Maroon Sky woke up with a jolt, nearly knocking his saddlebag off to the dirt. "Ah! I'm ready!" He stood up straight as fast as he could, his vision spun from the result. After a few hard shook to his brain he finally sobered up. He quickly stuffed his blanket to his saddlebag and followed Ardent and others.

Quip popped his head out of the tree again and shook his head. "You can never make me!" he said and jumped out of the tree. He rushed over to Discharge and waited for Maroon to come along. "Have i ever told you how much cacti make me want to smell broccoli? I tried it once, but they just smelled fat. Weird huh?" he rambled. The poster is starting to wonder if Quip ate something bad...

Discharge shook his head and trotted over to Lost Knowledge "If he gets worse, you hold him him down, i'll beat him with a rock" he whispered, before taking the lead again. "You gonna be alright there bomb-boy?" he asked with a concerned look "dont need you chewing on grenades now..." 

 

It wasn't long before they where at the chariot, much faster than it took the other way, it seemed. A quick survey of his surroundings indicated nothing had changed. The manticore had gone...strangely. He thought nothing of it though, and set about scouring the floor for the tracks once more. 

 

"Alright, well, we're here. Let's get a move on - be at the ready with your weapons, and keep an eye out for anything shifty."

Quip eyed Discharge like he was crazy. "Why would i chew on grenades? I've already tried it, and they taste like banana's. I hate banana's!" he said like everything was completely normal. "Have you ever noticed our eyes are too big for our heads? Like... seriously, we should be dumber than wood with the size our brains should be"

Lost Knowledge just nodded slowly. This was a situation that needed to be handled carefully.

 

"Yes... that's a very good point you have there. Speaking of which, your pupils seem to be dilated. You didn't eat anything toxic, did you, Quip?" 

 

Admittedly, that wasn't the most subtle, but it got the point across.

Quip now looked at Lost like he was crazy. "Whaaaaat? You dare accuse me for such a feat? You would think i would have noticed by now! The nerve..." he said in a strange Manehatten accent. He turned his gaze away from Lost to look ahead of himself. "Our legs can bend in strange ways..." he said as he put his hoof up to his forehead.

Night Song was getting her stuff together and was stretching her wings in and out to get rid of the pain, when she picked up on a conversation Flame Dancer and Discharge was having. He's right. I can't use my weapon without my wings. And does Flame think I'm useless?! With that suspicion hanging in her head, she began stretching her wings out repeatedly so that she could fly again without pain. She began to follow the group while stopping occasionally to take a bite out of one of the apples she brought with her.

Discharge looked lowered himself to ground level as he searched for the next portion of tracks. He extended his broken wing and scooped up a rock, tucking it under his folded wing just in case. 

He changed direction as did the tracks, weaving in and out between the trees. 

 

Queue evil things 'cut scene'

 

There was a pair of pony shaped shadows in the distance - one of them looked to be wearing a cape and holding a stick of some sort, and the other seemed to be much larger than a regular pony. They where backed up by a strange looking shadow and the three of them where staring at the group of ponies, watching them as they trekked back and forth through the forest. 

"I wonder where they're going? They've been here for a while now..."

"I durn know, but dey killed dem wolves we sent."

"Did they now? Interesting."

"And the Manticore...well...dey left i'm for dead dey did. We had to get 'im back last night"

"They must be after the Amulet...that's the only reason for them to be here, and following our tracks too...keep it safe. Do whatever you need to."

 

The pony with the cape turned around and trotted up to the strange shadow "And you my pet...you should help him out...I don't think he will be able to stop them without your intervention. The shadow let out a tremendous roar, easily loud enough for the ponies to hear even from their distance. 

 

(yeah so just to be clear, these guys are like...miles away. Not really, but you get the point. We cannot see them - at all. This was a suggested scene by Starshine, and I couldn't think of a better way to include it.)

Goldseek looked at the bomb pony like he was mad. And, at the moment, perhaps the bomb pony was mad. "Would anyone happen to know what kind of berries he was eating? Cause it might be best if we stay clear of whatever it is." He was trying to be serious, but half of him just wanted to burst out laughing. He tried not to make it show.

Discharge jumped up, looking frantically all around the group to find the source of the roar. 

"Don't tell me...don't tell me i'm the only one who heard that?" He asked in a panicked tone, still scanning the area for any signs. 

"I guess we know what made these tracks now..." he groaned worriedly.

Maroon Sky could only raise an eyebrow on Quip's antics. He was a bit glad that the earth pony didn't have his bombs up on the tree with him. A delirious pony and explosives tend to be a dangerous mix. He was about to say something when a chilling roar could be heard. It didn't sound particularly friendly, Ardent panicking on the roar was also disturbing. "Do you know what kind of creature could make that kind of sound?" He asked to the pegasus.

"Only one that I know of...and I was under the impression they where extinct."

He continued fishing around the floor for more tracks, and eventually he found another path that the tracks angled on to.

"There's a cobblestone path in the middle of this forest...how very ominous." he remarked flatly, before trotting off along the path in the direction the tracks lead, before they became unseeable on account of the stones. Maybe to a trained tracker, but Discharge only knew the basics - and he never did get much experience.

 

"Alright...things are looking to be getting dangerous now. Anypony wants to turn back...you might want to do so now."

chatty was thinking about what was said earlyer about a pegesus archer needs to be up high. "waite a minute i am a archer and a pegasus so why didn't you ask me to do it" chatty asked cockly. he then started to strech his wings to start a little lap in a circle. he then took his bow and arrow and aimed at a tree for practice. "i need to practice more but my aim is geting better" he said to himself he then landed. and put his bow back on his back. he then walked over to the arrow picked it out of the tree and put it back in his quiver. he is now waiting for orders.

