Questions on the Knights of Harmony/Knights of Order

My first question is: Who were the original members of the Knights of Harmony? I can find the names of the members during the Era of Twilight, but not from ancient times. I originally thought they were the same. I can only assume that the Knights of Harmony continued as a group throughout many generations.
 

My second question: What species are the knights!? I am leaning towards the idea that they are all Draconequus, but nothing is officially stated. Maybe it is up to interpretation?
