Nim 28 January 9, 2013 Share January 9, 2013 So I don't think i've posted here since early 2012 or late 2011, so I thought I'd take the time to make some posts and such. Anyway, onto what this thread is about. Are there any Devil May Cry fans here? I've been a fan for a about a month or two now, and i've played the original three games in that time span. I plan to play 4 if I get the chance. Anyway, even though I'm quite new to the DMC fandom I am as angry as any other fan of the original games that Capcom decided to release a reboot with Ninja Theory. I don't think the game needed a reboot, but i want others opinions on it too. Any other fans are free to talk about DmC or the old games, characters, post fan-art and whatever the heck you want. I'm interested to see what you guys have to say, thanks for reading! 1 Bonds of people are true power
An Old Head 4,816 January 9, 2013 Share January 9, 2013 I played Devil May Cry 3 quite a while ago on the PS2. I thought it was pretty fun (even though it's cheap, Trickster for the win) but also nightmarishly difficult. Apparently they released a whole new version just to turn the difficulty down. I did manage to complete the game, but boy did it take long.It sort of discouraged me from getting the other DMC games... are they that hard? I've rage quit several times playing the first DMC, and I was only playing on Normal! I got the HD collection, so I just skipped to Three after several rage quit sessions. From 3, I learned how to play and my newfound skills made it easier for me to get through One, but it was still quite difficult. Would you recommend one of the other three games over the others? I'd definitely recommend One. If i had to be honest, it's probably the hardest game in the series but it's worth playing even if you constantly rage quite. 2 is considered the black sheep of the series, so play that if you want to but I haven't tried it yet. As for 4, I haven't played it yet but it looks enjoyable and I can't wait to try it out myself. 1 Bonds of people are true power
Mephala 2,633 January 9, 2013 Share January 9, 2013 I remember all those years back when DMC4 and the only reason I played it was because at the time I thought Nero was hot. Dante looks (to me) like a fat blonde peodphile, as I have stated many times before to various people. HE JUST DOES, OKAY? I never loved them, and the trailer for the new one looks very meh to me. PonyEcho 1,610 January 9, 2013 Share January 9, 2013 i'm a huge Devil May Cry fan ,i've played them all and the only one i don't like that much is 2 (for the obvious reasons that i was not good) i'm also a fan of the anime series too 1) is awesome thos when i played the HD remake..... its game play is the only thing thats aged well 2) I don't like because it allot shorter and you can basically plow though it using only your gun (but the motion of the game is just so damn awesome ) 3) do i even have to point out how good this game is 4) is my personal fav because of how great it feels despite the fact half way though you play the stages backwards as dante the new DMC however, i hate for the fact it butchers everything from the combat to the character of Dante and Virgil my DA http://heavyecho.deviantart.com/ check my stuff out the Anime Club http://mlpforums.com/topic/48196-the-anime-club/ plz join us
Middnight Snack 24 January 10, 2013 Share January 10, 2013 I love devil may cry, even though I don't know much about the character development. My first one was 3, then 4. I really wish I had the first one so I could understand the story, other than that, one of my favorite action games. Discordian 6,015 January 10, 2013 Share January 10, 2013 I played 3 and 4 before the others though partially because when I bought the first DMC it didn't work and by the time I tried it out it was way past the timeframe I could take it back for. I recently got the DMC HD Collection for 360 so now I'm playing the first one for the first time. I'm honestly quite surprised at how many green orbs you get in the first DMC compared to 3 and 4. It's making the game quite easy in comparison. I played the demo for the upcoming DmC and thought that was rather amazing actually. The gameplay is really smooth, especially once your hands get used to the angelic and demon mechanics. I thought Limbo had a lot of style to it and I love the way the level morphed itself as you went through it, those are my favorite kinds of levels when I'm platforming. I also loved the lost souls thing. It's definitely different than the giant red soul gems you find in 3 and 4 and I actually think it fits far better with the story to use this lost souls thing. Definitely can't wait to play the new DmC. I have it preordered and I'm gonna pick it up when I get paid next Friday. The story is actually quite, eh, messed up. I've never been quite clear on this but is the new DmC a reboot or just another prequel? It seems a bit hard to tell and all of the footage I've seen suggests that it's very possible it took place before DMC3 and will explain what happened between Vergil and Dante so that they seemed to be on such opposing ends during DMC3. Just some guy 1,070 January 10, 2013 Share January 10, 2013 Eh,I didn't like 1 or 2 much.I was too used to the combat in 3 and 4,plus Bayonetta as well,so it was hard for me to get used to the camera angles in those games. That, and DMC2 was nightmarish in the combat department.I actually stopped playing after an hour or so because it was so bad for me. :v Definitely can't wait for DmC though.Combat feels smoother than the older games and Dante doesn't look as ridiculous as he used to in 3 and 4.Not as classy as his 1 and 2 looks, but infinitely better than wearing a leather-strap bra/cowboy boots and numerous belts with Yin-Yang belt buckles. The anime has little to do with the actual story, it just takes place between 1 and 4. However the manga is very relevant to DMC3. As for the reboot, it's not canon. It's not even being developed by Capcom, but by a company called Ninja Theory. It's most definitely a reboot, and if you ask me it looks horrid. Oh trust me, I know who it's made by but Capcom was looking over Ninja Theory's shoulder throughout most of the development so even if they weren't directly developing it they were still heavy in the decision-making processes. That's why I question whether it's canon or not because unless it's explicitly been said otherwise this could be the original story of the series (assuming the manga doesn't already do that) Have you played the demo for DmC yet? It actually has the smoothest gameplay of the series imo and it has even more style than any of the other games.

