Shiny Silvermoon 4,315 July 8 Share July 8 (edited) Hello, every totally willing participants! I hope you're all doing well! Today is a bit special because my initial plan for this rabbithole was related to a completely different topic. However, life being so unpredictable, I've fell into a rabbithole myself recently, and it was absolutely impossible for me to not share this with you. So we'll be exploring together the absolute madness of a reality TV show by the name of Kid Nation. To be clear, if you'd make a tier list of the most dangerous and unreasonable reality show ever aired on TV, it would be a must to include Kid Nation. For you all, I will formulate a simple resume of what it's all about. So Kid Nation is a reality TV show in which 40 random children are sent in the desert of New Mexico for 40 days and they must survive without any help from the producers or any other adult. Well, it's not exact, the presenter of the show do intervene but you'll see that it's only to make things even harder for them. I'm not joking, this is really as bad as it sounds. You have to see it with your very own eyes. So without further ado, let me present to you 2 videos made by the Youtuber JonTron breaking to you more concretely the whole gimmick. Spoiler WARNING!!! Those two videos might contain swearing and cursing so, if you're a minor, you shouldn't watch those! Fortunately, if you continue to read what I've written bellow, you'll find another video more fitting for minors. Now, for those of you who fell into the rabbithole of this series, just like me, and are now thirsty for answers, you'll find bellow another video that delves deeper into the when, the where, the who and the why of it. After giving more context, the woman who made this video will then proceed to explain each one of the 13 episodes of Kid Nation. The video last for 2 hours but when you're hungry for more, you're hungry for more. Spoiler As usually, you can always leave a post in this topic, related to Kid Nation, and I'll enjoy reading it. In fact, I'll be shocked if there's not a mega thread happening here because Kid Nation is really insane. In fact, I might even post a blog because there's so much I want to say about this topic. So don't hesitate to show this rabbithole to anyone you know. Thanks for your time! Edited July 17 by Shiny Silvermoon 1

Iforgotmybrain 6,950 July 10 Share July 10 (edited) I watched the 2 hour long video last night. The whole show was surprisingly not as big of a disaster as I expected, I mean it wasn’t great but it seems like most of the kids enjoyed their time on the show. I do feel like the producers really messed up by trying to railroad the kids into doing certain things instead of just organically letting things play out. Also surprised there wasn’t a class uprising with how unfair the wages were for the different workers, though the producers probably made sure there was no such thing as it would be too controversial. What surprised me the most was the ridicule the literal children faced online, especially poor Taylor. It is absolutely insane to see grown ass men take a reality TV show so seriously that they’re making tier lists of literal children and calling certain ones “bitch”. Those two videos might contain swearing and cursing so, if you're a minor, you shouldn't watch those! Sorry, what? As if minors can't handle swearing? Not to sound mean, but I find this statement to be somewhat ignorant. There are lots of minors who swear, and it's generally not seen as too problematic, save for certain circumstances. To call something 18+ solely for featuring strong language is... ridiculous. There's a lot of media out there that features strong language and sustains a PG-13 rating. Now, I understand that there's a spectrum of intensity to the amount of swearing in a given piece of media. Still, your claim has failed to specify this intensity, as well as the presence of any more explicit themes that really justify the rating. It's ok if you don't like swearing, but I don't think throwing around the 18+ rating for that singular aspect is appropriate. I think that some more along the lines of "Trigger warning: swearing" would be more appropriate. Of course, this may be just a misunderstanding, and I might be overreacting. In which case, I apologize. I only wish to settle this misunderstanding. I'm not sure if I'm the only one who feels this way. In fact, I might just put this whole rant under a spoiler tag because it's kind of long. Please don't ban me, mods. ('c')

I'll keep the warning at it is for now, since I didn't have any other complaints about it. I understand your opinion and I respect it but I prefer to avoid having young MLP Forums' member swearing because of me. I hope you understand. Iridescent Edge 456 Friday at 02:10 AM Share Friday at 02:10 AM To ensure this thread doesn't just remember me for posting a rant about adults condescending to minors, even if I think that's a somewhat adjacent topic. Also, @Shiny Silvermoon, I do not believe you intended to condescend, it just came across that way a little to me. Anyway, my thoughts on Kid Nation: It sounds like it was pretty unethical, but I will agree with @Iforgotmybrain here and say that it didn't seem like it turned out as chaotic as it could have 1 ('c')
