Hypocrisy towards Bronies.

I do catch flack for liking ponys. Unjustly but form others point of view it is almost a religious following. Some Bronys are The gospel of Twilight sparkle all who watch can learn to love and tolerate.

 

Plus it has the extra stigma of being a cartoon and you know something is wrong with you if you are into cartoons at your age. As for other fandoms in less its sports its made fun of some were. It's not just ponys anime is still regarded as all hentai and or devil worship by many older gentians. That aside the fandoms them selfs are bad. I freely hate radical anime fans be cause they took the fun out of Naruto, bleach and 5 min in haring about The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya the big plot twist was ruined. Not even going in to the sub vs dub debate. X(

 

Fist impressions sick. Fim doesn’t have a good one with a lot of people. A fandom of grownup liking little kid show is still a new idea. It hasn’t sunk in as yet. Anime and gaming is just now fully establishing them selfs as a thing. Hopefully with time

In theory being a brony should be no different than being...say, a Whovian, or a fan of Adventure Time, or a fan of a sports team. Everyone has their own way of displaying their affinity for their respective community: merch of various kinds, conventions, etc. Again, in theory, it should be no different for ponies, but in reality when bronies do the same thing, it is suddenly considered over-the-top and shoving it in people's face. It makes no sense logically, and is simply a baseless double standard.

 

Bronies are unduly criticized simply because our affinity is ponies. No. Logical. Reason. Whatsoever.

 Bronies are critisized for being different to how people are normally brought up.... such as pink is for girls and blue is for boys and all that crap...

Over time these lessons change though... pink used to be the manliest colour out there.... just give it time... It usually isnt individual peoples fault, but rather society and the way we are effected by TV and stupid crap like that...

I've always noticed the most common response as to why others don't like Bronies is because we're constantly shoving it in others' faces.

 

It's at this point where I'd like to call bull on that statement.

 

You another fandom l keep seeing in the comment sections of videos and the like? The "Adventure Time" fans (or "adventurers", as I believe some call themselves now). I have seen several people with AT profile pics and comments being made on unrelated videos.

 

Here's the thing, they make references much like we do, right? Even on unrelated threads/videos, right? But how many flame wars have been started because of it? Last I counted, a grand total of zero. The amount of times I've seen the same thing, but for Bronies and with MLP? I've lost track of the amount of comment wars I've seen break out over it.

 

You see my point? I don't understand why it's perfectly fine for anyone else to reference something they like without fear of total war breaking out, but somehow Bronies are exempt from that rule.

 

Also, I've seen too many groups (Facebook pages, a subreddit, steam groups, etc.) dedicated to hating Bronies, but I've never seen any hate groups for, excuse the repetition, Adventure Time, or even Doctor Who, or really any other TV show out there!

 

Maybe that's just me though, what do you guys think?

 

Also, for the record, I don't hate Dr. Who or AT. I'm just not part of their fandom.

 

Although, the people at my school are like the stereotypical Bronies but with Dr. Who (in other words, they never shut up about it). Kind of ironic considering they hate Bronies, huh?

 

Let me tell you why this hypocrisy takes place.

People who like things do things like make cross references and jokes, they spread their love for something no matter what it is. But that is not the problem with bronies, we do not force feed our fandom any more than others do, we do not fangasm any more than others do over the shows we love, where the problem lies is girls. And no, not as you would think it at first, the blame is not on girls, but peoples approach to girls and girl things. Ponies are seen as "girl things" and this is why bronies and their love for the show bothers people. Girls are not allowed to be cool, anything made for girls must be dumb and "pandering" and brainless according to your average consumer and their concept of what is girly.

 

So a sight of our passion for this show brings to their mind tea parties, hair dressers, bath houses, giggling girls in glittery outfits and relationship drama. People do not hate our fandom because we force it down their throat, they hate it because they think of all the shit girls are forced to deal with, like how Lego went from unisex creation toy to separate product lines for girls and boys just because the marketing thought "they simply can't both like same things!" and This happened with all the childhood toys and TV series of last 3 generations in increasing degrees of ridiculousness.

 

This prejudice is created by marketing departments trying to sell toys more effectively by tying them in with gender stereotypes and rules of behaviour that parents want to enhance in their children, in this new era of extended childhood where you no longer can toss your kids to a certain outfit and shove ethics and etiquette down their throat the moment they sprout their first pubic hair to prepare them for a marriage, are the new "brainwashing" school. This all is done so the companies get to sell their toys, not to the children but their parents, and tack on some features and qualities these parents want their kids to grow to appreciate.

 

In all of their zeal to sell these products the corporations have forgotten that perhaps gender separation is not one of those values we should be teaching to our children and the hate bronies get is exactly why. One you criminalize one gender and certain aspects of human personality as "wrong" to one gender, then you create a bias and shift the balance that creates to fear and hate.

To these people who hate bronies and ponies, we are not force feeding anything, but we are only acting against their brainwashing. We are doing things and enjoying of things they seem "wrong" just because they do not see it elsewhere.

