Sir.Flutter Hooves 2,953 March 29, 2013 Share March 29, 2013 (edited) Hello and bro hoof /) First off, I payed for all my famous songs. The Beatles, Skrillex, etc, but I never paid for one brony song. And I feel guilty. I once copy and pasted the url of a brony song that needed money to get to youtube mp3, just once, and that brings me up to my question. Is that pirating? I feel sorta guilty about it for some reason, but I pay for all my other songs. And if so should i feel guilty and delete it? What do you guys do? Do you always pay or do you pirate your songs? /) Edited March 29, 2013 by Sir.Derpington Hooves This fantastic signature is made my by awesome friend Rainbow Skywalker! bladereaper07 42 March 29, 2013 Share March 29, 2013 Well, if you feel guilty about it--then you should just do what you have to do to make the feeling go away. It's each to their own I suppose... "Kiss my Flank"
hawkflame 3,310 March 29, 2013 Share March 29, 2013 I think technically it is, but I'm no legal expert so don't take my word for it. As for what to do? Do whatever you're comfortable with. If you're fine with things as they are, then keep it that way. If you're not, then delete it or contact the artist regarding payment. I suppose if you're bothered enough to post about this, then it may be worth it just to delete the song. Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite! And also ask if they have ever pirated songs or pay for them. Thanks for the advice. This fantastic signature is made my by awesome friend Rainbow Skywalker! Goose 181 March 29, 2013 Share March 29, 2013 If they're not expecting money or some other form of payment, I wouldn't worry about it. If their song is for sale on iTunes, however...
Zygen 6,066 March 29, 2013 Share March 29, 2013 Well idk I mean I guess technically it would be pirating, but if they're not expecting money its not. If you feel guilty about It I guess the only thing you can do is pay for it and or delete it. I personally avoid pirating things as much as possible, i don't like to do it at all really. Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! My Oc's, Ponysona, Bella Vocal Covers Blog, MLP Covers Thread

Thanks for the advice. Well as far as me personally, I technically have, but those songs were either A) in the days before a legal digital alternative (think WAAAAAY back when, in the prehistoric era of Napster) or B ) not even being sold in the US to begin with, like anime songs. If I were in your shoes, what would I do? I would probably contact the artist if I liked the song enough. Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite! Mand'alor Dash 2,224 March 29, 2013 Share March 29, 2013 Remind me to buck you for using Skrillex in the same sentence as The Beatles. OT: It's only piracy if: 1. The artist expects a payment of some kind for their work. On YouTube, this could be as simple as watching an ad. and 2. No such payment is given. Again, watching an ad counts as paying. So, check to see if any of the songs you like have ads on their page. If they do, then be sure to use the Youtube link whenever you want to hear the song. Alternatively, some artists accept monetary donations, so there's another option if you're feeling guilty. Amoral cynic with a bitchin' vocabulary. Check out A Century of Song if you like music from before this millennium. Sig by ~Cider Barrel~ (design), Skaren (left vector), and ~Rhodarein (right vector). Sir.Flutter Hooves 2,953 March 29, 2013 Author Share March 29, 2013 Remind me to buck you for using Skrillex in the same sentence as The Beatles. To each it's own. I personally love The Beatles more, but I understand what you are getting at. Last year I would have had the exact same reaction. Equity 61 March 29, 2013 Share March 29, 2013 Brony music is hardly commercialized, so you're fine. It's more about exposure for those guys anyway, but certainly a dollar here and there helps. Maybe buy the song at a later time when you can, just to make up for it - I do that all the time when I feel indebited towards someone who makes really kickass music I buy most of my stuff, but not all of it. I'd say a good 90% is purchased from iTunes/Bandcamp/whatever. _____// twitter | blog | youtube \\_____ <3 ~" ." ~ <
