For those who don't know:

Asura's Wrath(アスラズ ラース Asurazu Rāsu?) is an upcoming actionvideo game collaboration[1] between CyberConnect2 and Capcom that was first announced at the Tokyo Game Show in 2010.[2] It is currently in development to be released in Japan and North America for the Xbox 360 andPlayStation 3. It will be released on February 21, 2012 in North America and February 24, 2012 in Europe.[citation needed]

Asura's Wrath will be taking Asian Mythology and be mixing it with science-fiction to create this world.

I must say first and foremost that I don't think the demo is really showing us all the game has to offer. At first it makes it look like one giant QTE-fest with a few on-rails shooting segments and nothing else but it quickly shows that there's more to the gameplay than that in the second chapter which means, even though all we did was fight bosses, that there's a distinct possibility of actual fighting levels. It's gonna be an all-out brawl throughout the game regardless though.

Basically, everything I said is what the demo is: QTE-fests with some on-rails shooting while Asura runs alongside the gigantic boss and then another fight with Asura's Mentor which is more of the brawling gameplay where you actually fight him.

Aside from the QTE segments it has a function called "Burst" where when a meter builds up (whether through successful QTEs or just brawling it out) you press R2/RT to unleash a special event attack.

Quite honestly though, I don't know how you can fight such gargantuan creatures (no seriously, the first part of the demo has the guy turning into a massive god that is bigger than the Earth itself and crushes you with his finger) without QTEs without making it look cheap.

The focus of this game will obviously be the flash and the story rather than deep and thoughtful gameplay so if you are looking for something with an epic story this game will be amazing, if you want more deep gameplay it probably won't fit your needs as well.

It will be an epic game, for sure, but depending on what kind of gamer you are it may fall short simply because of the fact that it obviously doesn't focus on gameplay. I might go so far to say that this might have been better done as an anime or movie rather than a game but let's not detract from the fact that it is a game.

This is the debut trailer from TGS 2010:

I love games where you can take down something thats much bigger than you. Its a great feeling, and thats why i loved games like God Of War (the first one anyway, found the others a tad bit tedious...) and Shadow Of Colosus.

So, when i saw the boss that was 'bigger than the earth', i think its safe to say it got my attention. Watching some of the videos and looking at some news for the game, its now the game im most looking foward to this year! Its not just the bosses either, the story seemes awesome, the gameplay looks solid, and he has six arms!

That means 6 fists! And yhea, i know that the charaters are based of asian mythology, but thats really something i dont know much about. Maybe i can actualy learn something from this punch fest of a game?

Usually in this case you can learn names but not the actual mythology behind them, just maybe some characteristics. It might inspire you to look them up though.

I don't know too much about them myself but I know Asura/Ashura's name.

  • 1 year later...

in my opinion, it's a scam the fact that they sell by DLC the final chapters. it would be ok if it just were the lost chapters, after all, they're fanservice crossover with street  fighter, BUT THE ACTUAL ENDING OF AW? fuck you Capcom. It's too bad, since the game, while it's more of an interactive anime, it's pure visual porn, and the battles are freaking epic
