of Equestria, turning most of the population into monsters, and have the mane six band together with the remaining ponies to resist him.  It would be a season-long premise, but if it's the last season and they're supposed to be pulling out all the stops, then why not?

There aren't really any episode from the first half I'd want to see rewritten, MMDW is the only one I've ever considered, and even then they've somehow managed to make it worse....several times. In fact I think humanity would be better if they never tried it again

In my rather uninformed opinion, if you removed Discord, shifted everything back one season and put him later in the show, it would have made for a better Discord character.

I mean, Discord is supposed to be the immortal, all-powerful lord of chaos. He can remake Equestria in his image with a snap of his fingers. Heck, he basically did on two separate occasions. He routinely performs feats of magic that even the princesses have trouble doing. But the moment there’s another season-ending villain, he’s just a puppet or a side character. I think he would be better if he were more like the Discord in (dare I mention it?) PONY.MOV.