Not only does it ruin my original perception of the games and the characters, but it makes me mad because the game didn't even need a reboot. The game will probably flop most likely, as a lot of the original fans certainly don't like it. It may be smooth, but it's not what people seem to want or love compared to the way things used to be. I'm not feeling it, honestly. I've never particularly felt like the DMC games were really that hard anyway (at least on Normal, never played anything higher) My experience with the demo showed me it'd be an amazing game. Different? Yes. Series' change like that. But that's not gonna make it any less awesome for being what it is. I'm of the opinion that a game doesn't need to stick to any type of formula just because it's within the same series to be a good game. I honestly get really annoyed when I hear things like "it may be a good game but it won't be a good x series game" that's like saying a burger is good but it's not a Red Robin burger so it's not good enough. I guess so. DMC games normally are particularly hard depending on the difficulty. My friend suggested i start on easy because i rage quit on like, mission 3 of DMC1 because i kept dying. It was only the first boss, too! It was on normal. DMC1 I think could be considered the hardest game in the series, 2 the easiest because of how bad capcom did with 2. I played for about 3 missions and dropped it. Bonds of people are true power

I've actually always heard DMC3 was the hardest and with my experience of DMC1 so far I agree. Part of it is the fact that enemies drop WAY more green orbs than in 3 and the enemies are a lot dumber in 1 too. I generally do the multi-stabbing technique to take out most puppets. If I remember right the boss of mission 3 was Phantom, correct? The giant lava-infused scorpion? He can be a bit tough if you aren't careful, yeah. Definitely took me off guard. It was a spike from how easy the game was up to that point. He can actually be attacked from on top though so keep that in mind. (Says so in his enemy profile) I suppose part of it is that I'm just such a natural at hack'n'slashes and DMC has one of the smoothest combat in most games I've ever played. (Only really beaten out by Kingdom Hearts) I hear the guns in DMC2 are FAR more powerful. In the first one Ebony and Ivory are just as weak as in 3 but that grenade launcher in 1 is amazing. I find myself firing it at everything. I don't think the guns have been near as useful in the series since though.

Shotty and Artemis were very useful in DMC3 if you used Gunslinger. It was easy to take out whole rooms using those beastly weapons. @_@ Though I admit,I found myself using Ebony and Ivory more than I did in the other games in the DmC demo because of Ricoshot being useful for juggling enemies. The guns were the worst in DMC4 IMO,only Nero could really make use of his gun because of his DT being able to fire extra projectiles with his gun.Other than that, all of Dante's guns and Nero's gun were useless in that game. Also,if KH is the smoothest gameplay you've ever had,you need to play Bayonetta. It's pratically seamless once you get used to the combat system and start getting the fun weapons. Well I'll give you those two, they were pretty useful in a pinch but unlike in the first DMC none of the guns could obliterate enemies for you. As for DMC4 I kind of agree that they weren't particularly useful except for a select few. I rather liked the Pandora's Box that Dante got though. It was fun to use at least and sometimes it's missiles could finish off an enemy or at least spread out a group of enemies. I definitely do need to get Bayonetta still. I actually changed my name on the forum to Raronetta (Rarity + Bayonetta) for a long time because I vowed to get Bayonetta before I changed back to Discordian but I never ended up getting it and switched back to my original username when I came back about a month ago. I need to get it soon while I can though, especially since Bayonetta 2 is coming. I don't have a Wii-U yet but I've got plans to get one.

Discordian 6,015 January 10, 2013 Share January 10, 2013 I don't personally play games for difficulty. I play on Normal at all times, never ever on higher modes unless I REALLY REALLY like the game like Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 which I've beaten on Proud. Note that there is a difference between not playing FOR difficulty and not liking difficulty. I don't care what the difficulty of a game is, I'll play it, but I won't purposefully play on higher difficulties just for challenge. That doesn't interest me at all. I beat One on Normal just a few days ago, actually. I do agree with you that the enemies are easier, but the bosses are far more challenging. Phantom, Griffon, Nelo Angelo, and Mundus. In the final boss battle of the game, I came in with at least 10 gold orbs. In only his first form, Mundus wiped out nearly all of them. When I finally got his first form down, I was left with two gold orbs and had to fight his second form. It was a tad easier, but i managed to beat him without dying. Eeeeeeh, I had more trouble with Cerberus in DMC3 than anything so far in DMC as far as bosses go. I'm on mission 17 or 18 now and overall this game hasn't been all that hard. Gryphon was annoying, to be sure, but overall not that hard. It was particularly hard because I was using the Demonic Beta (or whatever it was called) and didn't realize it took away my Devil Trigger when I used it so it made my first try with Gryphon the final time harder than it needed to be. Switched back to my trusty grenade launcher right after that. Edited January 10, 2013 by Discordian

Discordian 6,015 January 10, 2013 Share January 10, 2013 I'll have to keep that in mind. Is it like DMC3 and 4 where the final mission is just the final boss fight? If so I wouldn't waste Gold Orbs on the first form at all if I can help it. My least favorite fight in DMC3 is either the one with Lady's father after he transforms into that thing or the two sword brothers. I ALWAYS die to the sword bros like crazy. Hopefully now that I've played 3, 4 and then 1 and 2 when I get back to 3 it'll be a tad easier. I played the Special Edition of 3 so I didn't have to restart the missions every time I died but I think I could do that now.
