3005 332 October 21, 2012 Share October 21, 2012 There are certain characters from works of fiction that seem to be more recognizable than the series the belong to. Those types of characters include James Bond, Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes... Can you think of any others? What is it about these characters that makes them so... famous? Twilight Circuits 603 October 21, 2012 Share October 21, 2012 (edited) What makes them so famous I think is simply that we have a form of emotional identification with the character portrayed. Based upon not only emotional areas of our mind it is also related to what emotions we use when imagine what life would be like if we were that character. But since we are not in fact the character, the range of emotions we feel can only be base upon the emotions we felt which is also based upon the memories we have built up over our lifetime. That is why technically speaking, older people seem alot more wiser as they understand emotion but from everything i've seen that will be highly speculated. If I were to user MLP as an example: Twilight Sparkle - Organisation, leadership, desire to do magic Fluttershy - i used to be real shy. Still can be at times Rarity - the ability to design and create Rainbow - tough times call for tough love AppleJack - I've long since learned an honest heart goes a long long way Pinky Pie - zen Edited October 21, 2012 by TwilightCircuits For I have saved your soul in the heavens, and now save it on the ground. - TwilighCelunaCircuits

Movies, books, TV shows... even alternate egos in music. For example, Slim Shady... or even the constant use of the word/person "Shawty."

Jokuc 8,173 October 21, 2012 Share October 21, 2012 (edited) Ughh Well iconic characters.. They are probably iconic because the movies are famous, or because they have something special with them. I could post a list of 500+ famous characters but I'd take way too long. Since it's soon Halloween I'll put some famous horror characters here: Norman Bates from Psycho (1960) Because he was in the first famous slasher horror. Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) Because the movie got so famous and he has... The CLAWS. Jason Voorhees from Friday The 13th (1980) Because he has that hockey mask. Pinhead from Hellraiser (1987) Because he got those things in his head. Dr. Hannibal Lecter from The Silence of the Lambs (1991) Because he is creepy and Anthony is such a good actor. Chucky from Child's Play (1988) Because dolls are creepy. Ghostface from Scream (1996) Because that mask is famous everywhere, not only in the movies. Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) Because well.. He has a face of leather, kills with a chainsaw and this movie is beyond famous. Regan MacNeil from The Exorcist (1973) Well.. This movie is also beyond famous and the character is so famous people who dont even know the movie knows her. Frankenstein's Monster from [All different movies] I don't know what started it but he's probably so famous because it's a classic movie. http://i.imgur.com/DeNZ0.png Dracula from [All different movies] Same as above. Jigsaw's doll from Saw (2004) As already said, dolls are creepy. Oh I almost forgot. IT Because it made people scared of clowns. SrFrog 927 October 21, 2012 Share October 21, 2012 Can't forget about The Joker, Heath Ledger's portrayal to be more specific. You could even say both the actor and character have transcended the derivative work, more than the titular character of the series. I used to be a stranger 7,993 October 21, 2012 Share October 21, 2012 Why is Darth Vader such a great character? I mean besides the iconography of himself. An identifiable shape, tone, colour and sound which makes him instantly recognizable in any weather, yes, but what about him makes us so attracted to him as a villain?
