gaming Anyone Else Play Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World?

I just finished it with the good ending, after playing through the original right before it. You know, I've gotta say, I liked the story in this one a little better than the first. I don't know, I just seemed more touched by it. Maybe because all-in-all it was a more personal story, so I cared a bit more about the characters. It was also a bit more down to earth, with a more quaint story. I really liked that; I didn't feel as overwhelmed and at a loss of control as I did in the first. Sure, it was still dealing with world-ending issues, but it felt more personal. I didn't feel as disconnected from the whole situation. Overall, I liked it more.

Oh, and the graphics, the events, and the battle system were all naturally a lot better, seeing as it's a lot newer. That may have helped pull me into the story more.

Also, the skits... Do I even need to say more? They were hilarious.

One more thing, the new voice actors replacing the ones from the first game. Lloyd's was atrocious, as was Genis'. The others were a lot less jarring, though. At least Collette had her original. And Tara Strong also came back to voice Presea. But still...

I played it when it first came out, but in my personal opinion, it wasn't nearly as good as the first. I found that the first one had better characters with better personality ( I prefer a dim Lloyd over a wimpy Emil)  and I thought that there were more choices than there were in the second game. Also I didn't really enjoy the whole "monsters are your ally" bit  and the voice acting. I will agree with your points about the skits, battle system and graphics, but I still found that I was able to play the first game many times but I only played the second game once.

Check me out! No, seriously, check me out.

I haven't played the Wii title yet. For some reason this one is hard for me to find. I checked GameStop, FYE, a lesser (but totally better) local store, and other stores used game sections and can't seem to locate it.

Guess I'd have to buy it online somewhere. Oh well.

I did play the original GameCube game and loved it. Though like most games I played I never owned it or probably never finished it. Both Symphonia games are high on my priority list for must buy games.

As for my opinion on the sequel, well I don't have an official opinion having not played it, but I think it sounds pretty nice. I like that the story is smaller. I don't get the mindsets of some people who think that a sequel has to be bigger than what came before it. When it comes to story, bigger is NOT always better. In fact sometimes smaller can even be better. The only problem I have with it is that its on the Wii and just personally I don't like playing games on the Wii because mine's old and abused by my sisters so it has issues and is probably near exploding if you heard it run! :P Kinda wish it was on a different platform, but oh well I'll just have to deal with it.

While I do agree that the first had more characters that were better, I think that with the lower budget with the second one, they did a great job. I finished re-playing the first one last Thursday, and started this one on Friday. I was playing with horribly overpowered characters this time around, new game+ and all that. I really do like Marta and Emil though, in my opinion they were great characters.

In the first one, you didn't have to atone for that much for what you did. I think that made me personally feel a bit disconnected from the story. I don't know how to properly explain it, but I didn't feel as connected for some reason or another. I guess the first was an overall better game, but I really like the turn the second one took in the last 3 chapters. It started off really slow, and continued that way for a while. But once we solved the Lloyd mystery, things took a drastic turn for the plot twists. But I digress, the first one had an overall more interesting story, but had a weaker ending than the second one. I'll leave it at that, as I still can't properly explain how I feel.

OH YEAH! I remember that game. I played both the first one, and the sequel on the Wii. They were both quite good.

I like the sequel more than the original. But then again, I played the sequel before I played the original. So that might have something to do with it.
