Cherry Blossom frowned at the words "not especially safe"

 

She started feeling tense so she fanned herself with her left wing. "Well I just uh-" Cherry Blossom cut herself off by purposely tripping and falling on her left wing. "Ouch... I think I just broke my left wing, oh well."

 

Den sighed, thinking, Oh her fear is going to be hard to work through. "No worries, Nightfall can pretty much handle whatever problem we come across. Especially with us here to back him up. I need you to steal your nerves, because this place is not especially safe."

 

Nightfall stopped and turned, and saw Cherry. He went back and carefully picked her up and put her on his back, without checking to see if she was really hurt.

"No man left behind, Miss Cherry. Come on... there you go. Come on, now."

He kept going on, almost as if nothing had happened.

Den rolled his eyes and dragged her to her feet. He stared at her for a then told her to take a breath. As soon as she opened her mouth to oblige he snapped her wing back into place. He knew it was painful, but he also knew she'd tripped over her wing on purpose. He sighed, "Courage, Cherry Blossom. It's okay to be scared, but it takes bravery to overcome it."

Nightfall stopped and turned, and saw Cherry. He went back and carefully picked her up and put her on his back, without checking to see if she was really hurt.

"No man left behind, Miss Cherry. Come on... there you go. Come on, now."

He kept going on, almost as if nothing had happened.

 

"Excuse me Captain, could we deal with romantic issues later, and rather instead focus on the GIGANTIC GAPING MAW IN THE FACE OF SPACETIME THAT IS CURRENTLY RELEASING HUNDREDS OF HOSTILE BEINGS AT THE PRESENT?"

 

He was having problems with the portal, and it was starting to show.

Cherry Blossom hoped to be left behind, but unfortunately Nightfall came by and started carrying her. A loud scream filled the sky when Den tried to snap her wing back into place, but in reality, she never really broke her wing at all. Cherry Blossom blacked out after the shock of pain.

"Den, she is your partner.. please take care of her. She is new, after all."

Nightfall trotted over to Wits.

"And what is it that you need that I have? Because I don't have power, or money."

"Not much power, really... I used it killing that demon. Well, ok, so I have power. But how would he use my power?" he thought.

"I can't move," Jack said at the doorway as the others passed him by, "but I'll kick their asses if they try to use this door." This was the closest he had ever been to telling a joke.

 

Butajiri sensed Gama's energy fade the moment that he died. He was the last of his group, but he was confident in knowing he was the strongest.

"Doesn't the police force have a magical power source that they use for situations like this? Theyr'e supposed to be standard because it can be very tricky to deal with multi-dimensional constructs without one. It'll take me a good 15 minutes to do this without one."

Den picked up Cherry Blossom when Nightfall set her down. "Cherry, we need you to be brave," he mumbled. Man she's light for a pony$ What does she eat? I mean, no-pony I've ever know has been this light. Why do I care? He walked on, barely showing any effort. Every now and then he'd check on her.

Wits sighed.

 

"Doesn't the police force have a magical power source that they use for situations like this? Theyr'e supposed to be standard because it can be very tricky to deal with multi-dimensional constructs without one. It'll take me a good 15 minutes to do this without one."

 

"First time something has happened, Wits. We've only really dealt with 'ordinary' criminals. We left everything else to this city's special science division. And like most of the police force, they disappeared. The whole division. What kind of coincidence is that?"

Cherry Blossom was speechless, but of course she was knocked out cold from the unbearable pain. Which had been caused by the unecessary wing being snapped back into its socket. The wing was never even injured in the first place, but Cherry Blossom was still idle.

"The fact that I can still hear you talk about your little science project tells me you aren't taking this seriously!" Jack called from the doorway, "Get moving, slacker! You'll have time to talk when the portal is closed, for now, you have a job to do that you cannot half ass like you usually do."

He visibly relaxed. "Alright. That's done. What now? We need to get to work, and fast. What was your next plan to get rid of the problems?"

 

He looked at Nightfall. He was young, inexperienced, but this was his town, and he couldn't take all of his authority away willy-nilly.

Butajiri tapped the Banshee shriek on the floor with a constant rhythm. He hated this waiting game.

 

Jack was unimpresssed by the roar, "Watch it kid, I can still kill you from here. I wasn't even talking to you, I was talking to the dimwit."

 

(Infinity, I understand why you were confused. But the portal doesn't exist yet, so either way there is no portal.)

 

The asylums intercom turned on and spoke with Butajiris voice. "Welcome, travelers. I trust my doorman gave you no trouble. But you have not come for idle chit chat, you have come to stop my plans. I'm afraid I can't let you do that, but I will give you a hell of a show! Come to the cafeteria on the third floor to get the best seats!"

 

Butajiri signed off of the intercom and waited in the cafeteria.

