Source? Also, the banner swap is explainable, the old banner only showed the Mane 5 while the new banner on the TYT channel shows all of the new Mane 6 and the new TYT schedule announcement. I believe they want people to differentiate the MLP official channel with the TYT channel with the old banner being TYT's old banner.

G5 could have been great but they are "childifying" it so bad at the point it's ridiculous. Sure G4 was also for kids, but it was also watchable for adults and had nice thematics. 
Also I don't get why the 2 shows formula? I think they should have only done MyM because the CGI is really nice for a kid shows (les greater than the movie but still). I love the design of CGI ponies and all, while TyT is kinda lazy (CalArts design is boring in 2024, fight me), plus the sound every pony makes in background is so annnoooying (aaaahhh, oooh , hehe, iiii... just stop !).

You can tell Hasbro has it hard to make the show running at the point they had to include G4. I'm not against easter eggs, but here, it's too much. They even continue to produce G4 stuff ...

Speaking about toys, I think they are cute but again, they need to include G4 to sell ...

That gen will die soon in profit of G4 revival or something like this

Well in defense of those who think that there's something behind this decision, let's remember that there's also a channel for specifically for G4/FiM, so now the only banner differences between MLP Official and MLP FiM are the different background, different logo, different character renders and less characters. They could very well use a banner for MLP Official with G4 and G5 characters instead, as the channel uploads content from both generations, would make more sense.

But I think I'm on the "it doesn't mean anything" side, for me it's more likely that they changed to this banner because they know that G4 and Nerd Horse & 2010's Friends are more popular and sell the MLP brand more than G5, so it's purely a visual thing to make people understand that the channel wasn't just about G5 now, but MLP general and G4 pretty much represents the franchise as a whole nowadays, so it's just marketing reasons, that's why in Official they are using the modern logo while in the FiM channel it's the G4 logo, but I could be wrong.

And that's what I'm talking about when I say thay they aren't excited about this generation, there are so many characters in this generation for them to make toys, where is the Allura toy? Where is the Posey toy??? Instead, they prefer to make Nerd Grape Poneh again, man, like, Chapter 6 of MyM was the last time Twilight was somehow relevant for this generation, and that was like, 6 months ago? 

Also, take notice, even though this release is mostly about G5, it uses the G4 logo in the box art??? Why not the current MLP logo? But not sure if that really means anything, could be just a different brand thing, I noticed that some G5 boxes that have nothing G4 related also use the G4 logo for some reason, so wtf?

Not really sure if you're referring to G5 as a whole or just a specific show, but I do agree with that in case of Tell Your Tale, the show was originally made as a spin-off/minor production to meet the current era's new format of provision of children's content, which is through Youtube Kids for free, the episodes are short and fast paced because the younger audiences likes that style, I think it's not very good, but as a extra, for me it worked. MyM was the series made for the bronies/older audiences, higher production quality, longer episodes, deeper stories etc, plus you need to pay a streaming service to watch it. But now that MyM ended, all we have is TyT, which I agree, it's ridiculous, at least for the survival of this Generation, 5 minute episodes just isn't enough, sometimes they try to tell good stories in this show but the short format just ruins it, and some episodes are just dumb or a amount of chaos and ultra fast scenes & slapstick humor, fortunately there weren't so many of these so far in Season 2, in Season 1 there were a lot of these.

it was pretty much a Big production (MyM) and a minor extra production (TyT), so TyT was pretty much irrelevant, it was like G4, we had FiM and Equestria Girls shorts. Problem is, G5 is now living through the minor short show only.

I agree, there are people who really like the art style, the problem is, it's still very inferior and generic compared to G4, this makes it difficult for G5 to sell itself, as people will look at G4 and always think it is better visually, now imagine when buying the toys...that's my point.

They know that G4 is still more popular than G5, the animated show isn't even making connections with G4 anymore, but they keep rehashing G4 with the toys and stuff...

That's what i'm thinking, G5 is just in its 3rd year yet and it already feels worn out to me, while G4 is having a afterlife that doesn't even make much sense for it to have, like, new G4 comics in 2023? Why not make "Classics Reimagined" with G5 characters? Plus, the G4 merch just doesn't stop, and they making toys of the characters in G5 style.

Now I would like to remember you all of something...next year will be 2025, it will he G4's 15th anniversary, they are goung to celebrate it somehow...now, not saying that they will cancel G5 in 2025 and start a new G4 series or something, but just that new G4 stuff and nostalgia is probably going to run wild...

@Rafa Stary An extra thing I'll add regarding the banner is the timing, how this happened right when the TYT official channel's banner got updated. They don't want the MLP official channel to be confused as "the home of TYT", since it hurts TYT's viewership. I'm serious, there was a time when TYT's views were in a slump. After they switched to putting videos on the TYT official channel first, the views improved. Also, G5 ending in 2025 wouldn't be a cancellation, that would be a completion of its intended lifespan.

Probably. I'm sad because G5 has potential. The characters have nice design and strong personalities too, but the show is a mess. I love MyM but it ended up as a mess, TyT is not in. Yes it's a short format, yes it's not that serious, but it doesn't mean it has to be dumb, but it is. Dumb.

While G1 is popular for being the first gen (every first gen are popular btw), G4 has brought tons and tons of fans across the world, they still produce G4 content (thinking about the MLP app game. They still produce new ponies). The fanbase of G4 is massive and had blew up the internet with fans content, official conventions and so on. 

