Tom The Diamond 1,830 September 11, 2012 Share September 11, 2012 (edited) Psht, you whipper-snappers, and your fancy "I arrived first day", boy, lemme tell ya, I was here BEFORE the forums! That's right sonny, back when this all was nothing but a figimentation of imagination. Back then, we only had the 3DSForum's pony thread. It was plagued with trolls, unorganized chaos, but gosh darnit, WE LIKED IT! Why, I remember shortly after when the Synchtube room was created. Lord oh lord, we used to sat in there, watching them new-fangled pony episode (Now know that this was before anyone actually knew how to get a streamamajig to hook up to the synchtube, mind you) at the late of the night, watching DJ Alex S.'s "Pinkie's Lie". Dems were the days. Heck, I remember most of the fellers back in those days too. One of them, I hope ya fellers remember, was Apple Bloom. AB sure has grown in the past year, from 3DSForum Member, to MLPForums Global Mod. Why, I remember, the night we were about to finally see the forums launched, we were all crowded in the synchtube room, about 30 or so of us, all hyped up for Feld0 and Kurtiss's big reveal. My oh me were we all excited. Heck, I remember that they temporarily locked the thread in the MLPForums because everyone just lost their socks with excitement. Well, the hours of the night waned on, and I, much to my own self-loathing, fell asleep. Though I remember waking up, and the very first thing I did, no dilly-dallying, was register on this website. Now, I remember that a lot of us were gonna have Canon pony names as our User Names. Heck, back then, Feld0 was Twilight Sparkle, and Kurtiss was Fluttershy. And Apple Bloom is still Apple Bloom. Now, I believe that several Canon pony names back then were reserved, but I was able to join as Tom The Rock. Later, I would change it to Tom The Diamond, which has since stuck. Now, back in the early days, we only had two admins. Of course, we only had a few members, so posts were slow, topics were slow, and everything was fair game. It was a quiet time, and it was a simple time. Also, Everfree Forest used to be Sugarcube Corner. And Role Playing and Cloudsdale were all just one big Subforum. Looking back on it now, MLPForums has changed. It has changed quite a bit. And not only itself, but also it's members. Now our Synchtube Fridays, which are by far the oldest tradition on the forums, have evolved to show movies, stream the new episodes, it's amazing. And we also have far more sections, advanced role playing, TF2 and Minecraft servers, a badge system. Heck, we even have a gadget that determines how hot and cold a topic is. It's amazing to see how this forum has changed and evolved, with topics rising and falling, members coming and going, and just plain change changing, and I feel truly blessed to have been given the chance to see it do so. : ) ... Anyways, that is your history lesson of MLPForums told by a first hand account. I expect to see a 800 Word Essay on my Front Desk by Friday. Hop to it class. Akemi Homura 7,680 September 20, 2012 Share September 20, 2012 Great! Now if season three started airing on September 29th, the birthday would be even better. On a personal note, I never thought I would join some pony forum and eventually become well known on said Forum, or make tons of new friends over the internet. I can say that the site's really helped me in more ways than one
Steel Matt 250 September 20, 2012 Share September 20, 2012 (edited) Anyways, that is your history lesson of MLPForums told by a first hand account. I expect to see a 800 Word Essay on my Front Desk by Friday. Hop to it class. Life, Liberty, and the beauty of Love and Tolerance Before I begin this 800 word essay or post, you may recognize the title taken from the Declaration of Independence. Of course, the last words were changed from “the pursuit of happiness” to “the beauty of Love and tolerance”. I am sure we have all had our Constitution and Declaration of Independence lectures, both in high school and college. Even if you are outside of the United States, chances are you have heard and read about America’s founding morals and values. However, it was always interesting to people: the fact that the founding fathers worded happiness as something you pursue. So, can happiness ever truly be obtained? Well, that’s what we are going to go into, and it all relates to love and tolerance, with the My Little Pony community as an example. The pursuit of happiness is sometimes confused with the American Dream. The traditional American Dream in short, is to work hard, obtain wealth by working hard, and pass this tradition onto the next generation. However, there are a lot more factors that play into this concept. But the basic idea is the fact that our society has gotten so caught up with big business, obtaining wealth and materialistic possessions…that we may have truly forgotten the things in our lives that make us truly happy. To explain this better, I will tell a short fictional story/hypothetical: -Congratulations! You’ve “made it” by the American Dream standards. You have wealth, you have power, and you can virtually afford many items with a 1 to 5 million dollar salary a year (before taxes). But wait! Now you are a part of the largest tax bracket in existence, sometimes paying more than half of your income on taxes. This upsets you, but you continue to build your own business and Entrepreneur Empire in the hopes of obtaining happiness. You love what you do and you give a lot to charity, but you are still unhappy. You feel like you’ve missed it, and you are not quite sure why. You have money, you have power, you have respect…what else is there? Well, there is love and tolerance. And finally by some miracle overcoming your busy schedule, you find your soul mate! You get married later in life, and have a few kids. However, you are so busy with work it’s hard to spend time with family. One day, you find yourself stopped at a stoplight in a $90,000 