You have a right to be defensive over a sister you never met. She's still a family member, regardless of whether or not you had met her before. It's definitely an odd thing, but it makes a lot of sense at the same time. Like you said, "I might have had a sister." That's enough to make you feel distraught over her death... It was a life that could have so much potential, but it ended prematurely. The fact that she was your sister adds to that, because she would have most likely been very close to you.
