gaming So....I suck at Dark Souls but I play them anyway.

I really do. I have no idea if I'll ever beat either Demon's or Dark Souls but in spite of my failure I sometimes pull off some pretty epic wins on demons. My latest conquest was against the Capras Demon in the lower Undead Burg where I used all my Estus Flasks, partially fending off and killing the wolves in the boss room while the boss got on me as well. After I killed the wolves I actually managed to drop-slash him to death through most of his health and finished with a third of my health (any attack probably would have killed me) and no Estus Flasks.

This was all some not-so-subtle way of sparking discussion about the Souls series soooooo........how about you peeps? What's your Souls series epic victory stories?

I'd say to watch out for spoilers but honestly in this series unless you know what someone's talking about you'll likely not be able to follow the conversation anyway since most spoilers would just be tactics against the demons.

Side note: I beat the Taurus Demon by hugging his crotch. I'm not sure how I should feel about this. On one hand I beat him by hiding where the sun don't shine.....almost literally but on the other.....I was hugging his crotch and staring at it to win. Good thing they don't do any sort of anatomy on the demons. @_@

I beat Dark Souls like twice already. SL:280-300 I cant recall at the moment. (Pyromancer)

So I pretty much have no more epic victories save from random PvP battles. Great game...being so hard is what makes it fun. :)

I really don't agree with the difficulty being what makes it great. I'm personally against a game being hard just to be hard but the reason I love the Souls series in spite of all of that is it has such amazing design and ergonomic choices that it's hard not to love.

Ah. Well I really don't like easy games and the allure of DS was it's humongous difficulty.

I got very into it. It makes you think and it's very taxing, which is why I enjoyed it so much. You're right about the design too. Great graphics, storyline, characters...everything makes it great in that regard as well.

I think it's fair to agree that everyone loves the silver knight archers right before Granola & Hostess. The lore and subtle, dark atmosphere really draws me into the experience. It will never be no Demon's Souls PvP but it is still fun to fight other players...that aren't in the forest looking for a gank.

If you ever want some help or want to play just hit me up.

I'm of the belief that the difficulty of a game is the absolute last thing to consider when talking about how good the game is. I don't think any game would have been better if it was more or less difficult than it was when it released. Balance is a totally different issue. Some games are easy or difficult because they have balance issues and that's a totally separate thing.

Anyway, I'm about to go play some more. I just got to the Depths and found some giant rat in the sewers right before I died last so heading back to try and get my souls. I'm playing as a Bandit and making a power build cuz I suck at dodging and need power and defense to back me up.

Anyway, anyone who wants to add me for this (or other games) can go ahead. I have Demon's Souls on PS3 and Dark Souls on 360. Both my PSN username and my Gamertag are the same: Resulli.

I just wish the Souls series had a lobby or let you choose friends to play with instead of being entirely random.

Sadface, I play it on PS3. Pro tip though while in the Depths...make sure to kill a certain special someone or prepare for a nightmare.

Eh, it would be nice to have an easier way to play with friends but only with summoning, invasions by random players is half the thrill in my eyes.

I just fought, and lost to, the Gaping Dragon. I sincerely hope you don't mean killing the merchant. Like....seriously. He sells me lightning stuff. :(

I'm with you on the fact that i suck at dark souls. i have made it to the end but i haven't been able to beat the finale boss. i rage quit on him so many times i gave up on ever beating Gwen. i have also started a new game and i found out that i only got that far by shear luck and i cant beat Seath or even make it to the bed of chaos. the daemon fire sage is stopping me.  however i love the difficulty of the game and the style that it is done in makes me enjoy the hours i spent just roaming around trying to level up a little.

Ah, I see now you probably meant the rat queen or the shaman. I see these messages saying "beware of caster" and I suspect he'd be helping the dragon. Good thing he was the first thing I took out when I saw him. And it's good he stays dead. Seriously, I love that there are enemies that stay dead making levels easier to traverse. As far as I know the only enemy that did that in Demon's Souls was the demon from the beginning of the game which shows up again in the Shrine of Storms.

