Maven dropped to street level in time to see Nightfall gunning down a bunch of colts with guns. He'd killed them all by the time she got his attention and she sighed, "What happened to innocent until proven guilty?"

 

Den looked at her, at this point very confused. His feelings were a tangled mess inside him; the answer to this next question was important, "Why?"

Wits followed Nightfall. "Look, there is someone causing problems here. And we have to stop these Celestiai-mooned demons before they rip Manehattan a new one. Since you don't seem to have a PLAN for ANYTHING, I'm taking the brunt of the blow." Wits was getting angry at this upstart Captain.

Delphina turned and raised at her eyebrows at Wits, "You are one of four ponies officially trying to save this city through law. You are one of six possibly 7 ponies trying to unofficialy save this town lawfully. We're... Understaffed, put generously."

Cherry Blossom became silent and she didn't have a legitimate answer for him. She landed back onto the concrete and just stared at him while taking off her goggles. "I just can't say anything to him anymore..." she thought as she started to sob a little, but it also seemed she didn't care on the outside.

The unicorn followed magneus closely as they walked to his appartment. Nothing about what was happening made him comfortable. Especially the fact that they were hiding from a few cops with guns. What reason did they have to hide?

 

Jack sat alone in the forest. He thought about the portal, about the Dimwit, and about the city. He realized that if Nightfall had failed, he wouldn't have morned the loss of the city for long. He had cut all ties to it, so why did he help Nightfall protect it?

"Then we need planning more than ever, don't we? If we aren't careful, every single light of justice could be snuffed out. Heck, we don't even have a base of operations, not to mention upholding traffic laws, stopping simple crimes, etc.! Celestia sent me here to save this whole city, but I'm beginning to think its a lost cause!"

He sighed.

"Wits, how are you taking the brunt? When planning wastes time, you must go out and do the things without planning. Delphina is right; because we are understaffed, we must stop crime faster than before. Any sign of guilty that is true, take your chance."

Nightfall was getting irritated. He had plenty more on his mind.

"Besides, we can't plan until we have everyone here, and we don't. If you want to plan, call them. Otherwise, I'll be off searching. Maven, it's your choice or not to follow me. If not, remember the radio."

Nightfall was getting ready to get out.

"Because we are not dealing with isolated incidents! There is a larger force at work here. We can't just stop crimes, we need to kill the root. Villains need to go. Heroes need to be assimilated into the law force. I've seen the reports, you have the funding from Celestia. What we need is someone who isn't playing vigilante all day and is willing to lead from a desk, do the important stuff!"

 

He pointed at Nightfall. "You are a Captain. But you are not acting like you one. You are acting like a panicked little colt who needs to calm down and THINK. THIS. THROUGH."

Den didn't know what he said, "Hey, I'm sorry. Both of you. I'm just a guy, whose lived with guys his whole life." He hugged her as best he could with his injured leg.

 

Maven thought, "If we divided into districts, each having our own, I think we'd be more effected," she said.

"It's good to see that youve all mastered the art of bitching while I was gone." Jack said. He was standing behind Wits and seemed to arrive out of nowhere. "Silly me for assuming you would accomplish something over the last two days. Do you really think the next enemy you face will be as weak as Butajiri? Or were you hoping that was all a dream?"

Cherry Blossom closed her eyes and started shaking when Den came close to her. "Y-You're not made at me?! I-I thought you were about to slap me for a second." She was surprised for a moment, but she also started to cry and returned the hug. "I was afraid you would hate me, but I should be the one who is sorry."

Then Jack appeared.

"Oh, joy. My favorite insulter. Back out now, Jack. We know things are tough."

He didn't really mean back out. He was just frustrated with Wits End. He seemed to have just waltzed in with 'orders from Celestia.'

"Oh look at you, all fancy schmansy. You can't stop all these problems, can you? I don't think you can, and until you do, you are in the same boat as the rest of us, so I just need you to shut up while we figure out what the buck we are doing." He turned to Nightfall. "I'm supposed to work with you wherever possible. I'll follow your lead. I think our first step should be to clear out the police station and set up a system. We should also start recruiting more ponies to the police force. From there, we can decide what needs to be done."

