My problem with G5.

G5 doesn't care at ALL about G4, there is little to no continuity. Take the dragons for example, why did they make them pony-dragon hybrids? 

It makes no sense, if they wanted to keep continuity with G4 they should've just kept everything as is. It feels like the new writers know next to nothing about G4 and it shows.

G5 is simply a mess, and I'm having a hard time enjoying it because of that.

I know this isn't an unpopular opinion, I just wanted to give my two cents on the issue.

(...Also Sunny is a boring protagonist.)

I completely agree. They only added continuity because G4 was the only generation to be earth-shatteringly popular.

No other generation will ever reach the heights G4 did and Hasbro is trying to keep that train going.

I thought it was kinda weird that G5 started with the earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns hating each other when the whole point of the last season of G4 was about accepting differences and having a whole school where every type of creature got along. I get that they eventually worked things out in G5 between each creature and species, but it feels like the writers just didn't care about what came prior. Like it seems as if Equestria is in a constant state of a few years of hate, followed by a few years of harmony, followed by hate again, etc. Doesn't matter what Twi did, G5 still showed us harmony didn't win after her reign (Or for a little while anyway.) Does sunny have the same fate for G6 if/when Hasbro decides to make it?

I think it's kinda the opposite. The new show was a homage to G4 and the writers clearly learned a lot from G4.

However, while G5's goals were laudable and the chars are very strong for pony overall and compare well with G4, it was never likely that the world-building would live up to G4 - FiM itself had no business being a living pony world like Star Trek or something  and yet its inspired writers achieved that and started a silly fandom.

That's such a excuse XD that I have to agree with, because it could be what they are trying to reach for in the next TyT episodes.

And well, I already said my opinions on it, I don't care about the connections with G4, I do like the idea of making it a sequel to a previous Generation, but the way they did it just wasn't that impressive for me, but I understand why these connections turned out the way we saw, while they tried to make it connected to G4, at the same time they have to deal with the contract with Discovery Family, and DF still owns a lot of content from G4, so there was little that G5 could use from that gen, and I know they tried to make everything they could, and I think it was a fun experience, but the fact that all of those were forgotten after the Opaline arc just tells me that they can't do much. Maybe if it wasn't for the contract we could see something really amazing, or maybe Hasbro would've just decided to reboot G4, who knows, I don't think the connections with G4 ruined G5, but I do think they weren't necessary, if you swap Twilight and Spike with a unamed Alicorn Princess and her Dragon friend from the past, things would've played out exactly the same, so yeah, it was clearly made to catch the attention of old fans as well

Well... I obviously can't tell you what to like or not, and I know there were MANY problems in production to that made a mess of things. The fact that ponies of the G5 have only one cutie mark for rendering problems(or tu cut rendering time for a rushed production) didn't gave a good impression to the fans. 

But to claim that there is no continuity? I don't think so. 

Let's remember that it was G.M. Barrow who made the Screenplay for the Movie, and she developed the concept of Make your Mark as series. She was also an official writer in the G4 and she wrote most of the "chapter" books for Friendship is Magic (Where she enjoyed including some of the fans trends and characters. )

I admit there is a visual disconnect from Friendship is magic, But I see some strong connections story wise. 

Let me ask you a question... What if those "inconsistencies" where intentional? What if there is a reason to be explored in why the dragons look like that and have cutie marks? 

Please don't suffer G5. Its really interesting.

I really enjoyed G4 it's what got me into MLP in the first place. I tried watching G5 and while they do have 3D and it looks good, I don't know I just got bored and stopped watching. There's something missing in it that G4 had I feel like. I don't really mind about there being no continuity but I don't know it just not as interesting or fun to watch as G4.

Well you're correct because G5 indeed just doesn't feel like G4, G5 is G5 and not G4, and I don't think it ever even tried to be like G4, it's something different just as G4 itself wasn't like G1 or G3

I personally honestly don't even believe that much on the hate G5 gets, for me, people who like G4 (not everyone) actually aren't even interested in G5 at all, they aren't watching it, just like you (and me), what made these people get into MLP was G4, G5 was made with a different mind for a generation of kids who are living in a world that isn't the same from 10 years ago, the connections with G4 probably were a attempt to catch up the attention of the fans from that generation.

I like G5 and I'm following it, but I have to be honest and I say that if it wasn't for G4 I wouldn't be watching it (and neither be here )
