TheFabulousPony 102 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 I hate the term closet Brony (as I have mentioned before). I am gay, so coming out of the closet was a big deal. But coming out as a Brony just seems so ridiculous... Seriously. It's a tv show... Not a lifestyle etc. It's not like when people see you like MLP you suddenly can't get married or vote or something lol. The worst I ever see is teasing in real life, on the Internet you get the usual crap that comes with being a fan of anything. My Brony friends all share the same confusion as I do, it's just...meh. Princess_Molestia 1,460 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 yeah MLP is the only show that you are in the closet with, if you don't tell everyone to many its more then a tv show, to me-its just a tv show I treat it like a tv show, not some untouchable god status entity that can do no wrong its just tv I think people would be a tad more understanding of the whole brony thing if they just left everyone alone about it most people, at the end of the day, don't really care if so and so watches a tv show, no matter what tv show it is. don't try and convert haters or anyone, if they want to watch it they will-people have free will for a reason. suggesting is fine, hounding someone non stop isn't never met a star trek fan that said "you have to watch deep space nine (I'm not a fan onf ds9) its so awesome and I won't leave you alone until you do" though my thinking methinks is to radical and will be ignored, but as long as I know its just a show and not acting like an ass, I'll be fine Can't visit Ponyville? Show up and say you can't!
evilcorgi 48 January 17, 2013 Share January 17, 2013 Why do some bronies have a persecution complex? Because they're teenagers. It's as simple as that. Teenagers can be remarkably stupid when it comes to the routes they'll take in order to get attention or feel unique, and being "persecuted" is very popular nowadays. Only makes sense some bronies will turn liking a television show into a huge identity crisis. As a fourteen year old myself... I wish I could call you wrong. Sadly, this generation WILL do anything to stand out. Give yourself super-sayin hair and dye it neon? Sure. Wear clown makeup in public and call yourself a "juggalo"? Do it! Or, of course, like a "little girls cartoon" just for shock value? People my age will do it. And the shining cherry on the attention sundae, persecution. You see, you can't JUST like a weird show, no-no. People have to hate you for it. That's what really gets sympathy. My generation will do anything for five seconds of fame, especially jump on a traditionally deviant but up-and-coming fad *cough* Skrillex *cough* and act like there's some witch-hunt going against them. bunnybuzki 45 January 19, 2013 Share January 19, 2013 (edited) Egh, teenagers get it pretty bad from everyone else. They literally feel feelings stronger than any other time in their lives and all anyone does is give them shit for it. I mean, yeah I get it, the second you are no longer a teenager you feel a strong dislike for them, and they have a billion flaws but they also have the majority of younger and older generations saying a lot of hateful things about them too. And honestly I think the regional issue is more than just, America and Europe. America has so many different perspectives! Where I live, no one cares about anything, if anything they'll give you shit for being too religious. I can't think of anyone else who is discriminated against around here, but I have lived in different parts of the country and know everything is different everywhere, within a few miles, within the same city but in different neighborhoods - know what, even in the same neighborhood but different schools. It's just messed up to generalize. I have heard the term "closet" with so many random things, "closet trekkie, closet nerd, closet happy meal eater," etc. It's an expression that's stolen to lighten up less serious things. But the correlation with someone finding out you are a "brony" and assuming you are "gay" or a "pedophile" is very real. It totally isn't a big deal to just like a tv show, but if you lived somewhere where liking a tv is a big deal, then it changes that perspective. If we didn't care at all about sexual orientation then you wouldn't feel the need to share that either. Same thing with various religious persecution. You don't need to come out if you live somewhere where religious persecution doesn't exist, but in some places you will feel like it's a serious thing you need to tell certain close relations. I don't know if it will ever be as serious because it is a TV show but it's the same concept to a less serious degree. Retro*Derpy 3,194 January 19, 2013 Share January 19, 2013 Well, being a closet Brony isn't all just because they are afraid to be shunned, but punished. Parents seeing their teen enjoy them-self by watching an educational show is total unacceptable in their eyes and they could range from just banning the brony from the computer, to actually visiting a therapist. It's sickening.
Scootalove 10,689 January 19, 2013 Share January 19, 2013 I really see that people are closet bronies because, they don't feel comfortable admitting to being a brony. Usually when in the right mood, its easy to admit. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
DoctorWhovian1902 596 January 19, 2013 Share January 19, 2013 Plus, with the exception of a few media outlets, the vast majority of newspapers have published either neutral or positive reports on bronies. There is no serious mass-persecution of bronies taking place, especially when we get shoutouts from Steven Cobert and glowing reports from the likes of even conservative newspapers like the Wall Street Journal. *Spit take* We don't? The first thing my parents found on bronies was a slanderous article on how "ridiculous" it is that we watch MLP. I have seen very few positive articles about bronies.
