Princess Celestia's Cutiemark

Was Princess Celestia Born With Her Cutie Mark, Or Did She Have To Earn It Like Everypony Else?

I Think She might Have Been Born With It Because She's A Godess.

Basically MyQuestion Is: Did Princess Celestia Have To Discover She Was Going To Be The Ruler Of Equestria And The Raiser Of The Sun, Or Was It Already Decided By Some Unknown Fate?

Oh, Hey Rarity, Like My Mustache?

She might be a powerful pony, but she's still a pony nonetheless, and I believe she had to earn her cutie mark, just like anypony else.

While she may be arguably the most powerful pony in Equestria, I do not think she or Luna are goddesses. Maybe Demi-gods, that would even push it for me honestly. And I only say demi-gods because of their magical power capabilities and their extended lives/possible immortality.

Luna and Celestia would of been rasing the moon/sun before Equestria was made, They came along after all of the Unicorns tended to the moon and sun. So I think they had to earn their marks once they knew what they were going to be doing for their lives.

It's actually been stated by Faust herself that they are not deities of any kind, so you're correct.

My vote goes to she one day found her destiny, and worked at it, and, being a powerful alicorn, one day was able to raise the mighty sun using her magic all on her own, thus marking her fitness to be a ruler. That is probably when she got her cutie mark.

That seems about accuate. Prior to Celestia and Luna, the Unicorns were responsible for the cycles of the sun and moon. Celestia had to hone her powers, though she likely possessed a natural affinity for magic not unlike Twilight has displayed through her development.

Celestia and Luna's power are unrivalled (save for Chrysalis who overpowered Celestia with the help of Shining Armor), so it wouldn't necessarily be silly to call them goddesses. For example, cavemen would consider modern-day humans as gods, because we're highly technologically advanced compared to them.

Touche. So ponies may think they are indeed gods/goddesses, but they were not designed to be entirely. That is what you are getting at I assume.

I have enough reason to believe that part of a lore within MLP will never be clarified by the writers in the series. They've been quite solid-strict on what kind of story-element they try to introduce within the series so far up to the second season and considering a fair amount of realism and logic-consistency problem going on with both of them, I heavily doubt they will try to sort that out.

They need to flesh her character out a bit more before they should do anything like that as well.

Well... I suppose you could consider your ruler to be a goddess, especially given Celestia's credentials splattered all over Equestrian history, such her and Luna's take down of an omnipotent foe (Discord), but really? There could very well be a more powerful being than even Discord. Remember, power is relative.

Perhaps the royal sisters earned their cutiemarks when they overthrew Discord? We don't know where they were before that, but it is implied that Discord controlled things for a while before they stepped in, so they would not have moved the sun/moon until then. The sun and moon also symbolizes the balance and order they brought back to Equestria.

It seems as if both Celestia and Luna were already in a position of authority when Discord went on his initial rampage. They had to be capable of wielding the Elements of Harmony. I'm sure defeating Discord only elevated their status.

I always thought that Alicorns were like Greek gods: demi-gods for the most part that can still be killed and reproduce

Just because they're part god doesn't mean that they aren't mainly pony

And that was my primary theory until Lauren debunked it for me... now i just think that they're some kind of messiahs gifted with these abilities. Either that or they're just a more advanced race

Then again, Cadence doesn't seem to powerful as of yet, and she seems to age like a normal pony... maybe Alicorns have to prove themselves worthy before they're gifted. Or like bee's, there are queen Alicorns and worker Alicorns...

So many possibilities... we need to kidnap and dissect an Alicorn!

What makes ME a good brony?! IF I WERE A BAD BRONY, I WOULDN'T BE LOGGED ON TO THIS FORUM, DISCUSSING IT WITH YA'!!!

There are actually royal guards who are Alicorns, so it's not exactly a "mystical race", all things considered. Unless all Alicorns have some freakish power (Luna, Celestia), and had incredible talents symbolized by their cutie mark (Cadence), I'm inclined to believe that it's just another species - just found in relatively small numbers.