G4 is the new face of MLP and even over G1 until a new superior gen. G5 failed miserably, they'll end up soon the toys and any related content and will start back G4 with either brand new toys or re-edition of most G4 toys line.

 

Edit : I forgot to mention song. G4 had maaaany songs, in diverse styles. It’s impossible to say “I hate all g4 songs, you HAVE a favorite. G5? I don’t even remember one song, plus they all song the same : pop-rnb-ish easily forgettable.

I’m sure once the if Discovery doesn’t renew the contract with Hasbro in March 2025 then they will reboot FiM for G6

Or do more with the G4-G5 connection, hopefully making at least a token effort to use it intelligently instead of shoehorning references in all over the place.

Well that will give G5 more of a bad reputation so I don’t know if that’s the way to go 

 

Also if TYT or any G5 media is gonna do that you are gonna probably be waiting for mid 2026 for that to happen because of all the production and the writing that goes into these things usually take a year or so

THIS. I was about to open a thread about this topic specifically but since we're also talking about G5 ending, oh well. G5 toys are literally SO dissapointing to me. Compare to G4, and I mean, sure they did milk the mane 6 in many different ways, but there wasn't also a lot of different brushable random ponies that little girls could collect freely? Recently I get excited for seeing the new brushable ponies, despite these being very random characters in my opinion (mainly the Queen), but it's okay if at least Hasbro tries to stop milking ONLY the mane 5 ponies and throw out the horrible blind bags with inaccurate molds and start making more brushable of background ponies because, c'mon, it's MY little ponies, I should choose which ones I want, and it's not the same when my options are either tied to exclusive stores or for a limited time then all that is left are the same 5 characters with those same expressions in sets that are almost like the same. And I'm so mad at Hasbro that I never considered buying the mane 6 nostalgia-seek-project brushables.

Yeah, it was a rant about the toys, and I know not everyone that watches the show likes collecting them, but isn't the whole point of having a show to sell the toys?

You know, someone's current thoughts on G5 are entirely subjective, you can hate or love it, but now, is it working? That is different

Let's talk story-wise, G5 had a goal with MyM, the stories it was telling, the mysteries, the connections with G4, Opaline, Misty's character arc etc, they knew whay they were doing, it was very clear, there was a objective, eveything was in line, but what about now? They introduced us to the Auroricorns and just forgot about them (not gonna even mention Comet), anything new revealed by them is also forgotten right after or is just very irrelevant (as the recent reveal of the "Current Cloudsdale"), the characters no longer have a objetive or something to discover, all the connections with G4, the mysteries surrounding Twilight's past etc were thrown on the trash, Zipp was so enthusiastic about it and now suddenly she just forgot about it, the end of the Opaline arc literally left more questions than answers, and they just forgot about everything, Allura had a potential, but they're just doing nothing with her, the Mane Six forgot that she's in their "world", her goal has been completely ignored, that crystal thing that she was after (can't remember the name), split into pieces and there's nothing more about it. The Seapony was introduced out of nowhere like it was nothing, the Mane Six didn't give a fuck about it, characters keep disappearing from time to time, important story details are ignored (like Twitch "betraying" Allura in one episode, but in the next one he's back to her with no explanation) etc, etc, etc, so G5 story-wise is all fucked up and not going anywhere.

Regarding the toys, it's pretty much what I said in different posts, G5's art style is problematic, you can like it, it's okay, but you can't deny that people think G4 art style looks far superior, this complicates G5 from selling itself, as kids and adults will look at the toys and they'll want to buy the G4 ones, and not G5, so art style and models are another problem.

And there's of course the current content this generation offers, TyT already doesn't help the "story" G5 is trying to tell, the 5 minutes format just ruins it, but it was also clearly made as a minor production, it wasn't meant to be the main animated lead of this generation, and we only get new episodes every two weeks, which is ridiculous...

I personally really think G5 is ending in 2025, that they want to make more G4 related stuff or even a reboot, but just can't due to the contract with Discovery Famiky, which only expires in March 2025.

There's the possibility I mentioned before, that they could be already making the future stories with big G4 connections, but they are coming after March 2025, that's they had to delay the episodes, I don't know, I'm so hopeless with this generation, that I think it's very possible it will end with nothing special happening, you know, like how the DCEU ended.

Most of the 2023 TYT episodes if not all were made back in 2022 so that theory is can’t be it

All of the 2023 episodes were made in 2021-2022, check out the credits for the final episode of Season 1 for example, released in December 2023, made in 2022 

I think it's indeed safe to assume that all the episodes that will be released this year have already been completed in 2023, and they're just delaying them because whatever the reason that neither god nor the forces of nature know

Aside from the premiere of the series, I don’t think Hasbro was ever all that inspired by it. I think their board room may have been enthused by making the ponies all polished up with CG, but the writing has never been hugely inspired, and the way they scheduled, released and planned the show with different series and sub-series, it’s incoherent, messy and to this day I can’t figure out what timeline to follow or how each storyline fits into the overall tapestry of the show.

The characters are mostly pale retreads of the G4 ponies with just a few minor changes, and most of the actual changes don’t work anyway. This feels like what I predicted for G5; a nice-looking product with adequate-though-uninspired writing, and a general lack of excitement. But Hasbro has never been interested in quality as much as selling toys, that’s why we have so many Equestria Girls movies and only one G4 My Little Pony movie. If they thought in terms of box office or commercial revenue as much as they did merchandise, we’d see a much different G5 and a lot better promotion and handling of the later seasons of G4.
