What if Discord was the one who corrupted Luna?

Here's how I see this idea working well into a possible episode; prior to his overthrow by the sisters, Discord foresore his upcoming defeat (he's a god, so it's not far fetched to assume he can do that) and so decided to try and corrupt Luna to prevent it. Whilst he failed initially, he managed to spark a slow corruption within her that, as time passed with Discord defeated, it would slowly eat away at her, eventually turning her into Nightmare Moon,

 

I imagine that in Return of Harmony, when offscreen, Discord could have been catching up on all he had missed and during that time, found out about the Nightmare Moon issue. He most likely reveled in it and was debating with himself whether or not to tell Celestia just yet about his hand in it when the Mane Six defeated him.

 

I for one would personally love this kind of scene to be used when Discord finally reveals in his inevitable future appearance about what he did; 5:17 - 6:54

 

 

Edit: Hey, um, some of you are saying about how he can't corrupt if he's been stoned. Yes, but I'm talking about him doing this BEFORE he got stoned the first time by the sisters, and that whilst at first it didn't work, it began to slowyl devour Luna. So then, say some years after Discord's defeat, the corruption fully took affect and she became Night Mare Moon. This is just to clarify in case some misunderstood.

I'm not sure how he could've done that, considering he was a stone for quite a while. Besides, I'm sure a lot of people would be very angry if they were sent to the moon for like, 1000 years.

I do like this idea. It would tie the entire story together very very well. (Even though it's all tied together well.) It would tie it to the first episode, and would probably give us some insight on the history of Discord.

This is a very popular concept in fan art that I've seen throughout DeviantART on multiple occasions, and I'm glad someone's brought it to light. Unfortunately, it doesn't agree with me personally, because in my own head canon, Luna and Celestia defeated Discord before either of them took on any sort of role in raising or lowering the sun or moon, or acting as rulers. Thusly, Discord wouldn't have had any deep, dark envy to use to corrupt Luna to Nightmare Moon back then.

 

But that's only because of the order of my own head canon xP It's certainly a plausible idea.

Anyway...I'm not sure this would happen. Luna and Celestia defeated Discord when they were Princess's that weren't rulers, thus, when Discord was in stone he should take the blame on the parents. I don't know where I'm going with this.

They say in the show that Luna and Celestia had to both imprison him, I don't see why Celestia would need to lie about that.

I always thought that Discord or some other evil infected Luna in someway to turn her into Nightmare Moon. Not sure how he would do it, but still it could work.

Hate to break it to you, but this isn't the case. When Discort corrupted the mane 6, their color was desaturated. Nightmare Moon is the same color as Luna. Interesting theory, though.

Its possible yet it doesnt seem possible because Celestia and Luna were connected to thier Elements at the time and when they Stoned Discord all of his magic vanished.

I can see where you're going wiith this but with what Forlong pointed out whenever Discord corrupts somepony their bodies become less saturated and greyed out.

 

Now obviously Nightmare Moon wasnt grey at all so eithier shes an exception, lack of consistancy (because Discord was not heard of the time)

Or she turned evil because of her own dark nature

Actually I could see this -- consider:

 

Discord wasn't powerful enough to really do what he wanted to Celestia. Celestia cared for her younger sister. Her younger sister is the weak link in the chain. If Discord could hurt Luna, it would bubble back up to Celestia. Hence yes, adding a festering problem to Luna might be a thought for Discord.
