Fancy Applebloom

Somewhat of a follow up for my previous Lady Applejack :)

Had a ton of fun designing AJ's dress, so I thought I'd give her little sister one too :D

Upped my image size, which was way too small (and kind of stupid of me) when I worked on Applejack

But I didn't change my brushes with it to get the same result as the smaller scale so it looks a little rougher.

And I kind of... rushed this out, but that's what I'm so used to do  . I've become a lot less about 30+ hour work (like full blown illustrations, rather things (concepts) I can do within a day. So Applebloom took me around 6 hours.

... so my other true self showed its face once again. (because this style is similar to my older non-MLP works on deviantart)

Not entirely satisfied with the outcome, but most of it should have be done in base line art

I ran through it because I thought I took too long

Though Maybe I'm just not looking at it with fresh enough eyes :P

Before I get into what I think, I'd like to give some advice. You don't need to follow it, but I feel like I should share it with you. My tip for you is that there isn't any need for you to rush these things, especially if you'll be dissatisfied with the end product. There's no feeling quite like spending countless hours on a single project and coming out with something you can really feel proud about. Also, and this is an unrelated personal thing, but I also take the attitude that nothing I ever do is just a throw-away project. All of them are equally as important, and deserve the same amount of time and attention to detail. It's a huge time commitment, but it's so worth it, when it's all done, to have a finished product that makes you feel good about the time you spent on it. But that's just me.

All of that aside, that's a cute outfit for Applebloom. I like how frilly it is, and the medallion necklace is a nice touch. Also, blue is a good color for her. Great work! My only concern is that I'd hate to see you post more rushed pictures that you don't like. I hope my advice helps, even if in just a small way.

Half of what I say is meaningless, but I say it so that the other half may reach you.

I agree it doesn't really need to be rushed (especially since it's Pony Fan Art), though I guess it's kind of because of me taking it from the (game) concept artist direction. Considering design choices more important (line art, colour choices) rather than execution

It's the approach I have had for couple years because of college (general game artist) Where it was more important to push out quick concepts on which you base the final product. Which I can surely do with these though. Using these kinds of things as reference for full blown illustration.

After a night sleep (after a long day :o), I got to mention I think it's just the shading I think about, look and feel that I'd like to change rather than the initial idea and colours which I do like (I'm glad I ended up with blue, with Applejack I could just think about the Gala dress colours)

I'll probably do more "concept art" style (quicker) works like these, I do always keep higher detailed things in mind though whether I begin them ... :P

As for the throw-away part, I think you're right that it's a personal choice. I don't really consider any work I'd do thrown away time though. But I'm so used to taking the best things out even the worst. To me there is no real "bad" drawing, sometimes it's just about having the idea on paper and shareable with others for the sake of sharing that idea. and again I noticed how I've grown a lot more as a concept artist rather than an illustrator

But I'm glad to hear you like the ideas I put in this one :D It's the main reason I make things, having ideas become "real"

And I do really appreciate your post, you should know that it does affect me :) I consider anyone's input important and this gives me a new view and thing to think about.

Like it does give me a somewhat of a nudge and reason to explore longer/bigger works (sooner)

Even though you say you rushed it, it is really quite a great piece of art I must say, the detail of your drawings are always a treat to the eye!

Nice work :)
