Perfect_Harmony 58 January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 I'd like to share my story, if you all don't mind. For many years I was a bitter, self-centered person. I have always been looking for something in my life that would be a game changer, something that would make me realize that life was not all that bad. For 3 years, I had gotten progressively worse with my friends. I am not really sure why this happened and why it kept happening, but I decided to drag on with it. Arguments became regular, trolling (to the extent of grief) became common, and an overall loss in faith had plagued me. I didn't know what to do. This, paired up with the stress from school had really taken a toll on me. I began to plummet towards impending doom and when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it did. I'll admit that I took my anger out online, criticizing bronies for their actions. I would be the one you would always see in the Youtube comments spamming derogatory terms against bronies, against what they were all about. At this point I thought "Love and Tolerate" was a horrible joke. Who could love and tolerate the people that were always casting you down? To be honest, I thought all bronies were no life losers who had nothing better to do than watch cartoons for little girls. I said to myself "Hah, I'm gonna check out this pony show and see how stupid it really is". So I went on to Youtube and watched the first episode. You all can probably guess what happened next. You know that feeling you get when your wrong? You feel sore inside, knowing that you made a mistake, you were too quick to judge, and the very thing you stood for is now nothing. I was introduced to a world where everything is peaceful, where the sky is the limit (literally), and 6 friends were always together. I kept watching and watching soon to realize what I was missing. Right there and then, the hammer hit my cold heart, shattering the hard rock that had formed around it. I soon began to contemplate what I had done in my life and what I wanted to do. I thought about how I have acted towards my friends and how wrong it was. I picked up the phone and called each one. I expressed how sorry I was and that I wanted us to start over. They all accepted and now it's just like how we were in our younger school years. Laughing, sharing our thoughts, and being there when needed. This show has changed me in so many ways, and it's hard to think about what would of happened ,if I hadn't given it a chance, if I hadn't went on to youtube that faithful day. What I'm trying to get at here is my inner childhood has returned and I feel like a new person, changed for the better. I owe so much to this show, it's writers, and the community. There is so much love and understanding here that is almost impossible to come by now a days even when you're not on the internet. What I would like to ask now is if anybody here has had a similar experience and if they have, please share. I would like to stay here for a very long time, and having all of you here will make it even more worth while. Thanks everypony!

Big Bill Hell 123 January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 It's a beautiful thing how so many people's lives are so profoundly effected by this show. I can't think of any instance in which a children's cartoon changed so many peoples lives around for the better. It's one of those thing I love bout this show and it's community. codythecody 36 January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 I honestly felt the same way when the show first came out. I was browsing /co/ in November of 2010 thinking that everybody was joking about the show being good. Curisoty got the best of me several months later, and I watched it and enjoyed it very much. Perfect_Harmony 58 January 31, 2012 Author Share January 31, 2012 This is... beautiful really. I'm linking this thread to my facebook right now. It's amazing what one little show can do to the world isn't it? I'm glad I was able to move you in the way I did. This show means so much to me and to the community. If people could be more open minded and give it a chance, then they would see what they are truly missing. I never thought that there would be a pool of safety that I could fall into and be accepted, especially on the internet. My mission now is to convert others to our cause and make the world the better place one by one. Together, we can love and tolerate.
Radiance64 7,053 January 31, 2012 Share January 31, 2012 Eeyup, I've felt that too, but I was just annoyed by bronies, rather than being a hater. Once you realize how good the show is though, all the hate and annoyance just slips away.

~asdf~ 110 January 31, 2012 Share January 31, 2012 I thankfully never had such an experience (being an otaku for most of my life people were used to my peculiarities) and I was gradually changed do to the internet and my very open-minded personality. However I think this is one of the most beautiful turn-around stories I've heard yet. Kudos buddy.
RockinRarity 1,605 January 31, 2012 Share January 31, 2012 I wasn't in a dark place or anything before I got into MLP. My life was fine before I watched it. My life is still fine. My life just happens to be filled with more ponies now. Follow my blog! ~The Mind of Sally - Experiences, Opinions, Musings~
Ezynell 2,037 January 31, 2012 Share January 31, 2012 especially on the internet. I know what you mean there. Being an internet is closely related to "Road Rage" in the sense that people do horrible things and insult others far more than in real life, hiding behind an "anonymous" sheild. Bronies don't care if people know who they are. They do it to help. GAK
Perfect_Harmony 58 January 31, 2012 Author Share January 31, 2012 I'll say it once, and I'll say it a thousand times. You guys are what make my life worth living. Understanding, caring, tearing down the wall that seperates us. Sex, race, whatever it may be, we all stand together as one family. As long as we hold together, as long as we are always here for eachother, hatred will be a thing of the past. Thanks again everyone. You have no idea how much this means to me.

Kyreth 194 January 31, 2012 Share January 31, 2012 (edited) That was just... beautiful. I can't express how happy it makes me when I read about how the show and our community have changed a person for the better. I wasn't in what I would call a dark place before I watched the show but for my entire life up until that point I never really had any faith in humanity. I didn't think people were good. I'd seen so many people act out of selfishness and without consideration for others that I just thought humans were naturally bad. The show made me happy. It helped me deal with negative feelings and stopped me from exploding at people on a number of occasions. But the thing that had the biggest impact on me was the community. I didn't think there were any people like you guys in the world. I didn't think anyone cared about anyone other than themselves, let alone people they meet on the internet. 5 Minutes on these forums changed that entirely. Thats my story. Java Jive 440 January 31, 2012 Share January 31, 2012 Good to see you've managed to drag yourself out of that pit of bitterness. The show does have that effect of changing your views on life, and that aside it makes you tolerate the characteristics of other people some more that bug you. And overall shaping an happier you. If anything changes things for the better, whether it be a show, or music or whatever, as an outsider, you can always give it a chance, glad you did. When things change for the worse, either because of school or at home, you can get the habbit of thinking that everyone out there exists just to hurt you in some way. But there are always fine, likeminded people. Let's go downtown.
