What was your reaction to Princess Cadence?

I don't really have a problem with her, it's just that, I find Cadance, and Shining Armor were both introduced too late and you don't really get to know much about that, they should have at least referenced the characters a few times over season 2, so I'm just guessing they made the characters on the spot for the finale.

I didn't know she would be in season 3 :blink: Now I can't wait!

 

I don't really understand how so many see her as a Mary-sue. She's not really that powerful, and comes off as a pretty well developed character to me.

I liked her. Yea, she was mean for a while but it was pretty obvious something fishy was up when she didn't know the "Ladybug's Awake" chant. So when they got to the real her it was even better to see that they made her just as nice as I thought she would be.

 

And as far as people thinking her and Shining Armor needed to be mentioned sooner, they didn't need to be. They played no importance in any episode except the final two of the last season. And no one ever asked Twilight about her brother so why would she mention it?

 

The one thing about me that makes me wonder is who her parents are. They say she's Princess Celestia's niece which means she's either Luna's daughter or Celestia has other siblings beyond Luna. That's the part I want to know more about.

I like Shining Armor more as a new character, but she's pretty cool. Interested to see what her roles are in Season 3 and beyond.

Well Lauren Faust originally designed her as unicorn.....to bad they didn't keep it that way, but anyway I like her. :)

I really like the design of Cadence but it really annoys me she was'nt introduced earlier on. considering her importance you think twilight would have mentioned her before. Also she could have used more development.

Cadence didn't need to be introduced right away, but I think Shining Armor did. They even had opportunities with episodes that took place in Canterlot. Why not have had Twilight introduce Shining in passing to the other Mane 5 and have Rarity hit on him or something upon finding out that he's a knight? It would have taken all of 2 seconds and made for an okay gag.

 

We don't know much about the alicorns, do we? It could be that Celestia and Luna are simply 2 siblings amongst many others and one of them is Cadence's parent.

As many already stated, she felt a bit "random" since they never mentioned her and Shining Armor before, especially since they had such a big part of Twillight's childhood. Still, I have nothing against her and Shining Armor as characters, and I find them rather well made.

I found her a bit sappy/corny at times with the whole "my love will make you strong" stuff, but other than that, she was pretty cool. I think we need to see more of her to really get a full sense of her character, though, so I'm looking forward to seeing what her part will be in the Crystal Pony arc. She has a nice singing voice, too.

She was a bit of a Mary Sue character, but when she was babysitting Twilight she was cute.

One question, if Chrysalis was forcing Shining Armour to love her, and Cadences' special talent is making ponies fall in love, aren't they as bad as each other? :huh:

No she was supposed to be a unicorn as Lauren designed her, but after Lauren left Hasbro changed her too an alicorn. Hasbro isn't changing her.

She was kind of a Mary Sue (at least, the real Cadance was), but I did like that they actually made her fit into Twilight's background. I just wish that we got to see more of her than we ended up seeing in the Season 2 finale, so we could learn more about her, although from the few Season 3 clips released so far, it looks like that might be the case at the start of Season 3, since it sounds like she's involved with these Crystal ponies in some capacity (maybe she's the ruler of the Crystal ponies!!!). Overall, I like Cadance, even if she was a bit of a Mary Sue, and a deus ex machina. Also, this was adorable...

When i first saw her I was all "Oh no, not another mean pony!" But of course it wasn't the real her. She is so pretty and has a likable personality! Princess Cadence and Shining Armor<3
