Just occured to me why they made Celestia a monarch

There isn't a female president in the US and it would be demoralizing to the little girls who grew up watching MLP:FIM if there still isn't one in the future had they made Celestia a democratically elected president.I could just be overthinking it and it's possible that princesses appeals more to little girls than presidents.

Its probably more princesses appeal to little girls more then a prince or king. Plus it would be weird if there was a male ruler when all the main characters are female.

Actually, it could just be because the type of governments many places actually have would be much more confusing to the younger viewers. Monarchy is the most simple besides a dictatorship, but why would they have a dictatorship in a show like MLP FiM?

That's exactly what I been wondering and why I made this thread, it just seems so strange that a show for little girls promotes monarchies and dictatorships.

I highly doubt that they made Celestia the ruler because of little girls' unlikely dreams of becoming a president. I am pretty sure it was "fairy tale, princessessess" first, "girl president" second. But I dunno, both seem to be legitimate to me.

I think you're on to something there, monarchies are pretty easy to understand. And I'm sure the cliché princess tales told to young girls have something to do with it.

I heard that they made Celestia a princess cuz they wanted a monarchy and queens don't have as good press as princesses. Look at all the fairy tales with an evil queen.

It's probably because little kids just like the whole princess thing better.  It could also be that the others were too confusing for the younger kids.

It has to do with the world type being one inspired by mythical tales (e.g., Greek mythology, King Arthur's Court) than anything else. I believe Lauren Faust made mention of Celestia originally being a queen, but Hasbro got antsy due to the association of queens with evil in fairytale settings; thus she is a princess.

 

If anything Celestia is intended to inspire young girls. This is not so much a juxtaposition with men (i.e., portraying male leaders as irrational warmongers while female leaders are fair and loving) but rather part of the broader theme of female empowerment Lauren sought to emphasize.