Took out the dragon this time once I figured out his patterns. Next up: Blighttown.

warning about blight town. its the first place to make me rage quite in this game and that's because there are guys that can cause toxic in one hit. also they are blow dart users so you normally don't see them until its too late.angry.png i hate blight town. when i started a new game a made sure to grab the master key so i could skip it entirely.

I'm smack dab in the middle of Blighttown right now. I honestly don't have much issue with the Toxic guys as long as they don't directly hit me and even when they do it only fills the meter up to almost three quarters of the way so I can back off for a while. I have lots of poison resistance, it seems. :P

Right now I'm having to deal with this stupid creature that I think I have to take care of from a water chute behind it so I need to find the valve that releases said water. I'm hoping to find another bonfire before the boss though cuz the one I have now is surrounded by the stupid residents of Blighttown that take too long to kill (six strikes with my Battleaxe+2 is too much when surrounded by two of these and/or the firebreathing dogs.)

Sometimes I get lucky and push things off the edge. I've also gone around and killed all the poison dart guys but I don't know if they are the type of enemy that disappears for good or not. If they aren't then I'll end up playin' it safe once again.

My character looks like Ryu Hayabasa right now cuz of the hood I picked up. Pretty sweet.

Does the game get harder at Blighttown?I'm just roflstomping everything with my +5 Claymore thus far with my str/faith build and fast roll. It's ridiculous how fast you can swing that thing and get away with invinciblity frames.

If you go from the "Exit" you can entirely skip Blighttown like I did on my smurf account.

Start at the church and go forest, go down into it and then take a right shortly after the blacksmith's place where you first see the tree monster, go down the cliff and continue down until you see a cave guarded by one of those obsidian knights and continue into the dragon valley. You go left along the cliffs and eventually you come to the back of Blighttown and you can basically just fall until you get to the bottom. :)

Cuts the time from ~2 hours+ down to around 6 minutes. It's ridiculous.

wow you must have high resistance to it because if when i went back at later levels i still got toxic in one hit or close to it. also there is a bonfire at the bottom of blight town in a tunnel just before the boss. its pretty easy to spot. also that high poison resistance will come in handy because the water down there is poisoning.

Well la-dee-da, mister awesomepants. :P

I've found most of the game to be fairly easy myself and the only real issue I've had with Blighttown is the fact that you are surrounded by narrow pathways so it makes it hard to maneuver.

I think it's best for a first run to explore every area though so I wouldn't skip it even if I knew how before I got into the thick of it.

I guess I just happen to choose all the right armor combinations, eh?

Good thing there's a bonfire down there but the poison water is gonna annoy me. I better try to keep hold of all my purple moss.

I could almost swear this place was designed to be a spiritual successor to the Valley of Defilement from Demon's Souls. (Though I never wandered past the Leechmonger so I don't know much about it's other areas)

It took me awhile to get used to how weighty Dark Souls was compared to Demon's Souls but once I did I pretty much walk through most anything. I suck at dodging in either game so I take the "guarding until the right opportunity" route and only dodge when absolutely necessary or when my shield gets knocked away.

That doesn't sound like fun for my Claymore. It's also my first run,so I haven't even gotten that far yet.I almost killed Gaping Dragon down in Depths, but then the game booted me out right when I was gonna kill him due to randomly low framerate. :/

I hate the PC version sometimes.

I was actually referring to the channeler, I didn't know my first playthrough and I thought the Gaping Dragon could shoot magic arrows from the sky at me lol

Fun fact: You can skip the Gaping Dragon, most of blighttown, Capra Demon, and Taurus Demon.

It gets slightly harder but there is no significant increase till Anor Londo

Figured. tongue.png

I had him dead like first time I got through there so I never had to worry about him. Once you figure out the Gaping Dragon's pattern he's pretty easy. For the most part you just don't wanna be in front of him like....ever. Even when his jaws are in the ground he'll still grab you and throw you into his maw so just get him from behind. Sucks too cuz his head has lower defense. tongue.png (Yes, I found that out the hard way. )

If I had properly used the Golden Pine Resin I probably would have finished it faster though.

Phew, made it to the bonfire in the swamp! I got to the swamp once before but couldn't find the bonfire so died and went all the way back. Now I'm finally here but still not sure whether I should kindle it so I'll wait a little while and explore some before I do.
