What would happen if the rainbow of friendship was fired at minor antagonists?

Svengallop, Old Diamond Tiara, Suri Polomare, Spoiled Rich etc. They are not threat to Equestria, buy they surely isn't embracing the magic of friendship and causing disharmony among others.

What would happen if the elements of harmony was shot at them? I know the mane six won't go that far and would try to reconcile first, but just theoretically speaking. Imagine they just happened to be next to the big villains when they are getting shot by the rainbow.

It seems that the elements have three modes of operation - sending to the moon (at least when used by Celestia), turning into stone (Discord, Chrysalis) or removing evil influence (Luna, Stygian, Sunset).

The regular jerks, like Old Diamond Tiara, are not under an evil influence, so they would probably be turned into stone.

When was Chrysalis turned to stone by the Elements?

It's quite possible the rainbow would have no effect. Of course, it fixing their personality flaws is also possible - but it doesn't fix it's users, so I wouldn't bet on it.

Nope, just depowered them. The stoning was a follow-up spell by the repowered Royal Sisters and Discord - one of the reasons it's highly controversial.

So, yea, that's what I get for not having watched that episode yet and just reading about it. 

OK, so I guess the elements then do not remove "evil" influence, but "unnatural" magic - turn Nightmare Moon back to Luna, remove the Pony of Shadows spirit and remove gained powers from Chrysalis and her group. 

The elements could not remove Discord's powers (either because they are his or for some other reason), so they turned him to stone.

Still kinda makes sense. So, for regular jerks it would still be either stone or nothing.

I think stone is just due to Discord's nature being directly opposed to the elements.

Stone and sending to the moon seems more like the Elements of Harmony are just being used as spell boosters to make any spell more powerful.

Perhaps when Celestia used them - but the Mane 6 don't seem to have much of a particular intention in mind, at least against NMM.