"Not me," Maroon said, shaking his head. "Princess Luna has personally sent us to retrieve the amulet. I'll do my best to help you complete this expedition." A supposedly extinct creature, whatever it was Ardent would need every help he could get. Even if Maroon so far was proven hilariously inept at combat, at least he could serve as a distraction. With the payment was given in advance, he didn't exactly have any reason to return in one piece.

"I never even realised you had a bow, what with you sitting out the combat and all" Discharge laughed, before turning to Maroon "And thank you, you've proven most useful so far, we'll surely be needing you later too." That didn't quite come out how he would have liked it to, but it'd have to do. 

 

"Alright" he winced, almost painfully as he looked up at a mountain that had seemingly appeared from nowhere "looks like this is the place..." 

He took a few steps forward, before stopping dead and looking intently at the rocky foot of the mountain. There where two pegasus ponies circling the entire perimeter. A path leading around the side of the mountain curled up and around as far as he could see, there where another two pegasii stood on the ground, they looked to be guarding the path up the side. He also noticed a hooded pony slowly making his way down the path, followed by an entourage of rather large earth ponies, with metal armour across their shoulders and chest, spears and bows on their backs. 

 

"Quick! Hide!" Discharge hissed to the group as he jumped in the bushes along the edge of the road. 

 

(I'm going to give everyone some time to post, so I wont be posting again until most of us who are still interested in this have posted.)

chatty quickly flew in to the bush as quietly as possible.he took his bow and was ready.he was not going to fire untill order was given."why are we hiding and do you think they took the garuds.or they have the amulet.i dont know but i do know they look strong.best not get in to a fight" chatty wispered quietly.he then lay on the ground to hide from the ponys on the mountien.

Night Song heard the roar in the distance and decided it wasn't anything, so she kept walking on. However, a lump of distress was beginning to form in her stomach. Something is wrong. Really REALLY wrong! she thought to herself, starting to tremble. When she heard Discharge give the command, she tried her wings and shot into the trees, trying her best to hide in the foliage while ignoring her still-sore wing.

Quip sort of just stood in the middle of the path, looking at the ponies coming towards him. He was confused as to why everypony was hiding. "What are you doing? They are friendly!" he told his team mates. "HELLO! WE WERE JUST PASSING BY!" Quip called out to the ponies.

"Who are they... and why are they out here in the middle of nowhere?"

 

He didn't like the looks of this. It seemed like everything was getting much more complicated, and definitely not in a good way.

"Chatty!" Discharge hissed, gesturing with his hoof in a downward motion - "Bow down! We don't need to give away our -" he was cut off by Quip's shouting. "He's gonna get us all killed!" he then leaped out the bush, forcing Quip into the shrubs on the opposite side of the tracks, pinning him to the ground with his Kukri at his throat "Stay...quiet..."

 

The other group of ponies at the mountain seemed to be either uninterested in Quip's shouting, or they where out of ear-shot. Discharge prayed it was the latter. He peered around a tree to see the patrolling pair of Pegasi looking in their direction and conferring something. Discharge gave his group a worried look over his shoulder, before motioning with his head to the pegasi and giving a slight shrug of his shoulders. 'I hope one of these can think of something quickly...' he thought.

Goldseek darted for a tree in the distance. As he ran, he glanced a look at the two ponies. Odd. That was probably the only word to describe them. He then leapt up, swung on a branch up into the canopy of the tree. Now getting a better view, he noticed there were many more ponies, most of them wearing armour and with weapons. The only question in his mind was - Why?

(OOC: Watch this battle be over when I get home. Just watch it happen.)

"Uh...what?" Maroon Sky was a bit late to go in a hiding. He dashed behind a bush. He groaned when Quip made a scene in the middle of the path, fortunately Ardent was quick to take him down before the group of armed ponies could see him, or at least he hoped they didn't. Two of the pegasi seemed to be looking to the group's direction. Ardent gave the group a worried look. Maroon replied by channelling his magic to his horn and motioned his head to the horizon. "Should I try to cause an explosion somewhere far away?" He whispered to the pegasus. It might reveal their position, but he hoped that his yellow-colored spell would be hard for the armed ponies to notice.

Discharge's eye twitched a little as he thought about the possible outcomes of this situation, but he soon gave a somewhat hesitant nod - just in time too, the pegasi looked to be flying this way. He pressed his kukri a little harder onto Quips throat "one squeak from you, and you paint the flora red!"

Ardent's eye twitch didn't escape Maroon. The risk was huge, but it should be better than taking the entire army of ponies head-on. He crawled a few steps away from the group while keeping under the bushes' cover. After he distanced himself Maroon Sky channelled his horn and shot two yellow orbs to the horizon, each aimed to somewhere far away behind the pegasi and over the armed ponies. He tensed his hooves, ready to run for it when the worst happened.

 

(OOC: should this kind of action be rolled on the dice or not? )

Thankfully the pegasi didn't seem to notice where the shots where fired from, but they did notice the explosion they made in the distance. Almost immediately after the smoke had settled, there was a solid black stream of armed pegasi flying out from behind the mountain in the direction of the impact. 

 

Discharge took this opportunity to regroup, hauling Quip by the throat and throwing him to the floor "Are you trying to get us killed?!" he growled as he  sheathed his Kukri. "You see that? They are NOT friendly!" he raised his hoof, narrowly stopping himself from hitting Quip in the face as he lay on the ground. Thumping the floor, he turned to Maroon. "Well...the good news is, it worked. The bad news is...that's where we're going - in the mountain. Lets hope you fired them far enough." He sighed heavily, rubbing his ankle that was now in pain. "We got lucky there, no thanks to a certain somepony. Everyone gather your wits and say your prayers, everything is pointing to inside that mountain..."
