Chrysalis' true colours?

Magic Man

Recommended Posts

Here's what I've been thinking. Chrysalis reminds of Trixie to an extent, in that she puts up a very confident and arrogant front in front of everypony else, especially when they are the ones in control. However, when her front fell, Trixie was shown to be a simpering, useless dud.

Therefore, with Chrysalis, when she is not posturing or boasting how she is better than her enemies and of her glorious upcoming victory, how does she really act? Who is she behind that smug shell? The problem is, we did not get to see how she really acts when she is not winning other than her screaming "nooo" and being sent flying into the distance. It's mostly up to fan interpretation.

For example, I view her as to truly act like a spoiled child behind her front, Somepony who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and given everything her rotten little heart desires? I mean, just think of how her PARENTS must been like. I see her as still being that little child but now in a grownup's body and with absolute power. The thought of Chrysalis pounding her royal chamber's floors in a temper tantrum is amusing to say the least.

What are your thoughts?

Ps, please keep in mind her backstory, however creatively we interpret it, is not the main focus of this topic. It's about her true personality when she isn't posturing.

It's kind of like with your boss at work. Yeah, some of them act high and mighty with all their power, but when you take that out of the picture, then who are they really? Does that make sense?

To have to find the food for your ENTIRE nation to keep them alive must be a very daunting task.

She probably has a life filled with sadness at her people suffering from lack of food and knowing that it's all down to her not being able to support them.

I had always thought Chrysalis had been born in poverty, with a lot of hardship and pain while also being given the pressured duty of being Queen of the Changelings. We must remember that she was there to provide a home for her Changeling clan. Chrysalis fought in a world she felt oppressed in. That's why by the time she imprisons a "born-in-riches" Princess, she is adamant in serving her 99% - and she is willing to do anything it takes to survive. But then she is beaten dry easily, like the villain that she is. Discord was the closest to beating Everypony - it was just his pride and underestimation of the Elements of Harmony that had his head on a stick (or body in stone).

Please keep in mind this has to do with her PERSONALITY, not her backstory. This is a good interpretation of her background, but not what the topic is about.

And who are we to say that Chrysalis is a complete villain, anyway? It was basic imperialism. She used any means possible to provide for her clan, and she inevitably failed. It is like the Huns of Mulan. They were not "bad guys". They were just an imperialistic army that planned to expand their empire for resources. It was war. And ally's fair in love and war. China had already been doing this for centuries. Partaking in war and expanding upon foreign territories to call their own. This is the same deal with Chrysalis.

You mentioned Chrysalis being "someone born with a Silver Spoon in her mouth and given everything her rotten little heart desires". This is mention of her past/backstory. I was merely providing my own input, therefore it was part of the topic.

Nope, Chrysalis isn't like Trixie, to me. She walks the walk as well as talks the talk, unlike Trixie. She's arrogant like Trixie, she can be boastful, but not to the extent Trixie was.

Again, good points in their own right, but not really related to what this topic is about. Personality, not her intentions or actions.

Yes, I said that is how I interpreted her in my own way, but I only used that to base what I believed to be her true colours. Your posts were mostly to do with her actions and trying to justify them.

In order to explore a personality, one must explore the past/experiences.

So would you say you take her posturing and arrogance at face value? That that is how she really is?

I see her as bossing people around and being a heartless tyrant, not someone who whines and complains. In the end, Trixie shrivels because she can't back up what she wants. Chrysalis can.

Yes, but I think you were talking those parts more than the personality itself.

So, for example, I think behind the pomp and boasting, she is a spoiled brat. Now, with past aside, behind the pomp and boasting, what do you think she is?

I think behind her evil queen exterior, she's, well... an evil queen. She's probably been taught how to infiltrate communities and nations for love, and pretty much has to be set in her ways to get her people what they need based on how they look look and what they do, and I don't really think she could change much about that.
