There are many ways to spiritual enlightenment and happiness, and true spiritual freedom will always cost nothing. There is nothing those people, well-intentioned as they might be, can teach you that you can't learn from somewhere else for free. Jesus, Buddha, Muhammed, and every other "prophet" and moral teacher would tell you the same. Open your heart to goodness and close it to evil - it knows which is which - and the truth you seek will follow from there.

Joining is free, but to advance in the religion and actually start learning about things they believe (like the stuff I wrote about) you have to pay for expensive courses and stuff and become an OT.

I will not tell you anything positive or negative about Scientology. As objectively as I can, I am recommending instead that you investigate Eastern philosophies in combination with Western science. It will lead you to a very comforting worldview and a secure, real knowledge of your physical and mental well-being. I recommend reading "Ideas and Opinions," a fantastic collection of essays and letters written by Albert Einstein. You will hear this phrase many times in your life, but believe it now: This is good for you.

EDIT: A great deal of "Ideas and Opinions" can be found for free at http://books.google....epage&q&f=false. I can guarantee you'll find something to like in his level-headed, insightful and practical observations about the world and our place in it.

Thank you very much! I am very interested (and somewhat well versed) in Eastern culture and religion as well as the sciences.

However, there is a reason I made this thread about Scientology. As a brony, and a member of a highly misunderstood religion that teaches such things, I want to spread love and tolerance of all people. It is my goal to use the beliefs and practices of ALL religion to help better myself.

I also do not want other people's beliefs and standards to be treated with the same ignorance, disrespect, and intolerance that mine are due to misinformation.

I'm pretty cool. I think.

There is a huge reason why you are going to get biased sources. For your own safety and sanity, please do not get tied up in that mess. I don't care what you believe in. You could believe that purple bunnies from Mars created everything and I would not care or be concerned. But getting involved with people who are famous for depriving people of proper medical care, stealing people from hospitals who were in life and death situations and letting them die, keeping people from ever seeing their families ever again, brainwashing people into giving them all of their money to their names, go after people who badmouth scientology and hurt them financially and physically, and other horrific things is NOT okay. Again, go ahead and research all you want, but don't set foot in their doors and let these people try to teach you their "religion" themselves. I'm not trying to be a jerk here, I'm honestly concerned for you.

Thank you for your concern.

However, my search for information is for just that. Information. Not spiritual enlightenment. Not a reason to convert.

If they require me to get an e-reading or whatever to give me information at their church, eh, whatever. I am already a deeply devout member of another religion and I want to live my role in that church more fully by being an example of love towards all people and learning everything I possibly can.

That's it. No more than that.

That's a noble cause. Seeing what all the fuss is about in established religions is part of the spice of life. The key to success, and also the most difficult part, is knowing how to sift through the myriad belief systems in the world and determine what is worth knowing. It takes a great deal of critical thinking, more than many people might suspect would be required in matters of faith. However, nothing can match the satisfaction of when your beliefs about the world match up with your observations. That's the joy at the heart of science, and also at the center of many faiths such as Taoism and Buddhism. With the pursuit of truth as your compass you will never be lost.
