Well as someone who has watched animation aimed at girls more often there is the simple fun factor.

It's like with the original MLP series.  Is it good?  Maybe not, but neither is say the original Transformers😁 which some hold up as being on par with Batman The Animated Series or Gargoyles.

Yes and no in a way. True both are aimed at girls but one is quite a bit more obvious about it.

At least my little pony G2 wasn't all about the ponies dream house, stable, stallions etc.

Yes MLP tales was but we don't talk about that one... Ever XD.

Oh I meant more that MLP G1 is really comparable to the same era's Transformers, but that TF gets more a pass cause it's male oriented.

Don't get me wrong.  Glad that there are girl properties getting effort, just that if one doesn't stick to solely good (unironically) stuff, it doesn't matter what gender the material is for.😅

Kind of, though if I ever had kids I would be careful about what they watched so they didn't get too programmed and keep an open mind.

Alot of movies and series are clearly slanted towards a particular view. Especially the more recent ones.

So, I would try to avoid those ones and go for more neutral less political or "anti 'x' stuff.

That is why I like older cartoons no politics or allegory, etc.

Ehh.  Plenty of stuff are just as preachy back then and heavy handed.  Especially. Super Friends, Static Shock, X-Men TAS, Captain Planet & The Planeteers.

Preachy is not the same as propaganda.

There is A big difference between "let's all be friendly with others", "let's not pollute the planet", etc vs something like"this ideology is good but THAT one is bad and you should hate the one we tell you is bad."

In other words one is more about promoting general good whereas the other is more about directing opinions for or against something more specific.

But all this is  kind of getting off topic and should be brought up in separate subject.

To back to the original topic I'll just leave it at neither movie would catch my real interest.

Barbie has no value to me. The dolls could literally come to life and become sentient and I will still would not care about a movie regarding Barbie.

If you wanna watch be my guest but it means nothing to me.

As for Oppenheimer, no thanks I don't need more nightmares about what the atomic bomb did or what led up it. It's historical no arguments here I just don't need to give myself nightmares about real world deaths.

Either way I'll pass.

  • 2 weeks later...

This is only based on what I've heard, but Oppenheimer doesn't sound like a movie I'd enjoy. Maybe it's better than I think, but it would need to have something that really interests me to keep me from getting bored. That said, Barbie looks very weird but I'm open to watching a silly movie. I would likely choose Barbie, if I could actually overcome the anxiety and apathy that prevents me from going to movie theaters.

Never watched those 2000s movie, but recently watched the specials from the 80s.  First one had Barbie uttering this gem:

"Today is the first day of world peace. If we all want it enough, it won't be the last."

Evidently she agreed with Christopher Reeves speech from Superman IV.😏

Did binge Life in the Dreamhouse this year, as well as The Dreamhouse Adventures shows and movie.  They have a new installment next month, Barbie: A Touch of Magic.

And some od the production team these shows include former Power Rangers crew members Doug Sloan and Ann Austen.

As an update I saw the Barbie movie. I liked it. It’s not what I expected at all.  In my previous post I mentioned wanting to see a more lighthearted movie and while it was lighthearted it definitely had me tearing up at moments. As much as I love Margot Robbie Ryan Gosling absolutely stole the show for me. Him singing Matchbox 20 was a hit to my childhood. I literally used to play with Barbies while listening to that CD that song was off of. His solo song I’m just Ken is still stuck in my head. I’m also praying this movie brings in a new age of Indigo Girls fans because, they are amazing and I loved them growing up as well. I know they went about it in a comical way but I felt myself feeling more bad for Ken than Barbie. I know what they were trying to do and all of that but I just left that movie with a love for Ken that I never had. I’d watch it again but because I loved Ken and not so much because of Barbie.

That being said it doesn’t hold a candle to the amazingly well done animated Barbie movies. I still rewatch those to this day.