 

He sighed. "Look. What I said was harsh. You probably got landed this job without any idea of what you are doing. I just want to help, and so do you. But there's a reason we have systems in place, and they are to facilitate action. I think we need that, more than anything. We can't fight these forces of chaos without order."

Den fought the urge to cry with her, though he really didn't know why he had this urge. "Hey, don't cry. I'm fine, honest!" Now he had a sudden urge to kiss her that he was fighting. Oh boy, am I confused.

 

Maven face-hooved, "I swear, we get more dissonant by the minute. Anypony for zoning, as it is an organization method that will solve problems, raise their hooves."

"B-But I shot you in the foreleg, doesn't that hurt?" Cherry Blossom asked as she began to stare deeply into his eyes. "I c-can't forgive myself for shooting you Den, I just can't. I don't even know why, if I... If we were irritated at you or not, but you're finally a pony that ever gave me forgiveness or even said sorry to me..."

"What about processing criminals, fines, things that keep the business afloat? Increasing numbers of ponies, house calls that don't turn out to be anything, registering vigilantes, monitoring other aspects, duties as required by the leadership, day-to-day duties? Are you going to pull over a carriage to give a speeding ticket? Are you going to check parking meters? Its far too simple! We need to build the police from the ground up, and it will not be an easy task!"

"Ya, it hurt," Den said, "But you are my partner; I trust you to have my back. And... And..." He turned his back to her, trying to get his emotions under control, then thought, Oh what the heck. He turned around and kissed her, breaking away. He immediately started to apologize, flushing.

Cherry Blossom blushed from the kiss and it seemed to have wiped her memory of what just happened. She seemed to have been lovestruck by Den as her irises turned into fluffy pink hearts. "Oh my goodness Den,b-but it has only been 2 days and you've liked me?..."

He flushed, cheeks turning purple due to the blueness of his fur, "Yes. Even though it's only been two days. You're kind, honest, and generous. You are beautiful and graceful. Sour Blossom... She's a little mean-spirited, but I can understand why. I just... It's just... Complicated?"

Cherry Blossom went close to and just gave him a hug and didn't let go. "I've wanted to tell you that I really liked you too, but deep down, you've stolen my heart." she smiled at him, but she quickly realized they've been wasting valuable time. "D-Don't we have to go and meet up with the others?"

He blushed when she said he'd stolen her heart, but when she mentioned work, he blinked a few times. He couldn't believe he'd actually forgotten about his job. He broke the hug and took his radio, "Captain Night, this is Den, over. Cherry and I were wondering where to report to, over."

 

Sapphire donned her police uniform. She had magically repaired Den's and put it on, and, using the same method she used to teleport brownies to her location, magically teleported a badge to her self and put it on. She grinned to a mirror, said bye to Neil, and skipped off into the streets. Her radio buzzed as Den made his report, and she grinned wider; he sounded happy!

 

Maven sighed, "If we had our own districts, we could make a command center where all of them meet. From there, we could make help-wanted flyers and recruit more ponies. They would then be distributed to districts. We'd start by taking down big, significant crime, and as our forces grew, work our way down."

Wits nodded. "It sounds like a plan, assuming we get the police station taken care of first. But ultimately, its Nightfall's call."

 

He looked at the alicorn. "You have the spark of leadership. You can do this. Just give the commands, and we'll follow. We are your workers."

"All right. I say we do Maven's plan. But the thing is, we can't unrig the police station without blowing it up. Does anypony here have any ideas. on where we can have our main headquarters set up?"

He looked at his gun. He hadn't used too much ammo on the ponies. Maybe Wits was right and his ready fire aim deal wasn't working.

Den's voice crackled over Maven's radio, "*Static* Well, if you ponies are looking for a base, there's an old warehouse near townhall. It shut down because the company that used it went under. How copy?" She flushed, "Uh, I'm still figuring out how to work the radio. At the other end, Den winked at Cherry Blossom.

"We could call in a specialist, but we are supposed to limit the total personnel we borrow from other locations. Problems like this are popping up all over Equestria. If you like, I can make a requistion, and make it urgent, but after that. we're on our own." It had a sense of solemn finality to it.
