The only Apple product I have ever owned is an iPod shuffle. It broke after 3 months. Wasn't really that great either, had little storage space, and no screen.

I'm a mac gamer so Steam will always be my home

Maybe with the inability to make PC games on windows 8 the mac will rise to power (one can only dream)

 

I rarely game with the Mac, I do use Steam occasionally for Garry's Mod and Killing Floor, but that's about it. The rest, I stick with the Xbox.

They're far better machines than a lot of Windows machines. You can make the argument that PCs are more powerful... they're also interchanagable. For the average professional/consumer, Macs are lovely to use. On the topic of software, Mac OS X is much better than Windows ever was or will be.

As much as I might want to give in to agreeing with you, this thread is going to become a Mac vs. PC flame war.

 

Both platforms were designed for different uses. Macs are for those who have no interest in knowing the deep down works of a computer and just want to get work done, like video editors and photography people that do... stuff. PCs are for those that want to know their computer inside and out, code the crap out of stuff, and do all sorts of stuff, like game, hack, and other stuff.

 

I hate the Mac vs. PC arguments, it's f@#king pointless at times, the insults immature. It just leaves everyone pissed off. What might work for one, won't work for the other. It all just needs to be let be.

True, I've looked at Windows 8, and it doesn't look good at all. Hopefully there will still be plenty of compies of Windows 7, which I like.

Windows 8 is a disaster. It's an OS for phones and tablets that's being redesigned for the PC. I hate it.

Apps are for smartphones, not desktop computers. I 100% agree with Gabe on this one, and I can't wait to see some Linux support soon (Yeah, he has said he's wanting to port Steam to Linux). Damn, I could be running steam and some games on a Raspberry Pi very easily if that happens!

 

If you don't know what a Raspberry Pi is, or Linux, Google is your friend.

It looks like Microsoft is trying to take the open source operating system that windows was known for and turn it into a closed source Xbox Live-Except-On-PC thing. I think most of us will stick with XP/Vista/7 as apposed to 8. I agree with Gabe, it really is a catastrophe.

My 1st reaction is to think, “Yes! Finally! It's about time already!!” My 2nd reaction is cynicism. I really hope that this isn't just a strategy that Valve is using to scare Microsoft enough to keep Windows 8 an open platform.

 

Actually, http://blogs.valvesoftware.com/linux/steamd-penguins/, they ARE bringing Steam and L4D2 to Linux. Regardless of what happens on this Windows front.

 

And for the record, yes, I hate Windows 8 too. Sticking to lovely 7 and Linux.

And now there is further criticism from Notch (creator of Minecraft), it seems to be aimed at Microsoft making it a closed platform.
