Who are some of your favorite redeemed villains in media? Not just from MLP, but from any TV show, movie, etc.

Mine are:

Dr. Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb (really hope they don’t make him evil again in the new seasons)

Sunset Shimmer from Equestria Girls

The Ice King/Simon Petrikov from Adventure Time

Prince Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender

King Andrias from Amphibia

The Grinch from How the Grinch Stole Christmas (The original 1966 version)

The Winter Warlock from Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol

The Space Bandits from Jimmy Neutron

Megamind from Megamind

Captain Gantu from Lilo and Stitch (He was redeemed in Leroy and Stitch)

Zuko is my all time favorite redeemed villain. I really think he might be the best of all time honestly, he’s the absolute perfect example of how to do redemption arcs.

Vegeta is up there too. The full conclusion of his redemption arc with the “Kakarot, you are number 1” speech at the end of the Buu saga is legendary.

Omni-man in the Invincible comics has a fantastic redemption arc as well that goes on pretty much throughout the entire series. The show hasn’t completely covered it yet of course but I’m looking forward to when it does.

Gaara from Naruto is probably the best redeemed villain from that series. Dude genuinely just needed a hug and to know someone cares about him after having to deal with mountains of childhood trauma.

And of course there’s Darth Vader/Anakin. Not much to add since almost everyone’s familiar with him and his story.

  • 3 weeks later...

Tossup between Sunset Shimmer and Wallflower Blush.

Vegeta, definitely. You wouldn't think a warrior prince as hard-shelled as Vegeta could ever turn over a new leaf, but boy, did he ever.

Piccolo's was also pretty touching after he started bonding with Gohan.

Darth freaking Vader (actually that's not his middle name).

I feel like Darth's middle name is "Sandy"...fullsizeoutput_5d.jpeg.dfd3aed4ec7589a24a109d2d65ed441b.jpeg

Vegeta was the very first character that came to mind! I need to think of more, though.

Like I was thinking of Robin (One Piece) even though her role as a villain was very short-lived in the grand scheme of things and... it's been a looonggg time since I've re-familiarized myself with Alabasta or any of the early One Piece content. Either way, she has blossomed into one of my favorite characters.

Don't tell anyone! It would make it very difficult to rule the galaxy by fear and intimidation!

(edited)

I hate the trope of misunderstood villains. Because it gives an excuse that all criminals are just good guys who was led astray, and cant be possibly because a guy chose that life or anything, yawn.

You cant really claim to be a good guy, if you kill people for example. (Well maybe outside vigilante justice like Death Wish 1 movie was about.. but even then the guy is technically a criminal, its just that the public find him likeable is the difference, but you can sympathize when majority of people are the fed up with the system atleast)

But i see morality as "Scorpion and the turtle" story, that in the end there is always a choice.

I guess only redeemable people is if they are forced into a situation but do their best effort to avoid as much of the problems. Those i find redeemable.
