gaming Should I get Civilization 5?

I'm considering getting this game, since it looks so fun from what my friend is doing in it.

But due to certain circumstances beyond my control, I don't really have means to look up how much it costs--

So basically this thread is for someone to tell me how much I can get it for on Steam, and then all the coolest parts about what I ought to do in the game if I got it, or the funnest/ funniest details that I should try and look for.

I've heard if you play your cards right you can research Nuclear Weapons without Mathematics.

It's $29.99 USD on Steam right now :)

I got Civ V during the Christmas sales on an impulse, and have only played for a bit since then as I haven't had the time to explore it much lately. However, what I can tell you is that the learning curve is certainly much gentler than the previous Civ games and there's certainly a lot more interaction available. If you do get Civ V, do spend some time in the tutorial campaign cuz its quite well done and can get you up to speed with the user interface quite quickly.

Signature to come soon. I think. Yeah. Once I think up a nice one. Or when someone makes one for me. Damn it. I need more time to draw and animate poni. >_<

It is quite fun. I don't know if you get nukes without math, but I think you would get stuck in the late medieval age. (Not sure though.) Also, watch out for Ghandi. Ghandi is always packing nukes.

If you've played previous Civ games, there are some changes. You can only have one military and one non-military unit per tile. I think this change makes the game more strategic and less "Ball of death" strategy based, where you horde tons of units on one tile Instead of government types you have cultural policies, which basically let you pick and choose laws instead of being purely one government.

Personally, one of my favorite things to do is play on a huge map and start a world war.

The biggest negative I can think of is online multiplayer. It can be difficult to get a good game going, especially if you don't have all DLC. Unless you play with friends, anyway. The format also changes, making all players act at once in multiplayer, so it becomes a bit of a click-fest.

If you do end up getting it, you should add me on steam (Steam name is Brosparkles) and we can play online together.

Civ 5 is a ton of fun.  I recently started playing it again, after not having played a Civilization game in a long time, and I love it.  The learning curve isn't bad at all.  The tutorial is great, but isn't at all necessary if you've ever played a Civ game before.  Difficulty, however, is another thing.  I plowed through on easy just to get used to it, and just started another game on normal difficulty.  Stupid Ramesses tore me apart.

We are human, after all.  Flesh uncovered, after all.

It's a ton of fun, even for people who didn't try the older civ games. It's not easy to play in the beginning, but that's what makes it so fun!

I reccomend getting the game of the year even if it's a bit pricey, it comes with all the DLCs and Map packs on steam except the Gods & Kings Expansion. Tip though, Don't get the expansion until you feel like your good at the game or you'll be dissapointed, it's basically the original Civ 5 except it adds new leaders, modes, scenarios, maps, and features such as religion and espionage which gives more depth into game play

My top 5 civilization to play are :

1. America - simply because of their awesome abbility, especially when I'm an expansionist who likes to buy a crapload of land

2. Japan - Extremely powerful military and units

3. Carthage - Abbility to climb over mountains (for trolling uses)

4. Danish - I'm a navy guy, I attack from the sea often and I hate it when people take my scouts in the middle of the sea, Not Anymore!

5. Korea - For Science!

Go get it! it's one of the best strategy game by far!
