Fluttershutter 3,125 Saturday at 01:39 AM Share Saturday at 01:39 AM I saw this somewhere else. You find a suitcase with $750,000 in a ditch. You can tell it's been there for more than a year and you're confident nobody knows it was there. What do you do? Keeping in mind that the government persecutes you if you have money they don't want you to have.
Clawdeen 23,921 Saturday at 08:21 AM Share Saturday at 08:21 AM Keeping that sounds like a bad idea that would likely end up with me being killed by whoever left that money there originally. Great because I was going to keep it anyway. Probably buy a bunch of things I don’t need. SharpWit 2,906 Saturday at 04:07 PM Share Saturday at 04:07 PM In the state of Washington, all found cash of over $100 must be reported within 7 days of finding it. However, if no one comes forward to successfully prove it's there's, you get it back, minus processing fees, or any additional reasoning the police can find for withholding it. So my best bet for keeping it without getting in trouble, is to give it up. Chances are slim, but those are my best odds. Although Asset Forfeiture can get a little slimy so eh

Iforgotmybrain 7,509 Saturday at 09:38 PM Share Saturday at 09:38 PM (edited) I feel like I’m being asked to launder money . If I’m doing that I’d look to buy stuff that’s easy to get with cash. Real estate is out of the question as the government is gonna find out about that somehow. Maybe classic cars or older super cars? Hold on to those for a bit, rent out a garage to keep them in, and then sell them eventually and get my legal and clean money that way. Starting your business could work too, if you have one maybe it suddenly sees a huge uptick in customers and revenue for reasons. If I’m just spending to spend, I’m buying the nicest yacht I can afford down south along with dock access and living in it. Any leftover can go to towards buying cars I like or maybe learning to fly alongside general living expenses. Night Sky 970 Sunday at 01:05 AM Share Sunday at 01:05 AM (edited) Don't even touch that suitcase, so they don't have to eliminate your prints, while you explain to law enforcement why you even touched property that's not yours to begin with. You don't know what kind of residue might be on that kind of money, in that kind of a suitcase, in that kind of a ditch, I mean both physically and karmically. Cause and effect, if it is either blood money or dirty money, then your gain was someone else's loss. You didn't earn it, one way or another though, you'll pay for it. No one leaves $700,000 dollars in a suitcase, in a ditch. Just today I saw on a billboard that the Power Ball is up to 1 Billion dollars. Guess what, your odds of winning that money are far greater than you ever coming across $700,000 dollars in a suitcase, in a ditch, that anyone left there for a good, or even a neutral reason. Call law enforcement and let the local news do a segment about what an Honest John you are. This advice is professional advice. Guess what, your odds of winning that money are far greater than you ever coming across $700,000 dollars in a suitcase, in a ditch, that anyone left there for a good, or even a neutral reason. It's a theoretical scenario. There must be a lot of money laying around forgotten somewhere in the world. I'd buy as much as I could for cash, obviously. Food I love, books, and electronics. Eat out a lot more. I hope I could get a lot of home repairs done for cash. And I'd put it randomly into the bank a few hundred at a time at random times. If the government thinks it's from drug deals let em. That's not enough to bother with. Somebody in the other thread said "Get a job as a waiter. Every day I'd have a great tip day." That's not a bad idea but being a waiter doesn't seem worth $750,000 to me.

Night Sky 970 Sunday at 07:47 AM Share Sunday at 07:47 AM Taking money you didn't earn is wrong. I wouldn't take it. I'd walk away, that is my answer to the hypothetical scenario. I can't predict what I would do if I weren't me. But I know that if I took the money, I wouldn't be me. That may sound lame or square to some ponies in the 21st century, I call it integrity. 2 FRIENDSHIP FINDS A WAY
Dreambiscuit 11,642 yesterday at 08:55 AM Share yesterday at 08:55 AM First of all, YES I would take it. This is not about greed but the fact that so many people are in need, and a bunch of money left abandoned in a ditch serves no one. Since it’s obviously been there for a length of time I would have no problem taking it because it’s clear no one is coming back for it. If reported and left to authorities, they’d have no problem taking for their own use and that is no exaggeration. Hoping for a reward is out of the question, but being arbitrarily accused for appropriating for the loot to begin with is very real; it ties up a loose end and costs the Feds nothing. So, authorities aside, money in private hands can actually do some good. I’d try to research any unfound money just be thorough, but again, we’re assuming for the sake of this discussion that no one’s coming to claim it. To be cautious I’d be sure to launder it somehow because it could be marked or tracked by someone I don’t know and it isn’t worth taking added risks. Once I’m convinced it’s safe to use, I’d let it do some good, starting with my own family, then a variety of charities, and keep just enough for myself for security. I’m not interested in luxury like fancy cars or mansions with more rooms than I could ever use; those are pointless status symbols and inherently worthless. I’d drive the same car I drive today, and live in a modest house. I’m happy enough as I am, but there are others I know who could definitely use it, and they’d be the primary beneficiaries. 1
