1.) Thank you! She's normally a healthy kid, just had a bad run of it a while back.

2.) This is always a hard one. I'm envious of people who can nail this one down to an episode or two. The ones I like most are based on what I was going through at the time or episodes that spoke to my past. An example would be "Do Princesses dream of magic sheep" and "The mane attraction" Speak about being true to yourself (with a killer song I listen to on repeat from time to time). In Magic Sheep it was deeper by confronting past trauma for a brighter path forward. While Magical mystery cure was amazing in so many ways (with another great song). Though I will always argue that the episode was a missed opportunity for Rainbow Dash. Her talent was never "just weather".

Alicorn, let me explain:

Dusk is an alicorn because her very essence is about holding opposites together like life and death, grief and healing, day and night. A single race would lock her into one narrow domain, but as an alicorn she embodies the full spectrum: the grounded resilience of the earth, the freedom and perspective of the sky, and the mystical depth of magic. This breadth makes her not just a character but a living symbol of transition, someone who can walk between worlds and still belong to both. Her story isn’t about power, it’s about weight, balance, and protection. In my opinion, only as an alicorn does she carry that archetypal presence. Dusk is basically me. I've taken all the best and worst parts of me, made adjustments for MLP lore, and created her. These are aspects that define me because Dusk embodies twilight (the time of day, not the pony), itself. She's the liminal moment between extremes. Does that make sense?

I think the biggest struggle I had with an Alicorn OC was the hate they get. I understand it. Mary sue OC's were certainly a thing during the peak, but I think the secret is to not misuse or place yourself of a "higher authority" then other ponies.

I would not want to be an Alicorn, not because I have any hatred or dislike towards Hasbro's character Twilight Sparkle, I do not, I just don't believe I could do a better job than Luna or Celestia, not in their fictional timeline from the TV show, or any other where they did not exist.

I'd want to be mentored and nurtured into being gentle like Fluttershy, with a personality like hers, sensitive and shy, and respectful, even if it came at the cost of being perceived as weak by bullies.

Being a pegasus for me would be enough, and I don't believe any one species of pony in MLP FIM are inherently greater or lesser, humans are not inherently lesser or greater either.

What I'd give to be in Equestria though material possessions are not a good replacement for love and being there for someone in need, I am not alone in saying these things either, on other forums I've seen some other people post similar wishes to my own. And like them, for me, it's not about wanting to be better than others, it's about wishing for a peaceful life. But I cannot go there, but what I can do, is try my best to make this life worth living.

Which leads me to my question and the topic of the thread, would you be afraid of Queen Chrysalis or Tirek if you were in that fictional world with the other characters? whether you would be or not, I don't judge you for this. I've said I'd be afraid of them but that would not stop me from wishing to be there. Sometimes a test of friendship comes from how we respond to threats, in my opinion.

Dusk's strength doesn't lie in raw power. Dusk is not as powerful as Luna or Celestia. She's more on par with Twilight. It was important for me to respect the canon as much as possible and not make an OP character. She is powerful. All Alicorns are in that world, but what she lacks in cosmic strength, she makes up in diplomacy and strategy. Like me, she's a strategist. She finds a weakness and exploits it using the power she does have. 

I think she would have a healthy fear of Chrysalis and Tierk because of their power and skill set. Only a very foolish pony wouldn't respect the damage they could do, but Dusk would still fight because protector is in her nature, like it is in mine. She couldn't let innocent ponies get hurt if she could help it. She would fight smart and do all she could, but she understands that she's not the biggest hitter in the game. She can lose, but fighting and losing is better to her than not fighting at all.

She would have given her power to Twilight to use against Tirek because that was the best call in that situation; to make one extremely powerful Alicorn to face him once he had Discords magic. I hope that answers the question!

I agree with you Dusk, Equestria does need capable fighters to defend the freedoms they all benefit from. I do believe you when you say your OPs alicorn powers are used with a desire to protect the innocent. Unfortunately the desire to be an Alicorn may get a negative perception by other people as being from ego, I know in your case it is not, but who knows what other people truly want? though personally I think it is not my business to go prying into the heads of other people, whether their daydreams are dark and dystopian or not, they're not harming anyone for merely thinking.

Plus I would not know what to do with all that power, sure, it would be cool to be an alicorn, but unless Dawnshine Wonder was a trainee in the Wonderbolt and in my fan fiction I was working on, Dawnshine Wonder is not, those powers would probably be wasted. Plus I would not want to be susceptible to corruption, a guilty conscience from hurting others is not something I'd want, hurting others period is wrong.

however there are other things in Equestria that need taking care of as well, what Fluttershy does, taking care of animals, that is helpful as well because a respect for wildlife and ecology starts with respecting innocent creatures within their habitats, remembering that the world we share works by a delicate balance, like Earth, Equestria's survival in MLP fiction depends on how its inhabitants treat each other.

