Nightfall awoke with a start. The dreams weren't pleasant. He sat up, noticing Maven still next to him. He blinked a coup,e of times, and got out of the bed. He felt extremely fatigued. He didn't want to get up, but something was keeping him up... He thought about Jack's words. He should be training right now, but this state he was in... He felt like he was aging quickly. The responsibility put on him was bearing him down. He walked over to the door and steeped into the hallway quietly. He just sat there against the wall in the hall, thinking about his life and how he would have to tell Maven soon he couldn't keep going; that he was going to have to give up.

Windward trotted down the stairs and down a long hallway towards a guard standing outside the mayors office. Hey You. Your not supposed to be up heGAAH. The guard started gasping for air. There is no point in trying to breath, both your lungs have collapsed... Usually ponies can survive... but in your case its quite severe. It will all be over soon. He said stepping over the guard and opening the door to the mayors office.

"Captain Nightfall is with Maven. He hasn't been in for a while, so Wits is the pony who's been giving orders, bu-ut, if you'd like I could try to get him a message. I have his aurical signature memerized, so I should, hypothetically, be able to teleport to him..."

 

Wits smiled when Sapphire spoke to him. "Thanks," he said. "That means a lot."

 

When the strange pony entered and explained, he walked up. "Nightfall operates as more of the commander at large. If you are looking for an authoritative leader, that would largely be me. How can I help you? What do you know?"

Speedy called to the guard.

"Done over here!"

"The mayor was useless... Of course. I have committed crime before. I just need to get out of here... Maybe I can see if I can get a meeting with the captain or someone in charge..."

Since Speedy hasn't quite been getting it yet, I might just point out that there is now a straight, barely guarded shot between her and the door to the station, and she is called Speedy for a reason.

She stood there for a moment, thinking.

"Hang- hang on, officer. This detective specialist, you say? He's busy? Who cares?"

She shot off towards the door and was able to get by easily. She darted out, and immediately looked around. Finding a room that looked decent from the outside, she burst in on Sapphire, Wits, and the mysterious pony.

"I have information about Karasu, and I need everyone to hear it. Everyone who Karasu has invited. He has invited eight, correct?" He held up a note in Karasus handwriting, similar to the one given to Den. "I suppose you two are one of the eight too, correct? I need all of them here."

"The eight are mostly known, but I am missing the identity of one," Wits said. He looked at Speedy, who had just burst in.

 

"You are the mare who was responsible for the near death of one of my police officers, were you not?" He used a simple magic spell and shut and locked the door.

 

"I will deal with you presently. Currently, I am busy."

"Oh, come on!"

She darted up into the rafters. She thought she could leave now, and she probably could, but something was making her want to talk to this detective. Maybe get a shot at seeing the captain again. Maybe even get another shot at killing him. No, don't kill him. Those two mares would get pissed quickly.

"Do you have any idea Den? I'm not sure where they can be taken care of and nurtured. Plus there aren't any adoption centers or orphanages around here in Manehattan." Cherry Blossom turned her head to the side in sadness. She just wouldn't get over the fact that she killed these ponies.

She didn't want to say the words 'cut a deal,' because she knew police don't like bribes.

I know the ruffians like you have had a free run, but that's over now. The police are coming back, so you are going to need to change your ways. I could offer you a vigilante's licence but not without a show of good faith and a small period with somepony as a mentor."

"Yes, Nightfall is indeed the main authority. However, he usually operates on a proactive level, and I have been left in charge of infrastructure, supplying aid where needed and doing my part. If he ever asks to become the head bureaucrat, I will indeed defer to him. Nightfall has been missing for some time, but I expect him to come back soon, and when this happens, I wlll gladly report everything that has happened. As for your mentor, Captain Nightfall himself would be the preferable option, or maybe Den. As it happens, the recently renewed Magneus is my current partner, and I am too busy personally."

I've made my mistakes, but I've saved more than enough lives to the point where I don't need you questioning my method, or especially my results. I appreciate your help, but until you are ready to join the force, you are no more to me than an civilian to be saved and a source of information, and maybe a potential criminal. So tell me, what do you have to say?"

She got excited quickly, then stopped and blushed severely.

"Oh, sorry... But... Count me in. What do I have to do..? I mean, what do I have to do to help and become a cop..? And- sorry, I'll shut up now..."

She blushed even more. This did make her a bit more cute.

I've known Karasu for as long as you've been alive. Granted that isn't very long. You don't seem to understand how dangerous it is to give a gun to every escaped convict you see. "Look," Wits said, staring down the pony. "I know ponies. I'm actually quite a bit older than I appear. And I've learned to use auras for information, as well as mild gifts of prophecy and whatnot. I can't do everything, I'm nowhere near the level that, say, Twilight Sparkle is, but I can do a lot. I'm trusted by the Princesses themselves, and I have done this lots before. I'm offering her something that fits within her motivation, allows her to continue, with the added benefits of protection, money, and the downright feeling of being a good pony. What more can she ask? Plus, I'll have her with either Nightfall or Den, the most capable ponies on the police force. If I lose, she gets shot a little bit later. If I win we have added a very powerful new ally to our field. Now tell me what you know about Karasu and quit criticizing me without all the information available."
