gaming Mature vs. Kiddy

Throw me in with the folks saying that the amount of blood, gore, violence, death, destruction, foul language, sex, and all other forms of 'mature' content that may be found within a game has little at all to do with how mature it is in and of itself.

 

Unpopular opinion: I consider Tetris to be a more 'mature' form of entertainment than doing 360 no-scopes in Call of Duty and similar games.

 

Disclaimer: Despite not finding them to be particularly mature, I do play and enjoy a number of 'immature' first person shooters.

My cousin said i need to grow up and play more call of duty, I pointed his attention to the 6 year old on his couch playing it

 

There is a huge difference between what is kiddy and what is not, and just because something is appropriate for kids, does not mean it's kiddy. However it's hard to explain it, I don't know why, but to me something like barney or Dora is kiddy, whereas MLP or spongebob, these are ok for kids to watch, but have more sophistication in there writing making it much more mature, without being innapropriate for kids.

 

Also I don't see why nintendo games are considered kiddy. Here are a few examples

 

Mario: Massacre various species of turtle-type creatures by stomping them to their death. Also Super Mushrooms=Steroids, Starman=LSD

Pokemon: Train Various creatures to viciously fight against each other

Kirby: Giant gumball that traverses various lands to eat creatures and steal their souls to make use of their abilities

the only thing defining if a game is kiddy or not is the target audience. Pokemon is a kids game because kids play it more than adults, but you will rarely see a little kid playing COD.

 

My six year old cousin and all his friends play it. The series does not have borders with its age demographic or gender anymore.

I know, I wasn't saying that the games should be stereotyped like that, i just mean that the majority of people think that way
