A rock crashed through the window to Wits office and landed on the ground at the base of Dens front hoofs. It had a note tied to it that was written on card stock paper. The handwriting was similar to the one given to Den, but it seemed like the writer had bared down on the quill much harder. The note itself was a list of all of their names, but surprisingly, Jack was not on the list.

 

Wits End, Nightfall, Cherry Blossom, Maven, Patches, Den, Sapphire, and one guest. All eight must come, or the game is over. All eight must come within two days or the game is over. No more than the one allowed guest or the game is over.

 

On the back was a crude map that lead to an old mine on the southern outskirts of town.

Sapphires eyes shot wide open and she litterally squeeked. She bounced after her, with her eyes closed, grinning so wide her teeth showed. She also chose that moment to stop talking, trying to memorize what just happend.

 

Den checked into the police station, "Hey, Wits, I interupting something?"

 

Speedy kept walking down the alleys, eventually reaching another dead end. She looked around. She hadn't see any criminals around. She looked back to see if Cherry was still following.

 

Nightfall opened his eyes. Had he fallen asleep again..? He looked around in the room.

SAPPHIRE was indeed still following Speedy, and trying very hard not to watch her plot. Oh, why is it so hard? It's like they have their own gravity. And those thighs could probably break the fourth wall. Ooo, I need to stop staring!" She physically forced herself to look away.

 

((Den and Cherry came in, Cherry quit, and sompony through a brick through the window with a list of names and a map.))

She noticed last second Sapphire looking away.

"What? Is something wrong with me, Sapphire? Please be honest. You know that I care about how I look..."

She herself swung her hips out a bit and looked back at the hip she swung out, trying to see if something was wrong.

Wits nodded sagely. "I can understand. Let me get you the forms. You will get a small bonus for resignation. I'm also increasing Den's pay to compensate for 9 foals." He passed her a pay amount with a significantly higher degree of pay. "Payed for by the Royal Treasury itself, stamped and approved by Princess Celestia. It can't be easy paying for 11 ponies. Get yourself a maid as well, or something." He didn't mention 4 hours of paperwork to get it done. They would sleep easier not knowing.

Her eyes grew really big, "Not s'possed to take peaks, not supposed to look at the behind. But it's overpowering, no!" She covers her eyes with her hooves, and then peaks, "No!" she squeeked, "Mares are supposed to be attracted to colts." Oh god, I didn't just say that! She covered her mouth, which left her eyes open to stare, and she couldn't help it.

Nightfall walked into the room.

"Wits, what's this?"

He didn't want to sound depressed or angry about what was going on. All he heard was something about increasing Den's pay to take care of nine foals. He also had a feeling that something was missing from this police force, as if it had dropped out...

"Wits," den said, picking up the brick, "You're gunna wanna take a look at this," he said, frowning. Why? Why is Patches's name on it? No! No no no no! He's been through enough! Why, Celestia? Why, in all of your wisdom what you put this foal through more? He's already lost most everything? He doesn't NEED to turn out like me, hoof it!

She was blushing when she noticed Sapphire was staring at her plot. And she blushed a bit more when she said that mares should be a tracked to colts.

"Detective, someone just threw a rock in your room." Patches said, pointing at the hole in his window. "I really don't see how you didn't notice that..." he lowered his hoof and pushed some broken glass away.

Wits looked at it. "We're not bringing the kid," he said. "That is final. No compromise, no agreement. The kid will not be harmed. If I need to break Karasu's rules to defeat him, then I will. There is no magical game or enchantment so powerful there is no way to beat it. Gather the team. I need to make some preparations."

 

"Nightfall," Wits said. "Cherry is leaving. I agree with her judgement, and I have facilitated funds outside the police force in order to make it happen."

She slowly walked towards Sapphire.

"And... why are you blushing so much? Is it that hot outside? It's late fall, so..." Wits trailed off ,thinking.

"What do you mean you don't know about yourself?"

She took Sapphire's head and lifted it up with her right hoof. She was still quite red, and had gotten a bit more red when Sapphire mentioned that she had a nice beautiful plot.

Den held his head, "WHY CELESTIA?" he shouted as he ran out of the room, yelling, "I need a coffee."

"Look," Wits said, pointing at both of them. "I appreciate the offer, but despite being 15 and very competent, I will not have a child's blood, no matter how mature on my hooves. I am ordering you, as a high-level police officer, to STAY SAFE. This Karasu guy is just another creep, and we can beat him without playing by his bullshit games, alright?"

Sapphire looked into her eyes and broke down, "I think I might be falling in love with you. Please don't hate me!" She hid her head under Speedy's chest, as if it would protect her from Speedy's imagined hate.

 

Den held his head, "WHY CELESTIA?" he shouted as he ran out of the room, yelling, "I need a coffee."

 

"We'll- I'm- I'm flattered... I honestly don't know how to respond correctly to this, Sapphire..."

Speedy's cheeks were a bright red, yet growing deeper. Actually, she quite enjoyed having Sapphire's head against her chest. And she liked the thought of being paired with a pony who loved her and she could potentially love back...

"Oh, I'm so stupid!" she moaned, "Mares are supposed to love colts. What is wrong with me? But she's soooooo hot! Ohhh, I would trade her for all of my- myiaiai! Mmmmm mmm mm mmmmm!" Shut up shut up shut up! You're mouth is going to ruin any chance you've got! Come on, Sapphire, put your mouth away!

The unicorn looked at Wits coldly. "For someone as intelligent as you, you're really stupid. If you think that you can take down Karasu without playing by his rules, you're a fool. Do you know what he means when he wrote 'all eight must come or the game is over'? He means he's going to start killing, and he won't ever stop, and you won't be able to stop him!"

I will supply everyone with weaponry. Horsefeathers, I'm getting snipers and demolitions experts to rip everything apart. Arcane charged, shredding to pieces everything... that guy won't stand a chance."