He visibly relaxed. "Alright. That's done. What now? We need to get to work, and fast. What was your next plan to get rid of the problems?"

He heard the announcement, and looked at Wits.

Butajiri was halfway in his demon form, his horns stuck through his hair and his teeth were sharpened. This was the look that he preferred to have. He found it to be intimidating. He had yet to complete the creation of his portal, though he could at any moment. He wanted an audience first.

"We need a plan," Wits said. "if we don't, we'll have no guidance. But for now, onward and forward.

 

He followed Nightfall up the stars and began to examine his aura, looking for the unique pattern of an alicorn and checking his specifications, strengths, and abilities. He was formidable indeed. He also looked for the source of the latent demonic energies.

When after he checked on Cherry she didn't answer his questions, he guessed what happened. Great way to start a partnership Den. Knock her out by forcing her wing out of her socket. What are you, retarded? You should've felt first. By Celestia! he thought, beating himself up. The first thing he did was put her wing back into place. Then, at the foot of the stairs, tried to wake her up.

Butajiri watched them enter the Cafeteria one at a time. "Good to see that you've all made it. Do not let your success draw false confidence. Gama could have easily killed you all, but his honor kept him from making the kill." there was some truth to what he said, Gama had held back greatly. Butajiri held his fully transformed sword up to Nightfall. "To put that into perspective, I am an entire class above Gama and I do not hold back!" He lowered his sword. "However I have no intentions to fight you. You must see something first."

Butajiri watched them enter the Cafeteria one at a time. "Good to see that you've all made it. Do not let your success draw false confidence. Gama could have easily killed you all, but his honor kept him from making the kill." there was some truth to what he said, Gama had held back greatly. Butajiri held his fully transformed sword up to Nightfall. "To put that into perspective, I am an entire class above Gama and I do not hold back!" He lowered his sword. "However I have no intentions to fight you. You must see something first."

 

"If it has to do with some interdimensional portal, I'm not going to see it. In fact, no one will ever see it. I'm not going to let it be built. So come on. Fight me. You once wanted to. Why not now... a rematch, seeing as I didn't make it long through the first one. Come on, and don't be a coward."

"You have gotten stronger since we last fought." Butajiri commented. He swung The Banshee Shriek to his side. A yellow streak formed in the air, as if he had cut the sky. "Have you seen them yet? The Vale is so weak here that small portals pop up all by themselves! Unfortunately, those portals are not powerful enough to transfer demons." The cut in the air began to open like a squinting eye. "This portal is of a whole different category! Imagine it. Quest class, B class, A class, and S class demons all flooding into your little world. I will be a legend! Oh, mother, tell me the tale of the powerful and handsome swordsman who wiped out the pony race and redefined suffering! Yes it is my favorite story!" He sated his enthusiasm and lowered his sword. "But we have some time before the portal opens. Let us play a game to pass the time. The only way to destroy this portal is to destroy the banshee Shriek. So here is how the game will go, you try to destroy my sword and stay alive as long as you can!"

 

(The Banshee Shriek can't be broken unless Butajiri is weak.)

Wits could see that this man was bound by some sort of honor, either his own or his superiors. He was not. He pulled out his side arm and reared up on his back two legs, a skill that was difficult but useful. He quickly aimed three shots and fired them off, going for the sword.

 

"Motherbuckers," he said. "Have at thee!"

 

((It was kind of unclear, but I'm assuming that Butajiri is next to them.))

(What do you mean by them? The banshee shriek is the name of his sword, I had forgotten that you didn't know that. o3o)

 

Butajiri gracefully stepped out of the way of each shot, displaying the same speed that Gama had shown earlier. He slid to a halt after the barrage was finished. The Banshee Shriek was glowing red, feeding off of the weakness of the vale. Distant howls could be heard from the slowly opening portal.

Wits could feel the energy as well. The air was ripe with energy. If technology wouldn't work, maybe magic would. He set up a shield and began to analyze the aura of Butajiri, looking for a weakness. "I don't know what in Luna's name you are," he growled. "But you are endangering these ponies in this city, and in the NAME OF CELESTIA I WILL HAVE YOUR HEAD!" He shouted in a righteous furor.

"Fellow ponies, this is the end of it all... I do not ask you to stay."

Nightfall began looking around and realized he had left his saddlebag and two pistols back at the station. He groaned, then realized Butajiri was still just standing there.

"Come on, fight!"

He charged at Butajiri, hoping to either let the others get away or to close the portal somehow.

Cherry Blossom woke up with a pain coming from her left wing. "Oh why did I even fake that? I didn't even expect my wing to be pulled out of my socket. Oh you're such a wonderful cop Cherry Blossom; you dummy." she thought to herself as she tried to get up. The pain in her wing was throbbing insanely whenever she tried to move.