SUV and your family is arguing about cell phones, not being able to do what they want, and you are upset. You then notice the car in front of you: A beat up old station wagon that probably wouldn’t be able to sell for more than $800; and there is a full family in the car, windows down, laughing and having a great time after a fishing trip. Then it FINALLY hits you! You realize after chasing your dreams for so long, everything you needed was right in front of you. Now, instead of giving to charity because it “looks good”, you give freely and visit those children in need along with your family. Your family begins to learn what it truly means to be happy: money is nice, but if you let it rule you, it will consume you. Love and happiness is about random acts of kindness that go unnoticed. Happiness is about sharing, caring, and being joyful no matter what the circumstances. Because no matter what you’ve been through in life, and no matter what disability you may face, the only true disability in this life is a bad attitude. Also, with great power comes great responsibility. Lastly, with faith, hope, and love…you can finally find true happiness, no matter what your background, income, or upbringing. You can control your own destiny! And that is one of the messages I believe this show has to offer-So if we bring that story into the My Little Pony community, WHO KNEW! I mean, who knew a television show designed for little girls could bring together a community of boys, girls, men, and women of all ages? Well, that is what has happened and is happening! And we have the entire community, and places like MLPForums to thank for that! Now mind you, the internet is anything but a true human experience. But it’s a great start to real life meet ups, getting to know others, and just plain learning how to not follow the norm or the crowd! Now my quick background: I am not extremely active on the site, but I have gotten to know some amazing people here, and even though it’s online, I can tell by the quality of a lot of posts…that a lot of folks here care about being genuine, and care about helping the world. So to that I say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MLP FORUMS! Let the true pursuit of happiness start with love and tolerance. Although we may always pursue happiness, always remember: if we approach something with a humble heart and a genuine spirit, “with ordinary talents and extraordinary perseverance, ALL things are attainable!” –Sir Thomas Buxton- -STEEL MATT Edited September 20, 2012 by Steel Matt
Nah 3,182 September 21, 2012 Share September 21, 2012 Ah, I remember coming here from Simtropolis, so fresh and new. The forum just looked fantastic at first glance, it was only two months and a day old when I joined, and I was the 608th member here, now there are over 10 times the amount of members here, this website is catching on. I'm honored to be a part of the anniversary, which ironically, happens the day before my mother's birthday. Huzzah the celebrations have been doubled! :D
Envy 6,167 September 21, 2012 Share September 21, 2012 I remember I found out about the forums through Wii U Forums. I was already a MLP fan at the time and had been for five months, so I decided I'd join. I ended up joining a day after the opening because I believe I either didn't have my notification email sent on the right day or I never got one at all and had to find out that the site had opened for myself. That annoyed me. Everything needs more woodwind!

Marshmallow 1,137 September 22, 2012 Share September 22, 2012 (edited) Man the forums are a year old already? Sure doesn't feel like it! I was from the 3DSforums pony thread as well, although I was a bit less active than you (and still am). You were (>^.^)>, right? I was Brown_yoshi. Anyway, now that I look at it, there aren't so many of us, who went through the great migration of the 3DSforums, left now. The forums sure have changed since then, but they're still great. It's fantastic how popular the forums got. I never expected it to grow so big when I joined, a year ago! And yeah, that night when the forums launched was crazy! I had school the next day, but I didn't care, I stayed up until 1 so that I could be among the first ones to claim my username. I remember I was going after the name Rarity. I later realized that it had been reserved so I went with Lady Rarity, which I later dropped for Marshmallow. There's been so many awesome members who came and went and so many memorable events. I doesn't feel like it's been a year, but at the same time there's so much stuff that has happened! God dammnit guys, you got me feeling really nostalgic now! Radiance64 7,053 September 22, 2012 Share September 22, 2012 Wow, almost a year already? On that day I'll have been here for almost 10 months. Anyway, I remember when I started watching MLP, I really loved it and really felt a need to dive into the brony fandom. So, exactly 4 days after I saw the show for the first time I decided to search the net for an mlp forum, and of course this was literally the first thing to turn up. It looked pretty good at the time, so I joined, saying I wanted to learn how to be a 'top-notch brony' here. While I'm not exactly sure if I am 'top-notch,' I do know that everything about this fandom, I learned here, got all my news here(I never used EQD at all until recently), and posted and talked with you awesome people here. Thank you, MLP Forums, for not only giving me a place to talk about MLP, but helping shape me into a full-fledged member of this fandom, and helping me share my passion with many others, and I hope to continue to do so here for a very, very long time. NavelColt 22,880 September 22, 2012 Share September 22, 2012 I've only been here five or so months, but I'd like to think I have a grasp on what it's like around here by now, and that I can fully appreciate this place having been around for a year. Can't wait, and hope more years can be added onto that number.
