gaming pokemon remakes

lolz I see your point yo, but one thing, Yellow was a re-release, not a remake of red and blue, same with Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum, they're just like special editions of the originals. Remakes are Fire Red, Green Leaf, Heart Gold and Soul Silver. but yeah, Emerald was an epic version, and good to see they added the pokemon motion featured in Crystal, Gym Leaders were stronger, Steven wasn't the last opponent in the Pokemon league, it was Wallace, the last gym leader from Ruby and Sapphire, u still get to fight Steven later in that Meteor cave part, you know, where u can find Solrock and Lunatone. my fave part from Emerald was the battle frontier, sooooo challenging, in fact I havent finished it yet, thats how hard it is, but I like it. and yes I see why u want a Remake of Emerald, but that wouldnt happen sadly, they would remake Ruby and Sapphire nut not emerald, when game Freak makes remakes, they only remake the two original versions, not the special third one :< and if they did, they'd have to re'release fire red and green leaf coz its easier to trade and battle on DS using wireless, but yeah I heard they MIGHT remake ruby and sapphire so stay alert, if they do, I'll be a happy brony =D

I skimmed this thread and I feel like I gotta clear some things up and toss out a theory of mine in the process

First, reading stuff like "To me, the new Pokemon aren't even Pokemon" and "GameFreak needs to stop making new pokemon and go back to the original 150" and "I don't really like Pokemon anymore seeing as the new games suck now IMO" and "Black and White isn't that much of a step up from Emerald, the only really difference is the DS's use of 2.5D" absolutely MURDERS ME. Marshmallow's posts are the only ones I can read in this thread without nerdraging hardcore, no offense to everyone else. What's happening here is you guys aren't even willing to try new things and learn about the changes in the series. Sure, it may be your opinion, but it's also an uneducated opinion. When you were young and there was this thing you heard of called "Pokemon," did you judge by what you saw and whether or not it looked like a Pokemon to you, or did you just play the damn games and enjoy them?

First quote, and yes this is me being lazy and not using the quote function: what makes them not Pokemon to you? Is it the way they look? Is it the unoriginality in their design? Is it simply the fact that they're newer than Mew/Celebi/Deoxys, depending on the last gen you found to be tolerable? I see no way to discern what is or isn't a Pokemon based on those characteristics. If Gamefreak made it and put it in a Pokemon game and it's usable the same as any other Pokemon, it's a Pokemon.

Second quote: gahh why do I even bother trying to refute opinions, but why do they need to stop making new Pokemon and "go back to the original 150," whatever that even means? Are we completely ignoring Mew and hashing out Kanto remakes every year? How happy would anyone be with the same old shit over and over again? 150 isn't even close to a large enough selection to have decent variety in anything. Let's look at the number of certain types out of Kanto Pokemon, shall we? Ghost: 3. Ghastly, Haunter, Gengar. Dragon: 3. Dratini, Dragonair, Dragonite. Using the two types introduced in GSC, Steel: 2. Magnemite and Magneton. Dark: ZERO. Normal: 24, counting Normal/Flying and Ditto, 15 without them. Even not counting Normal/Flyings and Ditto, there are still almost twice the amount of Normal types as there are Ghost, Dragon, Steel, and Dark types COMBINED in the Kanto Pokedex. If we're talking about only Gen 1 mechanics and moves, there is a grand total of ONE Dragon move, and it deals fixed damage. Flying moves are limited to Fly and Drill Peck, which only a few Pokemon get. Any way you look at it, going "back to the original 150" would be a terrible thing to do for everyone involved.

Third quote: What about them makes them suck to you? I'd really like to know.

Fourth quote: At least know what you're talking about before you state things as fact. In Emerald, attacks were separated into categories of Physical and Special based on what type they were (namely Normal, Fighting, Rock, Ground, Ghost, Poison, Flying, Bug, and Steel are physical and Water, Fire, Grass, Psychic, Electric, Dragon, Dark, and Ice are special). Ever since, the distinction has been made on a move-to-move basis, meaning Thunderbolt is special and Thunderpunch is physical, for example. This changed a lot more than it sounds like, since Gyarados now has a physical Water move in Waterfall, Dragons can actually use their higher Attack stat for Dragon Claw/Outrage, Gengar has special STAB moves for a change, etc etc. There were a lot more minor things added too, for example 263 POKEMON and tons of new moves, leading to new strategies like Trick Room. No, they're not identical in terms of strategies you can use to defeat your opponents, surprise surprise.

Here ends me being an uptight, nitpicking ass who knows too much about Pokemon. Time for my theory.

Standard Pokemon generational formula: Two main games in a new region, third game in that region that adds some postgame stuff and smooths out mechanics and adds, changes, or combines plot points, and two remakes of the games two generations prior with updated graphics and mechanics. That's how we get Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and LeafGreen in Gen 3, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver in Gen 4. Thus far, Gen 5 has deviated from the path a bit in that instead of a combination game for Black and White, due to the duality of the plot, we got two games where one would normally be. This leaves one remaining game to fill the 5 game generation outline. An Emerald remake, rather than remakes of Ruby and Sapphire, could resolve this issue quite nicely, although there's not much stopping them from doing RS remakes because that's one extra game that people would pay for. I may just be thinking along these lines because Emerald is my favorite Pokemon game, but a guy can dream.

I apologize if anyone got offended by all that preceding text, and admittedly right now I'm just stalling so I can get a post over 5000 characters, which happened during this sentence. Peace out

Ok everyone move off this topic...we just got OWNED...