What would your cutie mark be? mine would probably be something like the wheel of reincarnation. In my MLP FIM fanfic, my OP, like countless other souls in various timelines, gets reborn into different worlds, Equestria is in a magical realm, beyond that is a paradise dimension if essences of beings completed their life lessons of unity and friendship. It's only a fantasy, but I do wish that it could happen, one motivation for that is I'd like to be in a realm of happiness and peace with everyone, no one is so lost in their ignorance or depravity that they cannot be redeemed, I'd like to think even beings like Chrysalis given enough time would learn the error of their ways, she was not redeemed in the official show, but I wonder how it would happen if she did.

This is why I made her intentional not Over Powered. Giving her limits, flaws, emotional weaknesses is a strength I hope adds humility to the character. I think after the Gen 5 Alicorn soft retcon, it may be more acceptable because now we know Alicorns come from an actual place, rather than are limited to Luna, Celestia, and the very few who prove themselves. Of course at the time Dusk was created, I didn't have that to protect me from those who thought it was ego or that I thought the other races were somehow "lesser" when the are not in the least. Every race is important and every race has a role to play. An Alicorn is my race and suits my role to play.

As a side note, in the story I am writing on Fimfiction of Dusks life, most if it was lived under a cloak she enchanted to hide she was an Alicorn. She didn't want anyone to know because she was afraid of ponies thinking she was a princess or wanted to be worshipped\followed. She feared causing issues with the balance Luna and Celestia had created. She spent her time healing, helping ponies through grief, assisting in revival villages making peace, and always stayed outside the main cities. She did that for Celestia and Luna's first 1,000 year rein before Luna's banishment. Dusk has always been humble, only ever exposing herself in moment that power is required.

Dusk's cutie mark is a six-petaled, star-shaped lily, its petals fading from pale lavender at the tips to a deep twilight purple at the base, each flecked with tiny starlike specks. At its heart blazes a golden starburst, its light spilling outward to illuminate the whole bloom. The lily symbolizes resilience, harmony, and healing, while the starburst embodies Dusk herself, a guiding light extending beyond her own stillness, shining outward to protect, to lead, and to bring balance. Its a reminder that her gift lies not only in wholeness within, but in sharing that wholeness with the world. I have a pic but I need to find it.

I like the duality of day and night and Princess Celestia's and Princess Luna's role in this, they represent forces of nature that is to be respected, not shunned, and I believe that was Celestia's motivation for wanting to reconcile with her sister Luna in Friendship is Magic episode 1. At the time, during Luna's banishment in the moon, Celestia was responsible for both the day and night, but this would have been difficult for her to do, she would have been overworked from her duties I would imagined so for Luna to rejoin with her sister could not have come at a better time. After being defeated by Mane Six, I'm sure Luna herself was tired from the fighting with her sister Celestia, and she wanted it to end, anger is not a nice feeling for anyone. Also I think it's cute that Luna and Celestia found peace, I love them both, Luna's bravery in finding strength in forgiveness, to not blame her sister for what other ponies thought about her, and Celestia showing others the value of mercy and justice is not always about punishment.

Perhaps your role as your OP in  your fanfic in your timeline, would be to prevent Luna's outburst in Royal Problem by being aware of Luna's mental health problems during the whole Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep debacle, knowing that she was still holding onto negativity in her life and she needed help, and that wounds like that take a long time to heal. She needed a support network, her emotional problems were seemingly swept under the carpet in Hasbro's official show, but perhaps you could change that in your own timeline.

It sounds like you have met Twilight Sparkle? Are you two friends? What would you consider your relationship with her be, given that you are both alicorns?

Thank you for such a great question @Skylight Scintillate. I've known Twilight ever since she became an Alicorn. Our introductions had to wait after Celestia's past pupil, Sunset Shimmer, abandoned her duties and left through the mirror dimension. It became too risky to introduce me to anyone else before Alicornhood. We share a great friendship, with common interests in books, science, and magic. We differ on interests in military strategy and acculum, and her love of the summer months and activities. I love the pony Celestia dearly, but you can keep the hot months. Bleh.

My focus as a mentor (All four of us Alicorns mentored her at some point) was teaching her the art of Diplomacy and combat. Dimplocy because she would need it and combat, hoping she never would. It was my great pleasure to watch her take what I taught her and make it her own. I consider her wisdom valuable and would happily fight wing to wing beside her. She's such a delightful pony. I wish everypony had the great honor of meeting her and calling her a friend. I hope that answers your question!
