Before he followed after Moonbeam, Lost Knowledge trotted over to Nightfall.

 

"I just want to make one thing clear. As far as I'm concerned, you're not in charge. I'll go with you, but only for the sake of the others. And if you get any of them hurt, especially Moonbeam, because you're more concerned with whatever delusions of glory you have than with leading the group properly, we're going to have a problem. So don't let me catch you being reckless."

 

He turned and walked up to Moonbeam's side.

Paradox stood up and walked over to Shade, looking her straight in the eye and saying, "You can come with us if you want, but that doesn't mean that I'll have to trust you. I'm giving you this one warning, if there's any funny stuff from you, I will not hesitate to teleport you to tartarus and let them deal with you. Do I make myself very clear?"

"Very" she said with a grin.

 

"But I know where were going. What do you plan to do once you get to the hive? Do you know anything about changeling?" She asked.

 

Shade knew exactly what they were walking into, it was hunger season and the changeling are strong after they feed.... She coudent care less what happens to the group. She just wanted to confront the queen.

"Just what I've read, which isn't much, and the most I know is that they have alternating feeding seasons, although the book failed to specify when exactly they were... Oh, well, we'll manage it." He walked over to Arrow and sat down, nuzzling her. The main thing that they could do right now is eat then continue until it was dark.

Moonbeam led them through the forest without a hitch for a long time. She was taking a slightly shorter route than the one she had plotted out with Paradox in order to beat him to their destination. Suddenly a giant manticore leaped out of the brush and charged towards Moonbeam, its mouth opened wide, revealing its razor-sharp teeth. Upon reaching Moonbeam, it immediately flipped over on its back and squirmed around. Moonbeam rubbed it's belly like one would a dog. "Oh good boy, Bartholomeo! Good boy! I can't stay with you now, though. We have to keep going," she said with a small smile, getting up and walking past the beast as it whined a little.

 

"Come on, everypony!" she said, motioning onwards as if nothing had happened at all.

"And if you decide to take the reigns, and someone gets hurt, what then? Will you still blame it on me, because my enthusiasm for blood is diminished?"

He glared at Lost Knowledge.

"Besides, did you do anything to stop him? Did you? And if not, why not? I'm not deferring to anyone here; I'm taking this group to meet up with Paradox so he can resume control. I am, as some would say, only acting captain."

Chamois followed behind the group, my eyes constantly exploring the world around them, just waiting for something to pop up.  She kept silent.  She wasn't lost in thought, but she was silently blank.  Her expression though, looked determined.  She ignored the odd manticore incident and kept following them.

"Calm down, everypony! Trust me, as long as we're in the forest, we should be safe, especially this deep in the woods. It's like with that manticore. The forest can be dangerous for most ponies, but I have a special connection with all of the creatures here. It's Paradox and Arrow I'm worried about."

Arrow rolled her eyes at Shade. *Fighting them will be a challenge...Pff.* She thought, smiling slightly as Dox nuzzled her. "I think we should just try sneaking in. Rather than having to fight right away...sneaking in would also mean Death doesn't know our full plan. If we fight...then he will obviously figure out that we're after the sword." She said.

"Sneaking in? Really? Do you know nothing about changeling? They can seance when love is in the air. And they will know if there's something in there hive that's not suppose to be there. Unless I change all of you to look like changeling, then we have less of a problem sneaking around."

"Ok then, I guess we know what we're going to do then. But for now, we need to get around this rockslide. But, even before that..." Dox points up to the sky, pointing out two barely visible specks flying high above them. "I'd like to show you how we've been tracked this whole time."

"We're safe now, but when we leave the forest... That's a wholly different situation. When we get there, we need a plan."

He glared at Lost, then looked back at Moonbeam.

"And before Lost accuses my plan of consisting only of bloodshed, let me speak: we can't kill anypony yet. I'll need a better look at the maps, but I'm pretty sure things get dangerous soon."

"Look, you two can be love birds later. Right now, we're trying to find Paradox as fast as possible, and not compliment each other. And in order to get in, we need to find Paradox, which will involve a a big challenge, I'm sure. We can't get to far ahead of ourselves."

Chamois glanced over as she heard her name.  Smart?  Really?  She thought about this for a moment.  Well...I guess, maybe.  She didn't know why she never thought much of herself.  She couldn't help but smile slightly then, at Moonbeam and nodded in acknowledgement.

"Who...er...what are they ?" She asked, looking up into the sky. "Should...should we take them out ?" She asked, looking away from the specks to look at Paradox. "Or...do you have another plan ?" She looked away from Paradox and back up into the sky at the two flying specks

"Those are what we call gore crows. They are spirits of dead ponies forced into reanimating dead crows against their will and do their masters bidding. But they won't last long in this noonday sun..." As he said that, pieces of flesh and feathers fell from the birds. "We won't have to worry over them for long."

Paradox looked up as one of the birds fell out of the sky. "Ah, perfect." It fell straight into the river at the bottom of the cliff. Ha decided that eating could wait and packed his things. "We need to get a move on if we want to get around these rocks by nightfall."

"You're right. Meeting back up with them is the important thing right now. Split up like we are now, I don't see how we stand a chance, anyway. Do we at least have a way of tracking the others? Because we can't afford to just keep arguing all day."

"Or just fly." Shade said flaping her feathered wings, "oh wait hold on... No wings? Well, I could give you some wings, I can do that. But I don't think I have enough energy to do so... There is a way for me to get the energy tho." She said pointing towards feeding some more... Not really wanting to feed, but it was a way to get more energy.

Arrow nodded. "Let's get going then." She said, stretching her leafy wings and moving towards the pile of rocks. "And Shade. I would rather jump off this cliff then let you feed from me or Paradox."

"You know, I have wings too. We could all just fly over...dox, Shade or I could just hold on to you...preferably me. If you're comfortable with that." She said.