 

This sight of something unusual and different, something that goes against the "rules" of how to be a boy/man is what makes them uncomfortable and insecure, which they then try to address by trying to distance themselves from it by acting out a role of someone who strongly judges such misbehaviour. This discomfort and unease is only worsened the fact that bronies persist and grow in numbers, get more and more acceptance and even reach people they look up to like Gabe Newell and Kevin Levine.

 

This is why they hate us, this is why they feel like we force our fandom on them, because when ever they see us and our pony content, they fear the part in them that goes Aww at cute things and likes happy colors, flowers and butterflies. They fear it because all their life they've been told they must like guns, cars, robots and swords, while things like ponies, caring, cooking and sharing are gay. Im in the same boat as you, Ive always seen autism being mentioned on tv but never really knew what being autistic really meant

It is not an easy question to answer since Autism represents a broad spectrum of disorders/differences ranging from severe to mild and even high functioning. And there is also some disagreement over whether or not Aspergers is a form of Autism, personally I think it is and I often use the terms interchangeably. I myself was diagnosed with low functioning Autism at age 2 after losing what little language I had (I regained it at age 5) and exhibiting severe sensitivities to certain sounds and other sensations and equally severe behavioral problems. After years of therapies, interventions and a system of gradual mainstreaming I have advanced to the point where most people cannot tell I have Autism. The doctor may have been wrong about the form of Autism I had but he was right that I had it.

My main goals right now are to get my drivers license and try to get published as an author talking about my experiences with Autism so I can help others and get myself out of my current job which I have really grown to despise and to embrace what I believe is my true calling in life.

i've been doing furry artwork for years and while in school i listened to a lot of bashing...i love drawing the characters and know many members of the fandom personality, many the same are bronies as well (including myself). it hurts to hear, but i'm too shy and a bit scared to lean out there and say 'oh? well i'm one, let's talk about it.'

 

even though i'm a girl, it doesn't seem to make much difference. but the fact still stands, there is nothing wrong with simply enjoying something. if it's not hurting anyone, why should anyone say anything negative about it? actually, when others have such a big problem with certain fandoms, i wonder why it is they are so bothered. i found out once one of the local furry bullies decided to hate all furries because one of them wouldn't friend him on myspace. . _ . what...a...terrible....reason!

 

all fandoms seem to have a hatebase, D': but i think it's up to the members to handle any bullying calmly and maturely...or ignore it all together.

Yes I, part of the mlp fandom,  done a few fics and images

on the side and like the peeps/souls in the fandom but i re call when

anime was coming out in my old home town  and i love anime and still do

but when it came out,  a lot of ppl thought it was creepy  the adults liked

it and also older teenagers,  when i was kid it was ok to  watch anime

and get the  dvds/tapes but as i got older, i was frowned at and given

strange looks when reading a manga in a public setting or in  highschool.   Thankfully,  a lot

of my friends where also into so i was not alone in some ways.   So in the end

you will find someone or peoples who hate a fandom.  it happens,  don't take

to heart and a lot of souls are very narrow minded people.

The hate for the fandom has everything to do with our (collective) obsession with binary gender divisions in pop culture and, to a lesser extent, a male-oriented worldview. This is why it's cool when girls like "masculine" things (video games, Batman movies, etc). But if a guy likes MLP, or romantic comedies? That's to be viewed with rejection and scorn.

 

The sooner we (collectively) get rid of this obsession, the better EVERYONE will be. Quality entertainment is quality entertainment, regardless of who it was marketed/intended for.

This. I get an insane amount of hate for enjoying theater and things like that. A year or so ago, I tweeted how (500) Days of Summer was a phenomenal movie and that if they got a chance, people should watch it. I got so much hate due to it being a "chick flick." I can't get over the fact that we're CONSTANTLY stereotyped as people who can't tolerate opinions, when you have the almost the entirety of Whovians on Tumblr and Pintrest who are the most unintelligable intolerants out there. Fans of BBC's ,"Sherlock" are worse, going batshit because another version, if it must be put like that, of Sherlock Holmes is being made. And you have Potterheads, to a lesser extent, most of them having an undying hatred of Twilight, and feel the need to spread that wherever they go.

Yes, it has a devoted and large fan base, but it's still very much a British show and it is not generally tailored to the sensibilities of mainstream American audiences. My comment was meant more on a conceptual level. It's unique. It's bold. It's different. NO ONE does what Doctor Who does.

 

But even from a popularity standpoint, the Internet only has so much pull. This show is on channels that many households still don't get, much less watch. There are large segments of the population where it can be hard to find any Whovians.

And yet they tend to be the most closed-minded people I've seen. I hope that's just me.

 

I haven't even mentioned that a lot of these Whovians also love/are obsessed over a show called "Veggie Tales" (when I say "obsessed", I mean "they have songs from the show on their iPod" obsessed. Even I don't do that). I one day asked why people saw me as weird for liking MLP, and someone told me it's "because I'm so obsessed over it."

 

Okay, bullcrap on two accounts:

 

1) I hardly ever bring it up (for fairly obvious reasons).

 

2) These people hate someone obsessing over a kids show then praise Veggie Tales and put it on a pedestal right next to Doctor Who? What's the word I'm looking for...oh yeah, hypocrites.
