Discords punishment was insanely harsh and cruel.

I agree. Discord's punishment was unethical. Sure he made chocolate rain and sure he made eatable landscaping... and sure he created so much chaos that other ponies could have a fun laugh at first... Wait a minute... those things all sound lovely...??? Or am I mistaken.

Fact is he just had a little fun... Okay the concept is that he did make chaos, but a lil chaos once in a while is good 2 get a good laugh. Just look at pinkie, she was happy with the new things... at least at first

In due time those changes would've either made you go nuts or you would adapt 2 it like how humans have adapted to their normal life... Maybe the chaos that was Discord's normal routine of life.

At the very most his punishment should be that he would live in his 'own world' or perhaps a spot in the world where he has complete power over his chaos magic... but the downside is that he doesn't have a pony or another animal accompany him. Cause discord's not a real criminal, he just wants to create chaos and let other ponies 'enjoy' it

Lets look at it this way. If some marauding maniac with a maniacal laugh came in to your town, and turned all your rasberries into raccoons, how happy would you be? Need that in english?

 

Argument 1:

Oh discord isn't a bad guy, he was justified in undermining Celestias power and torturing the Mane 6 because he just wanted to have fun, so he shouldnt have been turned to stone.

 

Argument 2:t Oh the terrorists were justified in flying a plane into the World Trade Centers because they didnt like our way of life, they just felt threatened by the USA, and the US had no right in retaliating.

 

See how that looks? I will give you its a bit extreme, but the arguments are structured the exact same way.

Think about it. What got him stuck in stone in the first place? He ruled Equestria in "an eternal state of unrest and unhappiness", until Celestia and Luna took up the elements against him. And it was specifically stated that the ponies under his rule were unhappy.

 

And then he broke out and tried to do it again.

And when even one of the mane 6 dies, he'll have his chance to escape again.

Personally, I'd like it if he were to have his powers taken away.

He'd still be able to cause some chaos. He'd be like freaking Iago, man.

Yeah, all Discord did was torture ponies for his own personal amusement and take their free will away. What's the big deal with that? Also, I believe you missed the part where Discord is clearly immortal, so being imprisoned for 1000+ years wouldn't be the same to him as it is to you.

You have a point there, but they were dumb kids. Far more clever ponies were also fooled by Trixie.

Well its the fact that he had no intentions of stopping. Where as snips and snails kinda did it on accident. They didn't have plans for turning the world to chaos. And Luna was princes Celestia's sister and she knew she could get her to at least change after being defeated.

Discord on the other hand by nature wanted to cause chaos and he did all kinds of things that if they continued would have destroyed peace in all of equestria. Which is pretty valuable in equestria especially.

Plus its a kids show so he couldn't have died. So I guess stone was the next option that made sense.

 

Ps. Oh and As for the queen of the changlings. She was going to be punished like discord but the mane 6 couldn't get the elements in time.

First off I agree, nothing's wrong with a little chaos. However there is definately something wrong with a lot of chaos, particularly if it is forced on everyone against their will

Second off, how would trapping discord in a world of chaos be a punishment? That's what he actively tries to create. Why don't we punish Pinkie by locking her in willy wonka's chocolate factory next?

Third off, how do you propose that they punish him? He is clearly more powerful than them and able to break them by tapping them on their foreheads. They knew of one way to stop him, nuke him with the elements of harmony and that's what they had to do.

Stone is an acceptable punishment because an ursa minor is a baby not a full grown knowing creature, and Luna came back and got "cleansed". Discord attacked and took over a second time did not change. Therefore Discord got what he deserved

Lolz but it goes both ways. He likes chaos and wants chaos but he wants someone 2 dislike the chaos... Without somepony 2 hate the chaos or having chaos in mind due 2 it, he won't B happy so I still think having a place alone is a good punishment. Same with ure example... Pinkie would at first B happy, but she can't live without friends. In the long run she would come 2 hate the factory without anyone.

Maybe I did overreact a bit, but I'm assuming that he's conscious, if he's unconscious while he's inside the statue, then the punishment is nowhere near as bad, just a really really long sleep.

Punishment in Equestria tends to vary from nothing (if you are real sincere when you say you are sorry) to totally brutal (if you don't). Of course, it is hard to apologize if you have been turned to stone or sent to the moon but they let Discord go as soon as he apologized properly.

Not only that, but he has the power to do these things. He can change the very way gravity and physics work. He can change physical structures. He can pretty much do what ever he pleases, and he uses that power to cause chaos. Nopony like that has any possibility of turning over a new leaf. Realistically, killing Discord would be the most realistic thing to do, because having that kind of power around, that has been used for chaos already, can't result in anything good. But, it's My Little Pony, and killing characters would out of place, and would anger parents, so turning him to stone is the alternative. Besides, was it ever implied he was conscious when he was originally turned to stone?
