Prologue


Normal ponies lived their normal lives in the peaceful and safe kingdom of Equestria. The birds sang beautifully and the wind blew softly, spreading the fragrance of the flowers all across the land. It was a day like any other. Mysterious events were likely to happen though. Places like the Everfree Forest were home of unexplainable activities. But the latest incident was without a doubt the most devastating the pony folk ever experienced.

Blood-colored clouds started spreading all over the Equestrian skies. The Pegasus ponies were unable to move them, and there was absolutely no logical explanation for it. The clouds were a mystery, but no harms to the pony life were shown until that moment. Thus, they decided to leave the dark clouds untouched until deeper and detailed researches were made.

Soon after the arrival of the clouds though, the citizens of the small village of Ponyville experienced something that was believed to be impossible: A recently dead pony came back to life. But the miracle was soon revealed to be a nightmare. The revived corpse was no longer the same. It was violent, attacking and eating cruelly its fellows without reasoning normally. After the monster was finally stopped – taking way more effort than it should – they assumed that it was something ponies called a zombie. An undead, cold-blooded, damned soul acting by instinct. The news spread quickly, and soon the whole Equestria were panicked and horrified by such menace.

After a few days, so many ponies were killed - and turned - by the ghouls and the threat was growing nonstop. It seemed impossible to be contained. Despite all the effort given by both Solar and Lunar guards, the princesses Celestia and Luna had no choice but to declare that the entire kingdom was doomed and every single pony should flee immediately and seek refuge in another lands. Not very long after, the princesses themselves were forced to leave and let Equestria crumble into ruins.

That day entered history as the end of a kingdom, and the rise of a nightmare.

Four months after the outbreak. The wasteland formerly known as Equestria is now home of uncountable zombies. Under the gloomy burgundy skies, hell itself roams freely and hopefully no living and sane creatures reside there anymore. Only hopefully.

A few ponies had refused to leave their homes. They faced the demons and somehow managed to survive until now. Those lucky rebels are scattered all over the kingdom in small groups, struggling for food and safety. No one knows how much longer they will survive. But one thing is for sure: They have to stay together.

 


Night Light’s letter


If you’re reading this letter, I might not be alive anymore. I’ve given my life to research and study the so called zombie outbreak in order to understand what happened and why – as a scientist of Canterlot’s Research Facility, it was nothing more nothing less than my job. I finally reached my limit, thus writing this letter before it’s too late so to give the survivors a chance. Below is a summary of my entire work on the dark clouds and the monsters. I have managed to reach very satisfactory results, and I hope the information to be enough.

The clouds.

I could not find out where those strange clouds came from or how they were formed. But I’ve managed to get to know about their effects upon us.

By looking at some flower petals using a microscope, I was able to identify extremely small particles, similar to pollen but smaller – invisible to bare eyes. There are no records of such type of powder in the books, so I assumed they came from those mysterious clouds. They have a sticky texture: once in contact with another body, it’s very hard to remove. What’s most intriguing – and worrying – about them is what happened when I touched them. Being a unicorn myself, I felt extreme fatigue and weakness after the powder sticked to my hoof. Soon after, I noticed my magic powers significantly exhausted. I’m afraid that by touching that weird substance from the clouds, a unicorn has his or her magic abilities considerably impaired.

What’s more, that powder also has a damaging effect on soft, smooth and light objects like feathers. When those sticky particles came in contact with a feather sample I had, it withered to a point where it no longer seemed to be able to hold a body airborne. I concluded that, when a bird or a pegasus wings are exposed to the substance, their flying capabilities are extremely reduced. I have to admit, those results were astounding.

The zombies.

The Royal guards have nobly provided me with one of those monsters. We imprisoned him in a high-security iron cell at the laboratory and I could brilliantly study the zombie’s behavior and physical capabilities.

First of all, I noticed the beast’s predator instinct: He followed my movements and tried to grab me through the iron bars with hunger in his eyes. He also calmed down when he couldn’t see me anymore, lightly bumping his head against the wall and muttering incomprehensible babbling. Other evident facts were that his body was partly decomposed, his coat was pale, his eyes were blank and he had several wounds around his entire shape. It was, without a doubt, a walking corpse. As for his senses, I noticed he reacted very nicely to sounds showing an enhanced hearing, but his vision was somehow flawed.

About his physical capabilities, I had to involve a few animals to assist me with this part. Luckily he appeared to have the same hunger for the creatures as he had for me. I firstly used a medium-sized sheep: Tied it to a rope, let it inside the cell, let the zombie have a single bite and then tried to pull the sheep back out. For a moment the monster didn’t wanted to let go the animal: he was strong and didn’t get tired at any moment, so the sheep had more injuries than I wanted. Nonetheless, I was still able to notice normal behaviors on the animal, as it struggled and shivered because of the pain only. It passed away later due to blood loss, and it didn’t come back to life as one of them afterwards. So how were ponies being turned into zombies, you ask? Well, my final experiment was the most frightening.

The connection between the clouds and the zombies.

The strange powder that rained down the burgundy clouds is sticky, and any creature exposed in an open area under these clouds is submitted to have this powder, these very small particles glued to his or her body without knowing. That’s when pegasus and unicorns have their abilities weakened, but there’s another very important fact about the powder.

After more experiences involving animals, I discovered that when a creature that has those particles glued to its body dies, the particles begin to slowly absorb all the nutrients from the corpse. But that’s not all: after a few minutes, the body comes back to life as a zombie. I simply cannot explain why, but that’s how a living creature is turned into one of them: because of the powder that is raining from the strange clouds. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that, at this point, we all are already covered by this powder without knowing. It is so small and so many that it’s practically impossible to avoid. I don't want to sound negative, but the ponykind as we know may be doomed.

How to stop the monster.

After finishing my studies, I had no longer use for the zombie sample. I decided to get rid of him so to see if zombies were as hard to kill as the stories says. Turns out they were.

Took roughly seven pistol bullets for me to notice that they had absolutely no effect on the monster – he was already dead after all. After that experiment, a single bullet to the skull ended him. So if you’re going to fight those things, keep that in mind: Destroy the brain. That may be the only way to stop them.

With this last piece of information, I end this letter and leave my farewell. I salute the brave ponies that fought those demons and tried to save its fellows. I also leave my condolences for the land and the ponies I love. May we all find a better place to live, in this life or another.

Rules and Important Notes
  • No god-modding and overpowered characters;
  • No flawless characters (Mary & Gary Sues);
  • No Alicorns;
  • Active, detailed and comprehensible posts;
  • Despite this being a horror, zombie-themed RP, it won't be completely focused on the action, but more on the relation between the characters (survivors);
  • Due to the last point above, romance, rivalry, pairing up and fights are allowed;
  • This RP may become popular, but I don't want it to be very huge. So I'll probably be closing it after roughly six or seven entries;
  • English is not my first language, so here's a sorry in advance for the possible grammar errors;
  • You can wield small weapons, but keep in mind that guns have limited ammo and its noise attracts more zombies;
  • Please, read Night Light's letter above for all the information about the threats/menaces and the unicorns and pegasus restrictions;
  • You can use canon characters if you want;
  • If you change your username during the RP, please contact me so I can update the player list;

I'm a pretty active member myself, but I prefer it to be slow-paced. That way we don't confuse anyone. But it highly depends on each of the players' free time.

Hey every pony... I know I haven't posted a lot in the rp so I don't know if this will matter much but I think I'm going to have to drop out... What with school and other irl things I can't keep up with it... sorry. you can have my character killed of in some way but make it cool :)
