She is from a show called Fosters home for imaginary friends, an old show on cartoon network.

More importantly, Lauren Faust was the animation director (among several other things) on that show. Her husband, Craig McCraken, created it as well as The Powerpuff Girls which she also worked on. If this is a ponified Madame Foster, it's a nod to her past.

I wouldn't think it was the character herself, because she's not a pony. I just thought she was a ponified version of Madame Foster.

 

I'm curious to see how those old ponies will be used.

Even better than the first!

 

The new version just seems to have more emotion and passion put into it with Twilight's voice sounding more rich and how the music sort of crescendo's before she lands in Ponyville. The only thing that caught me off guard was Rainbow's voice being a bit deeper.

 

Still, the new theme song gets a 10/5 for me

I'm kinda meh about it. The main vocals are better, but the added instrumental sounds are unnecessary. The replacement for the "Ahahah" kind of comes out very suddenly and seems to clash.

Season 1 intro is permanently engraved in my mind.

I don't like the new one as much but I do like it and I'm glad they made a new one for a new season.

While i do love the animation revamp, the original intro's song has kinda been engraved into my mind after a good 28 episodes, so i'm having a bit of trouble adapting to the new version.

 

However, I shall love and tolerate it regardless.
