Eve was visibly disappointed. More at the fact he had backed off than anything else. "Why be sorry?" She asked quietly, but not timidly. She simply floated there, allowing the fish in the pool to nip playfully at her tail. For at the moment, her eyes had nowhere to go except to Nighfall...

 

"I just... um..."

His blush got worse.

"I was just... I thought I was..."

He couldn't find a way to say something. Again, he found himself slowly drifting towards Evergreen. What he didn't know is that it was with help from a couple of the fish.

"I thought- personal space- and then..."

His blush was very visible as he got easily within hoof's reach of Evergreen.

Eve closed her eyes for a moment, thinking. When she opened them again, Nightfall was quite as close to her as he had been before retreating. She peered into the water, curiously, and indeed, the fish were trying to help. She smiled faintly at them before looking back to Nightfall. "I don't really mind," she said, almost even surprising herself.

"I dont know what I want right now"

"You can, I know you can. I dont spend my time defending you so you can bust things up"

He turned around to face Star, to see she was already on her way over. He lowered his head and his ears, looking up at her apologetically. He didn't say anything however, either through fear of her reaction, or fear of his. He wasn't quite sure which. 

Star Rain lowered herself down to Dusk's level and made eye contact with him. "Dusk, it isn't your fault. Seriously, it isn't," she said in an attempt to calm down the timid, dark blue earth pony. "Is there anypony else with you?" she asked quizzically, having heard a deep voice that didn't belong to the Dusk she knew.

Eve closed her eyes for a moment, thinking. When she opened them again, Nightfall was quite as close to her as he had been before retreating. She peered into the water, curiously, and indeed, the fish were trying to help. She smiled faintly at them before looking back to Nightfall. "I don't really mind," she said, almost even surprising herself.

 

"I thought you might... But... so, um..."

He blushed. And he soon moved a bit closer himself, until all he had to do was lean forward and kiss her.

"Just do it!"

And he did lean forward, waiting to see if she would do the same, or back off, completely disgusted at his attempt.

Dusk felt like crying, he knew he had to tell her now, but he really didn't want to. If I tell her, she's going to be freaked out and run away... he thought..."I...n-no. W-what do you mean? There was L-Leaf here a second ago, but he just left." Dusk stammered, not quite being able to look Star in the eye as he spoke.

Eve sat there, rather surprised that he would just go for the kiss, when he had sounded so very hesitant mere moments before. But surprise is not equivalent to displeasure. With a little nudge forward from the fish, she met him halfway, her lips meeting his.

 

One of the fish leapt out of the water right next to them and emitted a noise that sounded awfully like a wolf whistle, landing back in the water without splashing either of them.

 

He was almost surprised she would kiss him back. But he couldn't deny that he liked it. After all the stress in his life... He broke the kiss after only a minute. But the minute had seemed like a lifetime to him. He blushed a bit, and couldn't think of anything to say.

She wasn't quite sure what to make of their kiss - he had seemed awfully desperate and overly enthusiastic with it - but she held her tongue, thinking to, for the moment, reserve judgement. She didn't know what to say, but the fish had returned to almost tease her about what had just transpired. "Um... Mind if we get out of the pool for a little while?"

"But Leaf doesn't talk with that deep of a voice, does he?" Star Rain asked. She kept her look of reassurance on as she kept looking at Dusk. "No matter what it is your secret is, I won't run or anything. Promise from the bottom of my heart," she said, with the hint of a plea in her voice.

He stood there for a second, with an extremely worried look on his face. He finally managed to meet her eyes, and after standing in silence for a moment longer he turned away. "I'm sorry...I should have told you but..." he looked confused for a minute, as if he was unsure where he was going with that sentence "It wasn't me, in the maze...that threatened to b-..." he stopped himself from saying the word, in case the rest of the garden reacted the same way as the hedge "It wasn't me who made that threat" he wasn't exactly sure how to tell her, so what he had planned was either going to go one of two ways.

Scamps entwined her tail with Somber's. "Do you want to head over to the banquet table now? A lot of ponies are probably there. An dwe could get some food...." She added, looking down at her growling stomach. "Unless....I mean, if you have a better idea, I'm open to anything roght now...." She then got close to him, holdung his hoove. "As long as I'm with you."

Leaf had got back to the Meadows when he realized that Silver disappeared. "I think she went looking for me in that maze to investigate that noise..." he thought. Leaf then flew back to the entrance, trying not to cheat by flying to the exit.

" Leaf?! Where are you?!" She screamed as loud as she could but she maze just wouldn't let her through. " please please please let me go" she whispered " I have to find Leaf" and then the maze groaned and opened. Silver looked around and saw Leaf standing right at the entrance. "Leaf!" Silver ran to him and hugged him. "I am so glad you're okay"

Star Rain's eyes widened and her horn almost glowed to fire a magical blast at whatever the source of that unfamiliar tone was. Still, she remembered that she was facing Dusk, so she quickly composed herself settled down. "Yeah, apparently I do. Who are you?" she asked, not questioning Dusk, but questioning the mysterious voice.

Evergreen accepted Nightfall's helping hoof meekly, and dropped it not long after climbing out of the pool after him. She seemed slightly preoccupied. Nightfall couldn't know that in her head an argument was raging about how she felt about him at that very moment.

Silver noticed the way he was acting around her, she felt safe but was nervous. "Leaf, are you okay? You seem worried about something" Silver was cautious, she knew that she needed to stay in the meadows but she flew off in search for Leaf. Was he mad at her? Or just concerned for her safety.. "Star...you know me by now" Dusk interrupted "You know how shy I am, and I assume you know how easily offended I can be..." he managed to compose himself and stand tall as he spoke now, seeing that he had nothing else to hide. "Shadow is there to...protect me, however in his own way, that generally means hurting everypony else. His only real concern is keeping me safe, but he gets out of hand sometimes. Normally I can keep him under control quite easily, but with recent...events, it's hard to keep my mind straight."

"He's in love, clearly..." Shadow exclaimed "the idea of igniting the maze was mine, I saw it was hurting Dusk by messing with you, and I didn't like that...at all."
